The world’s largest healthcare brands grapple with challenging post-pandemic conditions

Johnson & Johnson world’s most valuable and strongest Pharma brand despite drop in value and strength

Johnson & Johnson maintains its position as the most valuable pharma brand for the fifth consecutive year. This comes despite a 5% brand value decrease. This aligns with a broader industry trend that has harmed many of the largest pharmaceutical brands in 2023. There was an average 2% brand value decline year-on-year across the ranking.

In addition to calculating brand value, Brand Finance also determines the relative strength of brands through a balanced scorecard of metrics evaluating marketing investment, stakeholder equity, and business performance. Compliant with ISO 20671, Brand Finance’s assessment of stakeholder equity incorporates original market research data from over 100,000 respondents in 38 countries and across 31 sectors.

Johnson & Johnson is also the strongest pharma brand, overtaking Pfizer to claim the top spot. However, Johnson & Johnson did drop three-point in its Brand Strength Index (BSI) score, now 82.3 out of 100.

Hugo Hensley, Valuations Director of Brand Finance commented:

“It is no coincidence that amongst widespread falls in brand value across the industry, all the pharma brands that have seen an increase or stable brand strength rating in 2023 have also witnessed an increase in brand value. Businesses with a strong brand are better equipped to handle crises and regulatory challenges, making them more resilient in our increasingly volatile world. Building and maintaining a positive brand reputation is vital for long-term success.”

CSL and Novo Nordisk are the 1st and 2nd fastest growing pharma brands with brand value growth over 30%

CSL is the fastest growing Pharma brand, up 32% to USD1.3 billion. This is primarily due to CSL’s growth in its immunoglobulin portfolio, the acquisition of Vifor Pharma, and the launch of HEMGENIX®.

Novo Nordisk (brand value up 31% to USD3.1 billion) follows CSL as the second fastest growing brand Pharma brand. This growth is tied to the active promotion and the ramping up of its production of weight loss drugs, Wegovy and Ozempic.

GSK leads on Sustainability Perception Score, Johnson & Johnson has highest Sustainability Perceptions Value

As part of its analysis, Brand Finance assesses the role that specific brand attributes play in driving overall brand value. Brand Finance assesses how sustainable specific brands are perceived to be, represented by a ‘Sustainability Perceptions Score’. The value that is linked to sustainability perceptions, the ‘Sustainability Perceptions Value’, is then calculated for each brand.

GSK (brand value down 21% to USD3.5 billion) has the highest Sustainability Perception Score of any brand included in the Pharma 25 2023 ranking – 4.98. Johnson & Johnson has the highest Sustainability Perceptions Value at USD364 billion.

Medtronic is the most valuable Medical Devices brand; Philips is the strongest and Siemens Healthineers is the fastest-growing

Medtronic is the world’s most valuable Medical Devices brand for the 3rd consecutive year.  The brand’s value growth was hampered by supply chain, inflation, and currency issues. In an exciting development, Medtronic announced a strategic collaboration with leading technology company NVIDIA (brand value of USD16.3 billion). This is aimed at accelerating the use of artificial intelligence to support innovation in healthcare.

Siemens Healthineers (brand value up 28% to USD4.2 billion) is 2023’s fastest growing Medical Devices brand. This is caused by a seven-point increase in Brand Strength Index score from 61/100 to 68/100 and AA- rating.

Philips (brand value of USD3.9 billion) is the strongest medical devices brand with a Brand Strength Index score of 73.29 out of 100 and AA rating. Despite having to recall certain products in 2021, its brand’s resilience has allowed a positive recovery.

UnitedHealth Group owns the most valuable, strongest, and fastest growing Healthcare services brands

UnitedHealth Group is the parent company of both the two most valuable Healthcare Services brands – UnitedHealthcare (brand value up 13% to USD37.5 billion) and Optum (brand value up 27% to USD20.1 billion). UnitedHealthcare is also the strongest brand (76.7 out of 100 and AA+ rating), while Optum is the fastest growing brand. UnitedHealthcare also claims the highest brand value in the entire Healthcare 2023 report, which encompasses the Pharma 25 and Medical Devices 25 rankings.

As Bali Eyes Recovery, Four Seasons is Ready to Welcome Back Guests

The concept of both Resorts naturally allows for physical distancing and immersion in nature. The all-villa Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay has 156 pool villas spread across 14 hectares (35 acres) of oceanfront gardens, while Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan has 42 villas and 18 suites immersed in eight hectares (20 acres) of lush riverside wilderness. Each villa is inspired by Bali’s trademark open-air design, set in a private compound with a plunge pool and outdoor living space to complement the contemporary interiors. For families and multigenerational travellers, Jimbaran Bay’s nine Residence Villas are spacious two-storey retreats with up to four bedrooms, 20-metre-long (66 foot) pools and direct access to the five kilometre (three mile) beach. From a new contemporary Balinese spa and open-air dining experiences to private cultural tours and active adventures, the Resorts have gone above and beyond enhanced health and safety protocols to ensure guests can enjoy all that the Island of the Gods has to offer, with the highest levels of comfort and care.

