Cadillac today revealed the Project GTP Hypercar that previews the third-generation prototype race car from the American luxury brand. In 2023, Cadillac will contest the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the FIA World Endurance Championship, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The new race car will be powered by an all-new 5.5L DOHC V-8 that will be paired to the LMDh common hybrid system.

In the initial months of waiting, Countach LPI 800-4 customers received one of 112 numbered replicas of an exclusive painting created, as per tradition, by Mateusz Wowk, exterior designer and artist at Lamborghini’s Centro Stile, led by the Head of Design, Mitja Borkert. With the original work created on a large canvas in Sant’Agata Bolognese, the painting was digitally captured using gigapixel technology: one of the most advanced digital acquisition technologies adopted by museums. The work was then replicated in large format on canvas to reproduce the typical materiality of Mateusz’s brushstrokes and a classic example, typical of Lamborghini, in which art takes shape through ultra-high-tech processes.

THEME BOARDS & CREATIVE INSPIRATION

During a creative process, we use a combination of internal elements, such as our experiences and intuition, as well as external factors from the world around us to spark ideas.

Creating theme boards is a way of visually compiling our thoughts, ideas, inspiration and research that forms a tool, in which to draw from.

Theme boards can be used to build a story, as a collection of ideas to explore or as a way to establish a certain feeling or mood.

AZARIS DESIGN THEME BOARD

The core of the Azaris vehicle is its innovative technology which uses fluid as the medium to transfer force.

Fluid flows, is free and is alive. From these qualities various ideas were explored and combined to inspire our design language.

A splash of water is one way of seeing water in motion. Every splash of water is individual in nature; however, shares a set of common characteristics – as the water stretches it forms a flow, creating soft and sharp lines whilst also generating negative space.

We drew further inspiration from the human muscular system. Seeing how each muscle wraps and intertwines around the other, each serving a purpose with strength and adaptability, forming the basis of our movement.

Continuing to draw from life, we explored the structure that exists within all living beings. That structure being the DNA strand. This unique form was the underlying inspiration for the DNA Arms on Azaris.

AZARIS HEADLIGHT THEME BOARD

In keeping with the water theme for the Azaris, a few different forms of water were explored.

Ice caves and geodes were the main inspiration behind the Azaris’ headlight design.

This geometric aesthetic was chosen to contrast against the fluid surfaces of the Azaris’ body, adding interest to the Azaris’ ‘eyes’.

We see prisms and faceted lenses as a key design element in the future of Advanced Vehicles to assist vehicles with interpreting their surroundings.

COLOUR & TRIM THEME BOARDS

During the design process, we use colour and trim theme boards to guide the aesthetics of a vehicle, from the physical form all the way through to the surface treatment and colours.

How a vehicle is perceived and initially experienced is largely influenced by its colour.

ROBUST & STEALTHY

During the concept stage, the Azaris’ strong, tough and agile capabilities were identified.

To express this, we explored a dark colour palette comprising of gunmetals and anodised finishes, evoking a robust and stealthy presence.

FUTURISTIC & TECHY

Another early concept highlighted the Azaris’ innovation and potential for futuristic advancement.

Here a rather clean ‘Utopian’ aesthetic was created with the use of white, contrasted with metals, silvers and translucency, giving the vehicle a lighter, efficient feeling.

ENVIRONMENTAL & NATURAL

The Ferox Technology has the potential to make vehicles more connected to and conscious of the environments they operate in, with the Azaris prototype being the first step in the journey.

Drawing inspiration from our natural world, and in particular paying homage to the Australian landscape, red earthy tones would be combined with watery blues and raw materials such as metals and stone.

OCEAN BLUES

In keeping with the water theme for the Azaris, we explored one of the most powerful forces of water – an ocean wave.

An ocean wave consists of a plethora of different blues, ranging from dark to light, warm to cool and satin to glossy finishes.

These contrasting colour features illustrate motion and expresses the transformative nature of the Ferox Technology.

This concept was selected and further developed for the Azaris colour scheme.

This case study has been put together to help educate and share our process with the community.

Pagani Huayra Codalunga Is a $7.4 Million

Pagani has revealed a very special Huayra, which will be sending off the marque’s current flagship in style with a limited run of five units. This streamlined beauty is the Huayra Codalunga, paying tribute to the long-tailed sports racers of the 1960s.

As limited-run Paganis go, this one takes the opposite approach to what we’ve seen before. The fussiness and addenda are stripped back, as the bodywork itself is elongated and smoothed.

“The Huayra Codalunga comprises very few essential elements,” Pagani has said of the project. “We have taken away rather than added. Simplifying is not at all straightforward, and this vehicle is, above all, the result of a complex pursuit of simple ideas.”

