‘This is for you, world’ – the marketing campaign for the EQS

Concept and objectives

‚This is for you, world‘ – die Marketingkampagne zum EQS // ‘This is for you, world’ – the marketing campaign for the EQS

  • The EQS is the first model in the Mercedes-EQ family to be based on the modular architecture for luxury and executive-class electric vehicles. It marks an important milestone in Ambition 2039 – the path to the CO2-neutral mobility of the future at Mercedes-Benz.

‚This is for you, world‘ – die Marketingkampagne zum EQS // ‘This is for you, world’ – the marketing campaign for the EQS

  • For the first time, a marketing campaign starts at the same time as a world premiere – in a uniform look. The campaign translates the EQS’s seemingly magical fusion of technology, design, functionality and connectivity into a surreal look that challenges the reality we know. The campaign breaks with conventions and works with a mix of abstract art and fashion that stimulates visually.

“We are particularly pleased to launch an integrated marketing campaign for the first time synchronized at the world premiere of the EQS,” says Bettina Fetzer, Head of Marketing Mercedes-Benz AG. “With this extraordinary staging, we want to combine sustainable mobility with an emotional and luxurious brand experience and further strengthen the fascination for our electric Mercedes-EQ models.”

An exceptional 242-carat diamond offered on sale at ALROSA Jubilee Auction #100 in Dubai

February 26, 2021 – ALROSA, in honor of the 100th auction of large diamonds, is putting up for auction one of the largest gem-quality crystals mined by the group since 2000. The last time a lot of such significance was put up for open sale was five years ago.

The Jubilee Auction #100 will take place on March 22, 2021. The flagship of the range is a 242.31-carat gem-quality crystal with dimensions of 21.7×31.3×41.9 mm. Viewings to be held at the ALROSA sales office in Dubai from 14th to 21th March.

Evgeny Agureev, ALROSA Head of Sales: “Rough diamonds, which potentially allow for cutting a diamond larger than 100 carats, are extremely rare in nature. Even less often such gems are traded: according to the law, all rough diamonds larger than 50 carats mined in Russia undergo a state examination for redemption to the state fund. Even when it is possible to put them on sale on the market, we prefer to cut and polish the diamond in-house before. Thus, today we are especially pleased to present this exceptional lot as part of our 100th international auction”

Dubai viewings will also feature two outstanding diamonds 190.74 and 136.21 carats each and a range of notable diamonds over 10.8 carats.

Under the current legislation, ALROSA sells special-size (over 10.8 carats) rough diamonds at auctions only. The first auction of such kind was held by the United Selling Organization of ALROSA in Moscow in 2003.

Take a Virtual Tour of Tate Modern’s Andy Warhol Exhibition

The show ran for just five days before the London museum closed due to COVID-19

Andy Warhol was the son of immigrants who became an American icon. A shy gay man who became the hub of New York’s social scene. An artist who embraced consumerism, celebrity and counter culture – and changed modern art in the process.

Take a Virtual Tour of Tate Modern’s Andy Warhol Exhibition

While you can’t go see pieces like SkullElvis I and II, and Marilyn Diptych in person

He was born in 1928 as Andrew Warhola to working-class parents from present day Slovakia. In 1949 he moved from Pittsburgh to New York. Initially working as a commercial illustrator, his skill at transforming the imagery of American culture soon found its realisation in his ground-breaking pop art.

This major retrospective is the first Warhol exhibition at Tate Modern for almost 20 years. As well as his iconic pop images of Marilyn Monroe, Coca-Cola and Campbell’s soup cans, it includes works never seen before in the UK. Twenty-five works from his Ladies and Gentlemen series – portraits of black and Latinx drag queens and trans women – are shown for the first time in 30 years. Visitors can also see his floating Silver Clouds and experience the psychedelic multimedia environment of the Exploding Plastic Inevitable.

Popularly radical and radically popular, Warhol was an artist who reimagined what art could be in an age of immense social, political and technological change.

In a celebration of fine craftsmanship and traditional Japanese artistry, Lexus has commissioned the world’s first tattooed car. This strictly one-of-a-kind interpretation of the UX compact SUV has been designed and created by leading London tattoo artist Claudia De Sabe.

LEXUS UNVEILS THE WORLD’S FIRST TATTOOED CAR

Lexus – The World’s First Tattooed Car Revealed

Using a pure white car as her “canvas” and a Dremel drill tool in place of a fine tattooing needle, Claudia produced a sweeping design featuring koi carp along the entire length of the vehicle. The koi is a motif familiar from traditional Japanese art, representing qualities of good fortune and perseverance.

Lexus has created a short film which goes behind the scenes to reveal how the tattooed car was made. It can be viewed here:

Claudia used the Dremel tool to drill away the surface paint and expose the metal underneath to create the complex pattern, and then applied five litres of high-quality car paint by hand to bring out the details. As a finishing touch, she used gold leaf to create highlights and give the design a stronger 3D effect, before the whole vehicle was given a protective lacquer coating so that it can be driven on the road.

LEXUS UNVEILS THE WORLD’S FIRST TATTOOED CAR

The process took six months to complete from the initial drawings, with the “tattooing” accomplished over five eight-hour days of intensive work. It was physically demanding, with the vibration of the drill and working with an object that, unlike a human customer, couldn’t be moved into a comfortable position as the design progressed. Where any small slips in a human tattoo can quite easily be worked or coloured into the pattern, the “engraving” with the drill required absolute precision.

