But even if cdmon did not come to life until 2002, the idea started brewing in 1996, when Jaume R. Palau, cofounder, and current CEO of the company, remembers the emotion of adventure, of things to discover, being fascinated by the first years of Internet.

How did cdmon start?

When the company was founded, we had so many ideas on the table. By itself, starting the business was only just a way of redirecting the creative energy of the persons that created it. In 2002, a part of our activity created websites and was called 10dence (a play on words with the word tendency) and another for hardware news called Hispahard. We also hosted our own development in our servers, so we had prior experience. What we then discovered was that there were too many competitors creating websites, so we saw an opportunity of turning our competitors into our customers.

A few months later, we released cdmon.com, our bet to create a service to offer Internet presence. In the beginning, our mission was to make technology transparent for the user, so they could create content and develop their project. From there, we incorporated web hosting services and domain registration while we developed our own control pane

What is cdmon’s mission on the web hosting and domain industry?

Nowadays, our mission is to create an open and quality Internet where everyone can take part.

An open Internet means offering interoperability to our customers, avoid vendor lock-in or any other kind of practices that make our customers become prisoners to our service. It also means offering a flexible platform.

 A quality Internet means offering a service amongst the best in the market, which becomes a challenge due to the complexity of this sector and the job market.

Lastly, where everyone can take part, refers to our Corporate Social Responsibility, which is to help all entrepreneurs.

What values represent you that you have instilled in your company?

I think that one of these values has been honesty. The basis for starting a business that lasts over time is the ability to creating lasting relationships, and the foundation to creating a lasting relationship is trust. Without honesty, there’s no trust. And it shows, when a customer has been with an honest company and then changes to a dishonest one, the customers knows that something is missing and most of the time it ends up coming back.

Another value is thankfulness. Internet has given us a lot, and so has the Open Source community, since all our services are built upon open code. We have reflected this by knowing how to give back free services to society in the form of our Corporate Social Responsibility.

Nonetheless, I would like to add that the most important thing are not the values that represent myself but the values the company needs to execute its strategy and reach its goals. I think that this point is crucial to execute a strategy full force, become aware of which conducts strengthen the plan to follow, work them at an organizational level and develop them together with the other members.

What market expansion prevision do you have in mind?

The current economic situation is uncertain and complicated. The idea is to always go on and keep growing, we need to open to new markets. We have some products that are competitive at an international level, and it is only a matter of making our brand known. I think cdmon has a lot to say on the global market, always with the greatest humility, since we are aware that we are competing against true Internet giants. But this does not dishearten nor discourage us since ours is a healthy ambition, thinking of it more as a challenge than a necessity.

How did the customers’ demand change versus when you started the project?

The market has really evolved. In 2002 there were no smartphones, nor tablets nor the Cloud. Programming languages were simpler, very few were well-known and lots more were yet to be developed.

The need for security wasn’t the same: the Internet was a place for leisure, not business, so cybercriminals were not looking to make a profit and were simply Internet thugs.

Social media and website builders did not exist yet or offered substitutes. Competence wasn’t as high since this market was still at a very early stage. Technology’s evolution was changed the customer’s habits and how they consume this product.

Which are the main threats the company is facing?

Reading the previous answer, lots of threats start emerging. Our sector is affected by everything related to data security.

On the other hand, this sector is still largely unregulated and very atomized. It surprises me that the European legislation still hasn’t taken action and set the industry standards for those that want to offer hosting web services, since information is a key asset.

The electronic components and IT labor shortages are two of the main brakes for the growth of tech companies. For example, there are months long waitlist to buy certain material. And regarding the job market, salaries are increasing due to the talent shortage.

What makes us better and different to our competitors?

Lost of technological companies see themselves as the “engine” that help strengthen an activity. In our case, we see ourselves more as a heart than an engine. We are a technological company that has emotions, and we worry about customer’s satisfaction. For us, a customer is someone the company has a relationship with. Relationships are like trees, if you take care of them, they yield results. Others see the relationship with customers as a lemon to squeeze, and then it’s time to move on. This aspect, I think, makes us different because it brings warmth to our service, it gives it soul and its own identity, and when the customer tries other services, they think: looks the same, smells the same, but it definitely is not the same.

How do you remain at the forefront after 20 years?

There are two aspects I think important. The first is to chase a vision that inspires you and work on something that makes sense to oneself. If your work makes sense, you feel in balance. The second aspect that is important is to keep your word. I think integrity is one of the key elements for great leadership and to create an atmosphere of trust with your associates, workers, and collaborators. This does not mean that it is infallible, what I mean is that it is important to be aware of it and make every effort to follow it.