While all staff have undergone intense training on Four Seasons Lead With Care global protocols to continue to deliver the highest standard of service, they have also been working behind-the-scenes on bucket list-worthy experiences.

“Over the last two years, our amazing staff have kept busy and motivated looking at new ways to share the magic of Bali with the world,” says General Manager Uday Rao. “We are excited to welcome back guests from all corners of the globe and promise it will be worth the wait, with upgraded facilities and destination-based experiences that remind us why we love to travel, and why Bali is so special.”

Here’s a glimpse of what’s new and awaiting travellers at Four Seasons Resorts Bali:

Brand New Spa: Seemingly suspended above water and spanning over 2,000 square metres (22,000 square feet), Bali’s wellness destination features 10 all-suite spa rooms where expert therapists deliver immersive, transformative treatments. Drawing on ancient Balinese wisdom and the power of light and sound, crystals and colour, plants and pure water, the Healing Village Spa invites guests to align the body’s energy centres, nurture positivity, build resilience and instill a deep sense of calm. The sensory, vibrational experience is enhanced by the most sophisticated wellness innovations: Bali’s first surround sound spa suite has a heated bed made from crushed crystals for a massage like no other, while the wet treatment room is equipped with a rainbow ecoVichy shower for therapists to perform water, colour, sound and massage therapy all at once. Or guests can enjoy some self-directed pampering at The Longevity Garden, a “secret” courtyard garden for individuals or couples to nourish each other with volcanic mud masks, and enjoy the private steam room, thermal sun lounges for mineral absorption, and invigorating ice bath at sub-10 degrees Celsius to release endorphins and reboot the future. The two-storey facility also houses a spacious gym, yoga studio, Rossano Ferretti Hair Salon and grand slam-quality hard tennis court.

New Wellness Programming: In a first for Asia, a groundbreaking Cancer Care Massage has been launched at both Resorts’ spas, enabling therapists to perform massage at any time during a guest’s cancer journey, to soothe dry or radiation-irritated skin, release scar tissue, provide lymph support and nurture the soul. Meanwhile, The Sacred River Spa has introduced Qigong and Crystal Reiki classes. Resident Wellness Mentor and former Buddhist nun Ibu Fera combines the Japanese art of reiki with crystal singing bowls, mantra chanting, gemstones and aromatherapy, to induce a deep sense of peace and security, and enhance sleep quality.

Chef-Guided Culinary Excursions: Guests can get off-the-beaten-track and into nature with a chef-guided picnic adventure in the Sayan Valley. The experience starts with a trek to a secluded riverside location in the jungle, only accessible to Four Seasons guests, where the Resort’s chef will set up a camp kitchen and cook a Balinese-style picnic in the wilderness.

New Concept at Sundara Restaurant: In one of the biggest transformations in Bali’s vibrant dining scene, Sundara has relaunched its dinner concept with a new high-end barbecue menu. Inspired by the fiery sunsets and iconic beach barbecues of Jimbaran fishing village, every dish has an element of roasting, grilling or smoking, even desserts and cocktails. Using Indonesia’s only Kopa Smoking Oven – an Austrian invention fuelled by coffee wood and renowned for its precision in smoke density and temperature control – the chefs infuse meats, seafood, sweets and plant-based dishes with a perfectly balanced smoky flavour and tenderness, for the ultimate barbecue experience.

Bartender Creations: Telu is the new aromatic herb and cocktail garden at Jimbaran Bay, made from 100 percent upcycled materials as a dedicated space for Head Bartender Sufian Mahmoud to lead Zero Waste bar workshops, and host intimate cocktail parties. Guests pick their favourite herbs and learn sustainable cocktail recipes, and see the ancient practice of claypot-aged arak brought back to life. At Sayan’s Jati Bar, a new menu of barrel-aged cocktails puts a local twist on classic recipes, complementing Jati Bar’s natural teakwood design and open-air setting overlooking the river valley.

On-Site Cultural Activities: Inspired by a Balinese village, the Resort at Jimbaran Bay immerses guests in the sights and sounds of Bali. New activities include a traditional fire blessing and ocean blessing by resort priest Ajik Ngurah, Indonesian martial arts and Sanskrit calligraphy class. These add to the existing program of local artist workshops, Balinese cooking school, yoga, meditation, architecture and garden tours.

