Palme-dor-2021

The Palme d’or

Chopard, the Artisan of international film-making’s

most prestigious award

Every year, the Palme d’or, the Holy Grail of the Seventh Art, is awarded to the best film in the competition at the Cannes International Film Festival. The latest feature film to win it, Parasite by Bong Joon Ho, quite simply rewrote the history of cinema, confirming the absolute prestige and power of this trophy. As a longstanding partner to the Festival, Chopard is proud to accompany this annual launch into orbit of an exceptional talent. Since 1998, the Maison has been the Artisan of the Palme d’or and indeed of all the trophies awarded at the Festival’s closing ceremony.

On May 25th 2019, Bong Joon Ho was awarded the Palme d’or by Catherine Deneuve – having been unanimously chosen by a jury chaired by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu – for his film Parasite. Stroking the blue morocco leather case containing the trophy, the overawed and deeply moved South Korean filmmaker admitted: “I was just a timid film buff who decided to become a film director at the age of 12. I never even imagined that I would touch this trophy. And winning the award is more priceless than ever.”

From that magical moment suspended in time, Parasite, a huge hit that reconciled audiences and critics in the same collective euphoria, swept up everything in its path, even conquering Hollywood.

The Palme d’or, a fantastic platform

The phenomenal triumph of Parasite reminded us that being awarded the supreme prize at the Cannes Film Festival offers the most spectacular launch pad for the career of both films and filmmakers in the firmament of the Seventh Art, confirming that the Palme d’or remains the most precious ‘open sesame’ for winning the hearts of the whole world.

After scooping every major award in the world one by one, the film honoured by the Palme d’or ended its wild ride in style by taking home the four most prestigious statuettes at the 2020 Oscars (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best International Film) and by accomplishing two feats at the same time: not only was Parasite the first non-English speaking film to win the Best Picture Oscar, but also the first film to win the Best Picture and Best International Film Oscars together. This is unprecedented in the 92-year history of the American Film Academy! “Since its huge win at Cannes, Parasite has continued to rack up the most prestigious awards and to break records, making it undoubtedly one of the most repeatedly distinguished films in the history of cinema. A historic prize!” enthused Thierry Frémaux, General Delegate of the Cannes Film Festival.

Chopard, partner of the greatest cinematographic adventures

The story began in 1997. During a meeting with Pierre Viot (then President of the Cannes Festival), Caroline Scheufele (Co-President and Artistic Director of Chopard) suggested redesigning the Palme d’or. Symbolically, this keen film lover imagined a heart at the base of the Palme d’or branch presented the following year, giving a new lease on life to the trophy.

Through this thrilling palm, which has symbolised hearts beating in unison for more than 20’ years, a veritable hand-sculpted jewel composed of 19 yellow gold leaves resting on a unique cushion of rock crystal, the Maison Chopard, jeweller of the red carpet and official partner of the Cannes Film Festival since 1998, continues to share its passion for the cinema and its emotions with the entire world.

A shining example of the Maison’s commitment to sustainable luxury, the Palme d’or has been crafted in ethical Fairmined-certified yellow gold since 2014, making it the only ethical trophy in the world of cinema crafted with respect for people and for the environment.

In addition to the Palme d’or for the best film, the Maison’s Haute Joaillerie workshops craft all the trophies – in rock crystal engraved with a palm – awarded to the other winners at the closing ceremony, a traditionally unforgettable evening that opens up the realm of every possibility, as we now know more than ever.

In addition to the Palme d’or, Caroline Scheufele is also behind the Trophée Chopard, awarded each year since 2001 during the Cannes fortnight to an up-and-coming actress and actor, thus helping to shape the future of cinema.

Amanda Seyfried and Nicholas Hoult join the 78th Annual Golden Globe Awards wearing Jaeger-LeCoultre

Friend of the Maison Amanda Seyfried was elegantly wearing a Jaeger-LeCoultre 101 Feuille in pink gold at the 78th Golden Globe Awards. A precious model that combines the watch and jewelry-making expertise of the Manufacture.

