CM Studio Paris’ Co-Founder Jonh Coury Gives Exclusive Interview – Unravelling Magical Interiors

Design Limited Edition had the opportunity and the privilege to talk with the amazing and talented Jonh Coury, the co-founder of CM Studio Paris. Together with Florent Maillard, the interior designers give life to timeless interiors, with a taste of French elegance. We had a chance to discover all the details behind his outstanding work, are you ready to find out?

When asked about the studio’s main mission, CM Studio Paris‘s co-founder shared that the goal is “to magnify the life of their customers by designing for them timeless and magical interiors. We want them to feel comfortable in refined environments that will remain perennially fashionable.”

Currently working on new and exciting projects, in France, the UK, Croatia, Serbia, and so on, Jonh Coury believes in the importance of social networks, rising in recent years, as a way to promote their work, and to keep a relationship with their audience, that goes behind continents, until Brazil!

We believe that people are getting really bored with minimalism and that there is a real new interest for “twisted classicism”! “Nothing is more modern than antiquity” used to say Karl Lagerfeld.

French elegance and refinement are probably the aspects that best characterize CM Studio Paris, and what their clients feel more attracted by. “Most of our customers this year are Foreign customers for whom we are renovating apartments in Paris but also big properties in the French countryside and abroad”.

When it comes to the importance of craftsmanship, and its quality, Jonh Coury believes it gives them a competitive advantage, explaining why foreign customers are starting to approach CM Studio Paris to realize projects outside of France.

The wonder duo keeps standing out with the most ostentatious and bespoke settings in the interior design world. According to the interior designer, in terms of upcoming design trends, maximalism is the way to go. “We believe that Light, shining metals, natural materials, round shaped furniture, and maximalism will be more and more attractive in the years to come. And CM Studio Paris has a role in promoting those trends to a brand new category of customers.”

Located in the city of Design, London, Rafael De Cárdenas elevated the contemporary design to the next level with Glebe Place Residence, by mixing novel styles, gathering together such dissimilar traditional Portuguese pieces and modern design. Still, the distinguished and top interior designer guarantees the most harmonious environments with this ambitious interior project design. Glebe Place Residence by Rafael De Cárdenas is way more than a platform of design, it has its own personality keeping most of the original details intact.

Featuring modern furniture and fine craftsmanship pieces, the astonishing six-bedroom residence was renovated to evoke timeless luxury, balancing contemporary classics with the home’s historic character. A restrained palette of Portland limestone, hardwood, and natural materials is punctuated by vibrant accents of turquoise, fuchsia, brass, and deep purple furnishings from modern European and American designers.

Rafael De Cárdenas recreated several different rooms, each one with its own classic touch. One of the three contemporary dining rooms has a special Portuguese reference completing the whole ambiance with the perfect piece of art, D. Manuel I Cabinet from Boca do Lobo’s Limited-Edition Collection.

Designed by Rafael De Cárdenas, the modern dining room is filled with luxury furniture pieces: a gigantic cream marble contemporary dining table and large upholstery modern chairs which gives the possibility to the room, to be more than a dining space. It can perfectly be a place to have an informal meeting with the closest professionals or business partners. The blossom rose wallpaper gives life to the walls and colour to the room delighted with classic hue and textures like beige, old greys, and dark woods.

Right beside the entrance door, D. Manuel Cabinet was chosen strategically by Rafael De Cárdenas to expand the space and cut the contemporary design of the rest of the pieces. The cabinet surface has a copper leaf finish, with a sophisticated black lacquer gradient applied on the outside. Its legs are made from solid mahogany and are crafted to a traditional and handmade form, finished in high gloss black lacquer.

Manueline Style was an inspiration for Rafael De Cárdenas due to the sumptuous and composite Portuguese style of architectural ornamentation, incorporating maritime elements and representations of the discoveries brought from the voyages of Vasco da Gama and Pedro Álvares Cabral, two of the most renamed discoverers in Portugal history.

The Mirror Houses designed by architect Peter Pichler

The Mirror Houses are a pair of holiday homes for 2 to 4 guests each, set in the marvellous surroundings of the South Tyrolean Dolomites, amidst a beautiful scenery of appletrees, just outside the city of Bolzano. They were designed by architect Peter Pichler. The Mirror houses offer a unique chance to spend a beautiful vacation surrounded by contemporary architecture of the highest standards and the most astonishing Landscape and beauty nature has to offer.

Guests have their autonomous apartment and can fully enjoy the experience of living in the middle of nature with a maximum degree of privacy. The houses are oriented towards east with their private garden and access and parking. Each unit contains a kitchen / living room as well as a bath- and bedroom with big skylights that open to allow natural light and ventilation.

The living room couch can be made into a bed for a maximum occupancy of 4 people per house. A baby cot and high chair can be provided too. A lot of thought went into the sheets, beds, and décor. There are windows directly above the bed so you almost feel as if you’re sleeping outside, as one with nature. It’s very quiet, even though the location is close to the highway and industrial zone.

In the summer the guests have additionally access to the shared garden and swimming pool area and the self service pool bar with with a fridge filled with goodies.

Antony Gibbon Designs – TWINE: SERIES ONE

In a continued formal exploration of sculptural and anomalous spaces, antony gibbon envisions ‘twine,’ a monumental project characterized by twisting spans of concrete. the architectural designer makes use of a pair of undulating surfaces which rhythmically peel up from the ground to generate interstitial interior space.

these two conditioned zones are envisioned as residential pockets, programmed with both a sleeping space and a kitchen lounge. between these interior zones of the imagined residence is a sunken exterior seating area, partially enclosed by the sweeping overhead structure.

with his latest project entitled ‘twine,’ architectural designer antony gibbon continues to investigate a sculptural concrete form-finding strategy which can be seen in his mobius house. the geometry mimics the language of a natural shell structure while simultaneously suggesting an almost organic softness and sense of fluid motion. the surface introduces a rhythmic series of unfolding frames which cinematically reveal and echo the profile of the distant hills.

toward the conditioned spaces, the implied boundary of each interior is formalized with a delicate, nearly imperceptible wall of glass which serves to preserve the distinctive rolling profile of the architecture.

while antony gibbon’s ‘twine’ suggests the introduction of a new topography with its organic surfaces, the project intentionally exhibits a physical disconnect from the landscape. through envisioning the context on which the sculptural structure is situated, gibbon generates a vast conditioned ground plane which is finished in stone tiling and extends outward to the distant hills. this suggests an ‘aesthetic distancing’ of nature, in which the natural surroundings do not engage with the architecture but are left to be framed and admired.