Off-Site Activities: Bali is looking more lush and green than ever, and there is no better time to explore its historical sites and diverse landscapes. Nobody knows the island like Four Seasons expert guides, who are leading new off-site activities such as mud wrestling, a cycling tour along the south-west Bukit peninsula, canyoning, chasing waterfalls and more. Let Four Seasons present a whole new side of Bali, in the utmost comfort and care.

InsideTracker Mobile App

Introducing the New InsideTracker Mobile App — Pioneering the Next Generation of Personalized Human Performance

It’s here. It’s arrived—the new InsideTracker mobile app.

After years of spirited debates, thousands of hours of scientific research, and countless iterations of designs, we are very proud to announce the achievement of a significant milestone for InsideTracker – the launch of our new iOS mobile app.

Now, InsideTracker customers can experience a new pinnacle of potential, personalization, and performance from your ultra-personalized nutrition system.

With this first of its kind, customer-exclusive app, you can now integrate real-time physiomarker data from your fitness tracker with your existing blood and DNA biomarker data. This unprecedented combination of Blood + DNA + Fitness Tracking data adds an exponential level of precision and customization to your InsideTracker Action Plan.

Fundamentally, it’s a simple equation with profound results. The more data you put into it, the more impact you get out of it.

Finally, a real-time and complete picture of your health and wellness

When we set about to design this new app from the ground up, we knew we had an ambitious task ahead of us, but one that would successfully realize our company vision. Integrate more and more scientifically proven biometric data inputs to deliver real-time, holistic health & wellness insights.

As a super performer, conscious achiever, and longevity seeker, you are actively looking to not only add more fidelity and deeper insights to your plans but also centralize all the growing and disparate sources of quantified data about your bodies. You wanted to measure more precisely, see more clearly, and act more confidently. In the end, understand the relationship, causation, and correlation between these different data points. You spoke, we listened, and it is here!

Additionally, as we dug deeper, our team of InsideTracker behavioral scientists unearthed more insights to inspire and inform our approach.

Building new habits that stick is a tall order for anyone. You must understand conceptually and intellectually “how” to get it done and be inspired, maintain & sustain, and have a systematic routine if you want to make progress in your health journey. The seeming complexity of orchestrating all these elements to drive desired behavior change can be overwhelming all on your own. And while you may have the goal in mind (e.g., strength, endurance, healthy aging), it can seem out of reach to visualize and realize the steps needed to reach that goal.

But with any challenges or speed bumps that come our way, we see opportunity. So we set about to create an elegant, mobile-first solution that addresses these problems head-on and puts the inherent power of InsideTracker right at your fingertips.

The app was created around a simple idea – provide limitless access to your health and wellness data, helping to keep you on track and build the sound habits you need to reach your health & wellness goals.

A host of brand new features were purpose-designed to provide a clearer & comprehensive picture of your health profile, real-time & immediate feedback, and put more customization & control in your hands.

Fitness tracking integration = more precision and personalization

We know that you, our insatiably curious InsideTracker customers, are measuring more and more data from a growing set of sources such as blood, DNA, and physiological biomarkers.

While all of these tell valuable, in-depth, and nuanced stories about what’s going on inside your body, the truth is they come at different times and frequencies.

Blood reflects what’s going on right now, but it’s just not practical or realistic to test daily. DNA can reveal your body’s potential for certain wellness traits, but your genetic blueprint is stable, unchanging and testing is genuinely only a once in a lifetime occasion. Physiological data, such as resting heart rate and sleep, provide motivating reminders of your daily activity and help monitor regular progress, but don’t effectively translate that data to simple, tangible, and effective “So now what?” actions.

The InsideTracker mobile app’s inherent power is its capability to make the whole truly greater than the sum of these individual parts. The simple act of adding fitness tracking data to your blood and genetic biomarkers unlocks never-before-seen dimensions of your InsideTracker Action Plan. Blood biomarkers now come with genetic and physiological insights. Our trusted, science-backed recommendations to improve your blood biomarkers now show how they will help you physiological markers and how your genetics impact both of them.

Sync your Fitbit to InsideTracker to automatically update your latest data, and you are on your way to seeing inside yourself from an entirely new perspective. A note to “other” fitness tracker fans. Yes, we are launching with Fitbit; however, Garmin and Apple Health integrations are next in line coming in early 2021, and more devices in the queue.

Daily and continuous optimization

At the heart of the new InsideTracker iOS app is the PULSE. This dynamic dashboard home base of the app integrates your daily Action Plan with your existing habits. It helps you visualize and plot your InsideTracker recommendations with easy guidance on how and when to incorporate them throughout your day.

These daily readings also feed into your WELLNESS SCORE, a newly calculated metric exclusive to our app that provides a daily snapshot of your progress towards optimizing your body. As you log actions according to your plan and change key physiological markers, you can track and monitor these changes reflected in your Wellness Score. InsideTracker’s data science team designed this proprietary algorithm to apply relative weight to critical changes and actions. Optimizations in your blood biomarkers will have a relatively more substantial effect on your Wellness Score. In contrast, improvements in physiological markers or daily check-ins on your Action Plan will have a somewhat smaller effect. Be sure to monitor your improvements because even those little changes in your Wellness Score will fuel feelings of reward and positively motivate you towards your goals.