“The Jaeger-LeCoultre jewelry watch is effortless because it pairs well with everything and adds a refined and glamorous touch to my whole ensemble.”

Amanda Seyfried
Friend of the Maison Nicholas Hoult selected the Reverso Classic Large Duoface Small Seconds at the 78th Golden Globe Awards.

ABOUT THE 101 FEUILLE

Originally conceived and developed for jewellery watches and introduced in 1929 by La Grande Maison, Calibre 101 revolutionised feminine watchmaking – its minuscule size and baguette shape offering new realms of aesthetic freedom to designers. At 14mm long, less than 5mm wide and weighing barely one gram, the tiny, hand-wound calibre remains the smallest mechanical movement in the world to this day.

The 101 Feuille is adorned with 167 pavé diamonds (10.3 carats), nestled against one another and arranged by hand at the Manufacture’s workshops. On the silvered opaline dial, two discreet Baton hands reflect eternal femininity. And could anything better enhance the union of mechanical perfection and jewellery excellence than pink gold? Sensuous, exquisitely feminine, and timeless, this precious metal is perfectly suited to its new starring role.

ABOUT THE REVERSO

In 1931, Jaeger-LeCoultre launched a timepiece that was destined to become a classic of 20th-century design: the Reverso. Created to withstand the rigours of polo matches, its sleek, Art Deco lines and unique reversible case make it one of the most immediately pitomizele watches of all time. Through nine decades the Reverso has continually reinvented itself without ever compromising its identity: it has housed more than 50 different calibres, while its blank metal flip side has become a canvas for creative expression, decorated with enamel, engravings or gemstones. Today, 90 years after the Reverso was born, it continues to pitomize the spirit of modernity that inspired its creation.

The Craft Irish Whiskey Co. x Fabergé | A Partnership of a Lifetime.

Fabergé | A Partnership of a Lifetime

A partnership with iconic artist-jeweller seven-piece custom-made whiskey set which celebrates the ‘Seven Wonders of Ireland’.

We are so excited to announce that we have partnered with Fabergé to release The Emerald Isle Collection’: a seven-piece, custom-made whiskey collection which celebrates the seven wonders of Ireland. With each of the seven bottles of ultra-rare, 30-year-old, triple distilled Irish whiskey, comes a bespoke Fabergé Celtic Egg with a unique surprise hidden within, and an elegant 18k rose gold bespoke Altruist watch.

This partnership sees the release of an extraordinarily rare whiskey collectible worthy of being the most valuable whiskey of all time. Years in the making, were so proud to partner with Fabergé and to materialise our love of extraordinarily rare whiskey in these seven legacy bottles.

The innovative collaboration forged between The Craft Irish Whiskey Co. and Fabergé fuses together an exceptional and distinctive ultra-rare, single malt with the heritage and mythology from the legendary artist-jewellery.  These two brands share the same vision of creating timeless beauty and a lasting legacy, loyal to heritage while also embracing new methods.

The Emerald Isle Collection, is a uniquely time-defying celebration of the luxury, colour and boldness of an ultra-rare whiskey.

Presented in a dark walnut experience box, each set features two bottles of ultra-rare, 30-year-old, triple distilled Irish whiskey, accompanied by two unique and exclusive creations from Fabergé – the first-of-its-kind Celtic Egg objet and a bespoke Altruist timepiece. Each collection also includes a humidor with two ultra-rare Cohiba Siglo VI Grand Reserva cigars, a gold-plated cigar cutter, gold-plated water pipette, pure obsidian whiskey stones, a hip flask with a sample of the Emerald Isle whiskey – which is the rarest Irish whiskey in existence – and a carafe filled with Irish spring water from the same region as where the whiskey was made.