You have reached more than 20 years heading up a company leader in its sector, how far do you want to go? How do you see yourself in 10 years’ time?

As I said before, I think that to pursue a vision is very important to know where you want to go. Ambition is one thing, but you need to know the chances of achieving or reaching it. Lately I’ve been reflecting about the process we are currently living as a society, since the raw material shortage and the climate change will push us all to a very different scenario to the one we want to project. Let me be cautious and reserved about sharing my personal vision.

What qualities does a CEO need to have today?

We live turbulent and uncertain times. I think that people that can’t coexist with uncertainty will have it pretty rough as a CEO.

On the other hand, we find ourselves in a time when short-termism prevails over long-term vision. This is the way, at least from my point of view, a CEO should be a strategist and work long-term and be a good communicator to be able to explain to all interested parties why this long-term vision is important.

A CEO has to be able to trust and also be distrustful: to trust and delegate, to distrust and control.

A CEO must know how to listen, has to know how to create good relationships with its collaborators, needs to have a flexible mind, has to be neutral as to its personal, political, religious, and other interests, must know when to talk and when to stay silent.

A CEO also has to look out after the company and the return on investment: pamper the profit and loss account.

What do you do to inspire by example?

I try to do what I say and not be a hypocrite.

These last few months a lot has been said about security and cyberattacks, what advice can you give?

Cyberattacks have increased because it has become a very lucrative activity. Due to the increase of cryptocurrencies, new channels have been opened for cybercriminals to earn real money: ransomware, confidential data theft, etc.

A way of stopping these attacks would be for them to become so expensive that cybercriminals can’t make any money out of it.

How much did the information theft to a very important semiconductor manifacturing company cost them? The cybercriminals asked for hundreds of millions of dollars to not make the stolen data public. I think this may give a hint to how much a company must invest in securing their information. How much does your confidential data cost on the market? How much should a cybercriminal invest to get it?

Any last advice?

Only for them to enjoy life and live the moment. Today you’re at the top and tomorrow everything can take a turn for the worse. Or on the contrary, you can be at a bad point in time and tomorrow have the lucky break you needed. And in the end, whatever it is, good or bad, ends up happening. Because if there is something I have learned, is that everything happens

1. Nos gustaría conocer la trayectoria profesional y creativa tuya y de tu empresa Verdin Property

Comencé Verdin Property en 2016, junto con mi socio comercial Dean Williams. Inicialmente, estábamos involucrados en la venta de propiedades de menor valor (menos de 500,000 €), sin embargo, a partir de 2019, nos enfocamos en el mercado de lujo de alta gama.

A lo largo de los años, nuestra reputación y marca se han vuelto cada vez más conocidas y respetadas en el área de Marbella, lo que nos ha llevado a convertirnos en uno de los principales agentes que operan en el sector del lujo.

Nuestro equipo es pequeño, somos los dos fundadores y contamos con personal de apoyo, sin embargo, nos enfocamos mucho en brindar un servicio de calidad a un número relativamente pequeño de clientes, la mayoría de los cuales son clientes habituales.

2. ¿Qué le apasiona de su trabajo como empresario y cuál es el enfoque que pretende exhibir de sus villas / promociones, haciendo de ellas un reclamo en cuando la forma de tratar la propiedad “como signo diferenciador al recto de empresas de su sector”?

Nuestro enfoque es en gran medida en proporcionar el más alto nivel de servicio. Nos tomamos muy en serio la calidad del contenido que publicamos en línea bajo nuestra marca. Por ejemplo, tenemos un stock de aproximadamente 25 propiedades bajo mandato directo (al momento de escribir este artículo), todas las cuales están a la venta con fotos y videos de alta resolución, todos editados profesionalmente. También proporcionamos a nuestros clientes planos de planta y recorridos virtuales para que los compradores puedan sentirse seguros en su elección de propiedad incluso sin verla físicamente. Nuestras estrategias de marketing han cambiado muchas veces en los últimos 7 años, sin embargo, ahora estamos en una etapa en la que somos bien conocidos tanto por los propietarios como por las agencias por la forma en que trabajamos.

3. ¿Cómo puedes equilibrar las necesidades del mercado y el diseño único de la marca?

Nuestra marca se ha centrado durante muchos años en el mercado de lujo de gama alta. Los próximos años verán un fuerte enfoque puesto en nuestra expansión continua en el mundo digital, además de nuestra nueva división de gestión de proyectos que, junto con nuestros socios, tendrá como objetivo ayudar a los compradores de propiedades individuales sobre plano a completar sus proyectos sin problemas.