Indeed, there are no spoilers, no canards and barely a drop of garish exposed carbon fibre. 

Instead, it gains 360mm of length, most of which is in the engine cover and tail, while that tail has been stretched and redesigned, with the lights rearranged from their triangular formation into an upward-canting line. The clam engine cover now spans a monster 3.7m2, which is to say, don’t lift without assistance. Amazingly, but entirely in keeping with Pagani, this Huayra with all that extra bodywork weighs just 1,280kg.

At the front, the Huayra has been modernised and simplified. The very Zonda-esque integrated light units courtesy, we think, of the upcoming Huayra replacement, the C10, replace the four-per-side arrangement of the normal Huayra. The oval ‘mouth’ is retained – albeit with no aggressive splitter element below – as are the active winglet elements, which are also retained at the rear.

The Codalunga also inherits the buttress inlets first seen on the Huayra BC Roadster, which are also expected to feature on the C10. They’ll be feeding the 6.0-litre twin-turbo Mercedes-AMG V12 from the Huayra Tricolore that’s good for 841PS (618kW), which is also expected to live on in the C10. There are no performance numbers, but minus the drag of the usual Pagani aero frippery and with the added stability of an elongated rear end, we wouldn’t be surprised if this is a 240mph car.

The project was the brainchild of two particularly enthusiastic and persistent Pagani customers who’ve been nurturing the idea for some time. It’s proved the perfect breakout model for Pagani’s new Grandi Complicazioni division for special projects. The Codalunga has a price befitting a special project with so much new design and homologation required: £6million each and yes, all five are sold.

The countdown has begun to the start of Superyacht Cup Palma 2022 with the four-day Mallorcan festival of sail all set to get underway in less than a month on June 29.

Europe’s longest-running superyacht regatta will lead-off with two races for the awe-inspiring J-Class on the opening day, with Topaz, Ranger and Velsheda – along with the recently entered Svea – providing a magnificent spectacle of timeless racing out on the Bay of Palma.

The whole Superyacht Cup Palma fleet then joins the party for three days of top-flight racing, with the entry list reflecting the dynamic range of superyachts including luxury ocean cruisers, modern classics and high-performance carbon flyers.

An impressive new addition to the list is the 24m Wally yacht Rose (ex-Tango). The Farr design may be the smallest entry in the 2022 fleet, but none of her competitors will be underestimating her potential when racing begins.

“The new owners of Rose are keen to build on her racing pedigree,” said her skipper Ben Potter. “We have a 2022 calendar with emphasis on the biggest and best regattas, and Superyacht Cup Palma will undoubtedly provide one of the highlights of the season. We are all really looking forward to it.”

As ever shoreside events will play a key role in the SYC experience which, for the second year in succession, will be centred on the world-famous Real Club Náutico de Palma. The RCNP will again also provide SYC’s professional race management, a role the renowned club has had since 2011.

“The excitement is growing and the Superyacht Cup Palma team are flat-out making the final preparations for what we believe will be a memorable regatta,” said Event Director Kate Branagh.

FabMan Creations has unveiled a striking resto-mod dubbed the “Storm,” based on BMW’s R nineT motorcycle, a classic roadster first introduced in 2014. Due to the modular nature of the bike, the R9T has received countless makeovers over the years, so delivering a novel take on the two-wheeler presented a unique undertaking.

Storm is a scandal motorcycle presented by FabMan Creations, an absolutely avant-garde design created by the South African trainer Wayne Buys; this striking design is inspired by the art deco airplanes and cars of the roaring 20’s and 30’s of the last century. the result? Storm is an aluminum bodied motorcycle that sits on top of a BMW R nineT; the bodywork is held discreetly thanks to the fasteners being hidden, the front wheel is faired and the air intakes emphasize its aerodynamic style; Do you think it’s just a show bike? Not at all, it is a 100% functional motorcycle, so much so that FabMan Creations offers a kit for those who own a BMW R nineT or can get hold of one and turn it into their own Storm, an avant-garde motorcycle like few others, with an almost spatial design.

Taking inspiration from the aerodynamic forms of WW2-era fighter jets, Wayne Buys of FabMan Creations crafts a sleek curved aluminum body kit that involved hammering aluminum sheeting by hand to exact specifications over the build period of 8 months. The panels are secured by small Allen head fasteners that resembled the riveted body of ’40s aircraft and exteriors are finished in matte silver paint with minimal FMC branding above the bulbous tank cover. Additional design highlights include a custom tail section, headlight shroud, bespoke wheel covers, and a series of cylindrical air intakes that resemble plane turbines.