And finally, you’ll get hyper-targeted PROTIPS to keep you on track towards your goals. Delivered daily, these nuggets of wisdom are a single, easy to follow, laser-focused recommendation that will have the most significant impact on improving your performance. Currently, PROTIPS are based on simple physiological recommendations, but soon we will be expanding PROTIPS to include nutrition and blood biomarker-based guidance.

More customization and control

InsideTracker’s behavioral science team was hard at work once again, reimagining the levels of flexibility, customization, and control you have over your InsideTracker Action Plan.

Go ahead and start by picking your goal. With thirteen (13) different goals to choose from, you can select the one you want to focus on, and we’ll help guide you to success. Because your body is dynamic, feel free to change your goal at any time.

New to the mobile app, you can now pick an Action Plan approach that fits your style. Do you want to build healthy habits one small step at a time? Choose the “Focused” approach to steadily zone in on your single highest-impact area. Or do you want to maximize your potential with a multi-step plan and make significant progress ASAP? Then choose “Strive” to fast track your plan by hyper-focusing on the top five highest-impact recommendations.

If it feels like there are too many recommendations, then go ahead and remove some. If you feel the spark to take on a few more, go ahead and add some. We put the power in your hands to design your own personal Action Plan’s pace, style, and robustness.

All of this customization culminates in another new key metric, the IMPACT SCORE. Your Impact Score shows you the strength and effectiveness of each recommendation specifically for you, guiding you to select the best habits to follow. The higher the score, the more influential the recommendation. The Impact Score is based on the number of biomarkers impacted by this recommendation, the strength of the science behind it, and the biomarkers’ importance to your goals.

Note that once you have successfully created your Action Plan on the new InsideTracker mobile app, we encourage you to look forward, not backward, because your Action Plan will now only live in your pocket where it rightfully belongs. Additionally, the new data provided by the app’s exclusive WELLNESS SCORE and IMPACT SCORE has created a dramatically improved Action Plan experience with deeper insights and more accountability.

Electrocardiogram monitoring joins blood pressure measurement in receiving clearance, making the Galaxy Watch Active2 Samsung’s most informed and convenient health tracker yet

SEOUL, Korea – May 24, 2020 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. announced today that the Electrocardiogram (ECG) function of the Samsung Health Monitor app has been cleared by South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS). The ECG feature uses advanced sensor technology on the Galaxy Watch Active21, and will enable users to measure and analyze their heart rhythm for irregularities indicating Atrial Fibrillation (AFib)2.

Electrocardiogram Monitoring Cleared for Galaxy Watch Active2 by South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety

AFib is the most common abnormal heart rhythm, affecting an estimated 33.5 million people worldwide, with 5 million new patients diagnosed annually3. It can significantly increase the risk of complications, including blood clots, heart failure and stroke. Every year, over 16 million people will develop a stroke, of which AFib and high blood pressure (hypertension), are known to be the leading causes4.

The Samsung Health Monitor app also recently received MFDS clearance for blood pressure (BP) measurement, meaning users will be able to conveniently measure both ECG and BP, giving them a better picture of their overall health. Together, the ground-breaking ECG and BP technology will help users manage and improve their health by providing on-demand measurements.

“We’re delighted to announce that the ECG function has been cleared by MFDS,” said TaeJong Jay Yang, Corporate SVP and Head of Health Team, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics. “When you pair the advanced hardware of Galaxy watches with innovative software solutions, you can create unmatched experiences – such as in this case, convenient and accessible health check-ins for millions of users across the world. This marks just one way in which Samsung is pioneering to give everyone a simple, convenient and informed picture of their overall health and wellness.”

The ECG function works by analyzing the heart’s electrical activity via an ECG sensor on the Galaxy Watch Active2. Simply open the Samsung Health Monitor app when you are seated comfortably, and ensure the watch is fitted firmly to your wrist. Next, rest your forearm on a flat surface and lightly place a fingertip from the opposite hand on the top button on the Galaxy Watch Active2 for 30 seconds. The app will then measure your heart rate and rhythm, which will be classified as either a Sinus Rhythm (a normal, regular heartbeat) or AFib (when the heart beats irregularly)5.

This recording will provide insight into a user’s health, enabling them to share results with their doctor to help make more informed decisions and live healthier life, especially when combined with the BP measurement.

The Samsung Health Monitor app6 will be available on the Galaxy Watch Active2 within the third quarter and will progressively expand to upcoming Galaxy Watch devices.