6. ¿Qué estilo le define como marca y empresario?

Estamos muy centrados en la colaboración. Como una empresa más pequeña que no contaba con los recursos iniciales y las conexiones de una marca corporativa global, confiamos en crear contenido de buena calidad para compartir con nuestras agencias colaboradoras. A lo largo de los años hemos seguido colaborando con el mayor número de empresas posible, con excelentes resultados para nosotros.

7. ¿Cómo se enfrenta a situaciones de estrés?

La vida está llena de situaciones estresantes y los bienes raíces ciertamente no son diferentes. Tengo la suerte de tener una excelente pareja y dos perros que son la combinación perfecta para aliviar el estrés.

8. ¿Cuáles serán los nuevos roles de la arquitectura y trasformación, en la próxima década?

Hemos notado en los últimos 18 meses/2 años que ha habido un gran enfoque en las ‘casas verdes’. Eficiencia energética, carbono cero y ‘passivhaus’ son frases comunes que escuchamos, no solo de los desarrolladores, sino también de los compradores que buscan reducir los costos de funcionamiento de las casas de vacaciones y también su huella de carbono.

Otra tendencia común que estamos notando es el regreso a las propiedades de estilo mediterráneo. Durante los últimos años, se ha buscado mucho un estilo de propiedad ultramoderno de “caja blanca”, pero ahora estamos viendo techos de tejas, macetas de terracota y muchas otras características mediterráneas tradicionales que vuelven a estar de moda.

9. Describa el proyecto más desafiante en un rol similar. ¿Cuáles fueron algunos desafíos técnicos?

Como agente de bienes raíces profesional con personal calificado y competente, tengo la suerte de no tener demasiadas complicaciones cuando se trata de transacciones de propiedades, sin embargo, uno de los momentos más difíciles fue cuando estaba aprendiendo la mejor manera de hacer el trabajo por mi cuenta. persona, en lugar de depender de colegas más experimentados.

La presión para no cometer errores es constante y en los primeros días de la venta de propiedades como carrera, fue sin duda un desafío recordar toda la terminología y las leyes.

10. ¿Cómo abordaría un sistema heredado?

Hay muchas iteraciones diferentes de la frase ‘sistema heredado’, por lo que sin conocer el concepto detrás de la pregunta, esta es una respuesta complicada. En términos de tecnología antigua, creo que la era digital está realmente aquí, con el Metaverso y las propiedades digitales que se construyen, compran y venden. Si el significado es un sistema que todos quieren arreglar o eliminar, creo que España siempre está un poco atrasada cuando se trata de avances y creo que introducir un sistema de licencias para
agentes inmobiliarios es una buena manera de arreglar la industria. particularmente en la Costa de Sol. Sin embargo, creo que esto no sucederá.

11. Cuéntanos sobre ti. ¿Qué te emociona de la tecnología aplicada a la construcción, paisajismos, nuevos materiales, etc.?

Soy un gran fanático de la automatización, por lo que los sistemas domóticos siempre son algo que busco en las propiedades. ¡La IA nos ahorra tanto tiempo en el transcurso de una semana que podría hacer otro día completo de trabajo! También la implementación de jardines verticales y paredes vivas son muy comunes para nosotros en los hogares modernos y siempre siento que agregan algo especial a una propiedad.

12. Con el trepidante ritmo de trabajo que supone la dirección de Verdin Property. ¿cómo desconectas? ¿Tienes algún secreto para mantenerte en forma, Golf, Polo, Padel, Yoga / Meditación, etc..?

No dispongo de mucho tiempo ya que mostrar propiedades, negociaciones y trámites ocupa mucho tiempo, pero me encanta pasear a mis dos perros o salir a un buen restaurante, tal vez en Puente Romano o en el casco antiguo de Marbella. Afortunadamente se me da muy bien desconectar al final del día.

BENTLEY MOTORS APPOINTS NEW MULLINER AND MOTORSPORT DIRECTOR IN BESPOKE DIVISION REORGANISATION

  • Ansar Ali joins Bentley as Mulliner and Motorsport Director from McLaren Special Operations

(Crewe, 13 January 2023) Bentley Motors today announced the appointment of Ansar Ali as the new Mulliner and Motorsport Director, reporting directly to Adrian Hallmark, Chairman and CEO. Ali will lead the reorganised Mulliner division as customer personalisation reaches record levels of demand.

Ali, who has a 30 year career in the automotive industry, joins from McLaren Special Operations where he was Managing Director. Before this, Ali held senior management roles at Ford, Lotus, Caterham and co-founded Zenos Cars.

