A SHARED SPIRIT OF STYLE AND CREATIVITY

Jaeger-LeCoultre is delighted to name Lenny Kravitz as a new Ambassador for the Maison. One of the preeminent rock musicians of our time, the singer, songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, actor, designer and photographer is the archetype of the modern Renaissance man.

JAEGER-LECOULTRE – LENNY KRAVITZ – CREATIVITY

Since the very beginning of his career, Lenny Kravitz has been defiantly original, always following his own path, steadfast in his artistic vision. With a strong parallel between his creative philosophy and that of Jaeger-LeCoultre, the relationship with the Maison has come very naturally: “For creators, the most important thing is finding their voice, knowing what they represent and being true to their vision – while always staying open to new ways of thinking,” he says.

A watch enthusiast since childhood, when he became fascinated by his father’s chronographs, Lenny says: “I feel very drawn to Jaeger-LeCoultre. The way they combine such a high level of craftsmanship, design and function in their watches – that really resonates with me.”

“With his artistry, inventiveness and ability to transcend genres, Lenny epitomises Jaeger-LeCoultre’s values and style,” says Catherine Rénier, the CEO of Jaeger-LeCoultre. “We are delighted to have him represent our Maison.”

One of Lenny’s favourite watches is the Reverso, which he wore when he performed at the 2023 Oscars ceremony. An instantly recognisable design icon, the Reverso is an ideal match for a man whose innate sense of style was recognised last year by the Council of Fashion Designer of America (CFDA) with its ‘Fashion Icon’ award. Fusing 1970s bohemian influences with rockstar classics and fashion-forward statements, Lenny’s nonchalant elegance makes even his most daring outfits look effortless and timeless.

“Beyond the function of a watch, style is very important – how it looks and the way it fits on your wrist. You have to really connect with it,” he adds. “My Jaeger-LeCoultre pieces feel like they have always been there – they blend with me and their style is absolutely timeless. You can really make these watches your own and when you want to change the mood, change the vibe, they always fit. It’s as if they become one with you.”

Lenny’s music has always blended inspirations from rock, blues, funk, and soul, fusing them into a unique and constantly evolving musical style that is matched by his distinctive and individualistic personal style. His renowned design work is confident and timeless with a boldly modern edge. Similarly to Jaeger-LeCoultre, Lenny’s work in all of his creative endeavours is driven by a spirit of curiosity and constant exploration. He blends myriad influences and inspirations with innovative ideas so that every new creation is fresh, exciting – and distinctly his own.

Along with fellow Jaeger-LeCoultre Ambassador Anya Taylor-Joy, he recently completed the filming of a new campaign for the Maison, to be released in May.

Spirit of Big Bang

SPIRIT OF BIG BANG SANG BLEU: THE EMBODIMENT & SPIRIT IN THREE DIMENSIONS

For the 7th year and third collaboration with Hublot, Maxime Plescia-Buchi is channelling the Spirit of Big Bang through the Sang Bleu prism. Just as his tattoos create new identity, revealing new shapes and new perspectives, the celebrated typographer, tattooist, artist and founder of Sang Bleu injects a new spirit into the Spirit of Big Bang collection. The Spirit of Big Bang Sang Bleu stays true to the series’ characteristics while remaining highly distinctive. With a faceted, structured 42 mm diameter, this watch has an enhanced three-dimensional and ergonomically-enhanced design. There are three limited editions to adorn your wrist – 200 units in titanium, 200 in All Black ceramic and 100 in King Gold. In addition, two models are set with 180 diamonds in titanium and King Gold.

Identical or different? Both… But always unique!

Ensuring consistency while remaining innovative. Keeping the spirit while creating a unique, exclusive and distinctive object. This is the subtlety of the art behind the Hublot and Maxime Plescia-Buchi collaboration.

The talented tattoo artist has reimagined the strokes of the Spirit of Big Bang with stretched, elongated bevelled features and measured, perfectly proportioned angles that fit together to create a timepiece where the Sang Bleu signature is instantly recognisable. Like each of his tattoos, the line adapts to the case, to its distinctive characteristics, reliefs, curves, and texture, while retaining what is essential: its spirit.

This is the same philosophy that inspired the Spirit of Big Bang.