08-lexus-tattoo-claudiaportrait

The tattooed UX doesn’t have a price tag, but it’s estimated the bespoke work would cost upwards of £120,000.

It was the first time Claudia had applied her skills to metal rather than human skin and she found both similarities and new challenges in the unique commission.

“When you tattoo a person, you have to think about the muscles and tissue beneath the skin. With the car it was about the way the bodywork changes shape over the framework,” said Claudia, who was assisted in her work by her Japanese-born husband Yutaro.

“‘The best thing about tattooing the Lexus UX, and the reason why this car was ideal for the project, is its streamlined shape. Everything from the lines on the side of the body to the shape of the windows, everything is just so dynamic and beautiful. It was a perfect fit for the design and the concept itself,” said Claudia, a co-founder of the Red Point tattoo studio in Islington.

The project stands as a tribute to the takumi craftsmanship that is applied to every Lexus, witnessed in design details and flawless finishes achieved with human skills perfected through years of dedicated training. Similarly, Lexus embraces traditional Japanese aesthetics in its vehicle designs, in elements such as the UX’s washi paper-grain cabin trims and the seamless merging of the interior and exterior through the front screen, echoing the engawa architectural features of Japanese homes.

After having been launched by CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati on April 16, 2018, within Milan’s Salone del Mobile, Scribit – the intelligent ‘writing robot’ that allows you to draw images and text on any wall surface, is now in production and ready to liven up the homes of its users with wall art.

INTRO

What if you could instantly turn your office or living room wall into a canvas for digital content, and update it in real time? Scribit, the intelligent writing robot that ushers in a new way of presenting digital content, makes it possible that you instantly reconfigure and personalize a wall – any vertical surface could be turned into a low refresh screen displaying information from the web, user-generated content and art.

Created by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) professor Carlo Ratti, Scribit was unveiled in Milan, Italy on 16 April 2018, during Salone del Mobile – the world’s leading design event. A subsequent campaign on Kickstarter singled out Scribit as one of the best 150 crowdfunding campaigns ever, followed by an equally successful appearance on Indiego, with both campaigns totalizing over USD 2.4 million in crowdfunding. Scribit bears the Red Dot award stamp of quality, having won one of the prizes in the Product Design category.

Currently, the drawing robot is in mass production, with the first 1000 units sent to the early backers of the project.

SCRIBIT: MISSION

The draw&erase robot by Scribit is conceived and designed as a creativity empowering tool. It challenges the paradigm of art as a steady product and transcends the space of the gallery, bringing visual art into your home, office, etc., right on your very wall. Scribit is intended to converse with the means of the art form, provoke creative meditation and spur one’s imaginativeness and creativity. The team at Scribit is dedicated to the concept of bringing art to people, in their everyday life.

HOW SCRIBIT WORKS
With its in-built engines, Scribit can be installed in less than 5 minutes: all that is needed is Wi-Fi, two nails and a power plug. Furthermore, thanks to a special patented technology, Scribit can safely draw, cancel and re-draw new content an infinite number of times, allowing you to print a different image on your wall every day or even every few minutes. Scribit can travel on every kind of vertical surface, from whiteboards to glass or plaster. Thus, any vertical plane can be transformed into a screen – a wonder wall where images, messages, or feeds are projected.

Scribit is always connected to the web, allowing you to download, upload or source any content from the Internet. A restaurant can post the day’s menu on its wall, a financial firm can post stock market updates in its lobby, or someone who loves art can project a Van Gogh’s — or their own drawings – onto their bedroom wall. The interactive software of the robot provides a direct access to Scribit’s creative ecosystem. Once the user sends their digital information to the device, or selects an image from the gallery, the plotter starts reproducing it.

“We are totally deluged with information, and spend too much of our non-sleeping time in front of one form or another of digital screen – TV, desktop computer, laptop, tablet or phone. Do we really want to add more screens to our lives?” says Carlo Ratti, a founding partner of CRA and director of the MIT Senseable City Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT): “Scribit offers up an alternative: a robotic system that draws on any kind of vertical surface, following a primordial act performed by humanity since our first cave graffiti.”

Scribit works on a two-axis plane, moving up and down two very discrete wires hanging off a vertical wall. It can place itself at any point with great precision and uses markers to reproduce content. Circular in shape, Scribit is 20cm x 9.5cm in dimension and covered in magnesium, with four markers of different colors at its very center.

THE APP ECOSYSTEM
Scribit offers users access to a broad range of digital content structured around mini Apps. In this global marketplace — people, businesses or institutions, from artists to museums, to media organizations – can develop and upload any type of content and interact. Imagine if you could reconfigure your walls every day. You might draw on masterpieces from the best museums of New York, Paris or Tokyo, or discover the latest works by emerging artists. You can receive updates or news about your favorite topics, or other practical information such as weather forecasts or grocery lists, without having to look at your mobile phone. Alternatively, you could share more personal content, for instance by delivering a surprise message on your friend’s wall for his or her birthday.

Scribit, which means “s/he writes” in Latin, is a result from a long line of predecessor prototypes of writing machines, developed in CRA’s practice. This includes the installation OSARCH at the 2011 Istanbul Design Biennale, the façade of the Future Food District at Milan’s World Expo 2015 (selected by Guiness World Records as the largest image ever plotted) – and, more recently, UFO-Urban Flying Opera, a project in which a fleet of painting drones are being exploited to draw a collectively-sourced image. All these projects can be seen as interpretations of the idea of “tangible bits” developed by MIT Professor Hiroshi Ishii: they bring together the best of both the digital and the physical worlds.