THE EMERALD ISLE COLLECTION

We are thrilled to announce our partnership with The Craft Irish Whiskey Co., purveyors of the finest Irish whiskey, to release ‘The Emerald Isle Collection’, a seven-piece custom-made whiskey set which celebrates the ‘Seven Wonders of Ireland’. Beautifully presented in a dark walnut experience box, each set features a unique Fabergé Celtic Egg objet and bespoke Altruist watch, along with two bottles of extremely rare, 30-year-old, triple distilled Irish whiskey.

‘The Emerald Isle Collection’ is the oldest triple distilled Irish whiskey in the world and fuses Faberge’s unique heritage with rich Irish tradition and mythology.

Each experience box has been inspired by the shape of an emerald and features an illustration of one of the ‘wonders’ of Ireland and its coordinates, with a frontal egg-shaped aperture and a frame of coloured gemstones. Inside each box is a hand-crafted whiskey bottle which holds the ‘liquid gold’. Each of the bottles has been inspired by key Fabergé design elements, set with responsibly sourced emeralds from Gemfields’ Kagem mine in Zambia on the neck and lowermost part of the bottle.

Accompanying each bottle of whiskey is a bespoke Fabergé Celtic Egg objet, handcrafted by fourth-generation Fabergé enamel workmaster, Dr. Marcus Mohr. Each egg is crafted from 18k yellow gold and features Fabergé’s legendary guilloché enamel in a pastel green; the green, white and gold colours of the egg symbolise the Irish flag.

Each of the seven unique Fabergé eggs is set with a pavé diamond Celtic knot, framing a coloured gemstone at its centre. Each one also features a different gemstone on its exterior: Gemfields Zambian emerald, blue sapphire, Gemfields Mozambican ruby, amethyst, rhodolite, spessartite or tourmaline, representing each of the seven Irish locations. A matching cabochon coloured gemstone is also set on top of the egg, which itself is mounted on a beautiful hand-carved and polished rock crystal plinth with gold base.

In true Fabergé spirit, a surprise awaits inside in the form of a rough, uncut Zambian emerald responsibly sourced from Gemfields and presented on a gold guilloché base with an intricate claw setting. This is the first time in Fabergé’s history that we have featured a surprise of this kind. The enduring legacy of this piece continues, as the owner can later commission Fabergé to convert the rough emerald as part of a bespoke set, or piece of jewellery.

Emeralds are believed to symbolise hope, growth and fresh starts – which befits the current challenging times.

In addition, each edition of ‘The Emerald Isle’ features a bespoke one-of-a-kind Fabergé Altruist 18k rose gold watch with a self-winding movement from Vaucher Manufacture. Each piece has a unique dial, inspired by the landscape of one of the ‘Seven Wonders of Ireland’. Handcrafted by Fabergé’s workmaster André Martinez, a specialist in decorating watch dials, the white mother of pearl face has been skilfully etched and hand-painted with 24k rose gold. The crystal case backs on each piece are dedicated to The Craft Irish Whiskey Co. and feature their logo. The watch is finished with a brown alligator strap, which complements the design perfectly.

Josina von dem Bussche-Kessell, Global Sales and Business Development Director at Fabergé, said: “This is a thrilling partnership for Fabergé, as it sees us continuing our legacy of creating unique and collectable objects, bridging the gap between historic legacy and modern-day heirlooms. Rare whiskey has seen tremendous investor attention, and the whiskey market is undergoing a dynamic evolution. It is very exciting for Fabergé to participate in such a cross-pollination of luxury sectors, thereby adding a dynamic twist on age-old traditions.”

The inaugural launch of these highly limited boxes will take place via a private auction on 2nd February 2021 with 100% of the proceeds going to charity – 50% to the Correa Family Foundation supporting children affected by serious illness, and the remaining 50% to the buyer’s charity of choice.

ROLLS-ROYCE DEBUTS ‘SPIRIT OF ECSTASY’ FABERGÉ EGG

ROLLS-ROYCE DEBUTS ‘SPIRIT OF ECSTASY’ FABERGÉ EGG