Ali’s dual responsibilities at Bentley cover Motorsport activities, working closely with the GT3 race teams currently competing, and a focus on Bentley’s personal commissioning division, Mulliner, the oldest coachbuilder in the world and now with three distinct classifications; Classics, Collections and Coachbuilt.  Commenting on Ali’s appointment, Adrian Hallmark said:

“Mulliner represents the very pinnacle of automotive design and expertise and Ansar joins at a time when we are experiencing record levels of demand across our features, collections, coachbuilt and classics possibilities. Vivian Stauffer is the CEO of Hamilton, an iconic name in precision watchmaking since it was founded in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 1892. Its watches earned their reputation by synchronizing the first railroads and went on to furnish the wrists of soldiers, aviators and Hollywood stars, making over 500 appearances on the big screen. Hamilton has been at the forefront of innovations in design, technology and craft, launching the world’s first electric timepiece in 1957 and first LED digital watch in 1970. A member of the Swatch Group, the global leader in watch manufacturing and distribution, Hamilton combines its American spirit with true Swiss precision.

A Swiss national, Vivian Stauffer obtained his master’s degree in Chemical Engineering at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale of Lausanne. An outdoor enthusiast, he is an experienced pilot and also enjoys free skiing, mountain biking and hiking. He began his career at Swatch, a brand of the Swatch Group, in 2002, where he spent five years as a member of their sport and sales team.

In 2007, he joined Hamilton as Regional & Travel Retail Sales Manager and acted as Brand Manager of Switzerland between 2010 and 2013. Also appointed as Head of Sales in 2011, he developed and implemented the international sales and distribution strategy for 24 subsidiaries and 40 distributors around the world. He opened the first Hamilton boutiques in Japan and Switzerland and spearheaded Hamilton’s growth in China as interim brand manager for a year and a half.

Hamilton CEO since 2020, he oversees the brand’s global strategy and development in over 75 countries.

BREGUET ANNOUNCES THE APPOINTMENT OF ITS NEW CEO

Breguet and its President Marc A. Hayek are delighted to announce the appointment of Lionel a Marca as its CEO.
Lionel a Marca joined the Swatch Group almost 30 years ago and has been working at the Maison since 2019. His commitment and impressive skills across all areas of watchmaking saw him appointed to the Executive Boards of Blancpain in 2004 and Harry Winston in 2014.
In 2019, he also joined the Extended Executive Board of the Swatch Group.
Now, Mr a Marca is placing all of his fine horology passion and experience at the service of Breguet. He will be taking over the operational management under the presidency of Marc A. Hayek, with whom he has worked closely for over 20 years. As Marc A. Hayek noted, “The appointment of Lionel a Marca, a watchmaker in the purest sense of the word at a Maison of Breguet’s prestige, marks a new chapter in its history. I know that he will put all of his energy into continuing the work started by my grandfather since the takeover in 1999, while also keeping the pioneering spirit of its founder alive.”

After two years of being behind the scenes, the CEO and Head Designer of Boca do Lobo speaks now about the history, the present and the future of the most passionate Portuguese Design Brand.

1. DESCRIBE YOUR EXPERIENCE AS CEO OF THE BEST PORTUGUESE DESIGN COMPANY. WHAT KEEPS YOU MOTIVATED AND WHAT IS YOUR MAIN INSPIRATIONS.
It’s a lot of responsibility for someone young like me to be CEO of one of the best design brands in the world, but I also see this as a challenge and at the same time I feel that I have a long path ahead of me that allows me to stimulate doing better every day. At the same time, I fully trust my team, we will always be able to give what is not expected, always trying to do more and better.
My creative freedom rests on everything I see, on what surrounds me. At Boca do Lobo Design Studio we operate within the design world, but we can be true artists in the way we work and think. Everyone says there is a crossover of art and design and I can not agree more. I really like to make new experiences, new materials, new techniques. More than an object to satisfy a need, we want to create pieces or objects of art that are part of people’s lives. People who buy Boca do Lobo are also buying an experience that can inspire generations.

2. BOCA DO LOBO HAS, OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS, GRADUALLY CHANGED ITS LANGUAGE AND CULTURE. WHAT IS YOUR ROLE IN THIS CHANGE?
There were no changes in our culture or language, there was an evolution. Over time we have lost timidity and we realize that if there will a power of fitting on our part, we can easily adapt to spaces and projects. The essence, the charisma, and the boldness are there, but in a more versatile way.

3. THE BET ON CRAFTSMANSHIP AND TRADITIONAL TECHNIQUES IS ONE OF THE BRAND’S CORE VALUES. HOW ARE CRAFTSMANSHIP AND THE BOCA DO LOBO WORLD INTERTWINED?
The Art of Designing and Crafting Exclusive Pieces is the life moto of Boca do Lobo, without that it was just another design brand. The richness of the manual arts finds here a new way of imposing and surviving, using the contemporary style as a base but, at the same time, introducing techniques of Portuguese craftsmanship. The link is in the complementarity that both parties have been able to find in the relationship that unites them: on the one hand we needed a singularity that only craftsmanship can give us and accompany what we want to create, on the other, we help these arts to be reborn … Each piece is unique, the gold leaf does not sit the same way twice.

4. HOW CAN YOU MAINTAIN THE BALANCE BETWEEN THE NEEDS OF THE MARKETPLACE AND THE UNIQUE DESIGN OF THE BRAND?
There began to exist an emotional need regarding the uniqueness of a product at the time of acquisition. Our audience demands an experience with design, with respect to the exclusive world of luxury and art, and therefore our presence in the world, in the main international capitals, is a way to reach more easily those who want to see us, feel and touch in our pieces. We make a difference and stay in the public’s mind because our products have a twist that only we can give.

5. BOCA DO LOBO IS PRESENTED WITH 5 COLLECTIONS. CONSIDERS THAT THERE IS ROOM FOR NEW PRODUCT TYPES ARE CREATED ?
At the moment we have 5 collections, of which, undoubtedly, stands out the Limited Edition, being the standard bearer with the leading bestsellers, such as the Diamond Sideboard or even the unparalleled Pixel Cabinet. However, we must not forget collections that are pillars to the brand as Soho and Coolors and even the Master Bedroom which serves one of the most important areas of the house.
At the same time, is important to mention Private Collection, that serves an extremely high luxury public. Another category that could undoubtedly open new doors to the world of Hotels and of Casinos, is the Play At Home Collection, whose main focus is the gaming tables.


6. THE FILM 50 SHADOWS OF GREY WAS A GREAT MOMENT FOR THE BOCA DO LOBO. THEY FEEL THAT
WAS THIS THE MAIN LANDMARK OF YOUR STORY? HOW DOES THE ASSOCIATION WITH CINEMA ARISE?
I do not believe that it was the main landmark in the history of Boca do Lobo, but it was undoubtedly a great responsibility. It was an important step, brought national and international notoriety, was like a consequence of the recognition we have gained throughout the time, and since that year more doors were opened in the world of cinema and staging.
In fact, what happened was simple: Universal Pictures acknowledged that our pieces was to the height of the most eccentric side of the millionaire Mr. Grey and thought it they would fit like a glove in your apartment. We agree et voilá.

7. THE PRESENCE IN THE DIGITAL WORLD IS ONE OF YOUR MAIN WEAPONS, JUST LOOK AT THE NUMBERS ON THE SOCIAL NETWORKS OF THE BRAND. HOW DID YOU MANAGE TO CREATE THIS EMPIRE?
The secret is to reach out to people to inspire and surprise with the best in the world industry, also divulging our projects and pieces.
We have a passionate and dedicated team, willing to learn and be challenged every day, exploring strategies and actions in order to boost the brand. In fact, we a strong presence in the web world, it is easy to perceive our notoriety through the numerous blogs, social networks and international magazines that publish us.
I believe that the fact that we show our behind the scenes, without fears, also helps because it is part of our essence, our creative side and that makes all the difference.

8. WHAT IS THE REVENUE TO REACH € 10M TARGET IN 2020?
We are in great growth and as our services improve we will create our own path to success … We have highly focused goals and the fact that we are a young team, we can easily be transversal in a world that is constantly changing. The fact that we already have the loyalty of some clients that have been consolidated with the custom and bespoke of our pieces is also a big step, the strategy ‘happy customers’ we assemble will give us bases, year after year to achieve our goals. It is a secret from the Gods, but results.

9. IT FEELS THAT THE POSSIBLE EXPANSION OF THE BRAND TO OTHER BUSINESS AREAS WOULD OVERALL RESULTS?
As for business that could boost Boca do Lobo, we always think how to surprise and innovate and nothing better than an unlikely partner to do something unexpected and have a boom in every corner of the world.
Boca do Lobo is a brand that aims to raise the exclusive design, but we want to have a sustained growth that gives us freedom for when we will decide to risk, we are able to do it. But, at the same time, we have to keep in mind the minimization of errors and impairments.