Hublot x Sang Bleu: Seven years of artistic and creative collaboration

First introduced in the 2016 Hublot – Sang Bleu series, 2023 saw the third edition unveiled at the Salone del Mobile in Milan. The tattoo artist has stamped his indelible, distinctive, and assertive line on a new collection. After the Big Bang, his signature now adorns the Spirit of Big Bang. As usual, he traces his three-dimensional geometry in perfect symmetry with a mysteriously magnetic architecture, playing with relief and depth through polished, satin finished, engraved, chiselled, bevelled and faceted materials. Hexagons, diamonds and triangles appear and overlap, redefining shapes and volumes line by line.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=WYObRGL5E10%3Ffeature%3Doembed%26autoplay%3D0%26loop%3D0%26controls%3D1%26mute%3D0%26wmode%3Dopaque%26rel%3D0

The result: The Spirit Big Bang Sang Bleu

A 42 mm-diameter case, crafted in a choice of three materials: Titanium (200 units), All Black ceramic (200 units) or King Gold (100 units), as well as two models set with 180 diamonds weighing approximately 2.4 carats, in titanium and King Gold. Geometric tattoos alternate and overlap from the case to the bezel. A sapphire dial displays the HUB4700 automatic skeleton chronograph movement through disc hands bearing the characteristic geometry of timepieces made in collaboration with Sang Bleu.

A watch that, even with its ultra-generous proportions and prominent shape, offers a perfect ergonomic fit across all wrist sizes, for both men and women, with or without a bezel. The geometry of the Big Bang Sang Bleu II has been retained while also optimising the dynamic nature of the barrel shape.

In terms of design, to ensure that the watch perfectly fits the curves of the wrist and is flush with the body, the back of the case and the sapphire crystal have been arched at several points. In terms of dial legibility, the structure of the hands has been enhanced and the hour and minute markers have been refined.

By transposing his line onto a different volume, the barrel shape of the Spirit of Big Bang, Maxime has given new perspective to each component, shape and proportion. It is these details that give the Spirit of Big Bang a new dimension, just as Hublot gave a new spirit to the Big Bang codes by unveiling the Spirit of Big Bang in its barrel shape back in 2014.

Hublot – Sang Bleu – Trilogy

Hublot & Maxime Plescia-Buchi have art in their blood and are “inking” the art of tattooing into watchmaking. In 2016, the first Big Bang Sang Bleu saw the three-dimensional geometry of the famous tattoo artist imprinted on its design, revealing a perfectly proportioned structure inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man. This quest for perfection and the use of symbols is the hallmark of all of Sang Bleu’s creative work. In 2019, with the Sang Bleu II, the tattoo artist x watchmaker collaboration was expressed as a “full body” tattoo across the entire Big Bang model, including the case, the hexagonal bezel, the sapphire crystal, the hands, and the bracelet. A three-dimensional style that has been entirely revamped in 2023 to embody a new “tattooed” collection – the Spirit of Big Bang. In perfect fusion with the way Hublot launched the Spirit of Big Bang in 2014, incorporating Hublot’s DNA and the distinctive codes of the Big Bang (its 6 H-shaped titanium screws running through the watch bezel, sandwich construction with endless combinations of materials and colours, signature lugs on each side of the case, and a screwed crown over moulded with rubber), Maxime has revisited each component of the Spirit of Big Bang.

In honour of the 20th Anniversary of the Crazy Hours, Franck Muller and Hom Nguyen joined up their talents for the second time, with the same leitmotiv: to bring together the watchmaking know-how and the talent of the artist to offer their collectors an exceptional limited collection.

For this collection, Hom Nguyen let his imagination run free by drawing each numeral with his legendary and talented pattern. From one line to another, the drawing embodies the trajectories of human lives. The numerals drawn by the artist and replicated by Franck Muller’s dial craftsmen in the purest watchmaking tradition thus come to life.

Featuring the iconic Crazy Hours complication, this limited edition offers a unique reading of time, showing the hour numerals drawn by hand in the most unconventional order. Thanks to a patented mechanism, the central hour hand literally jumps from one hour to the next, respectfully following the numbers placed randomly on the dial.

Thereby after 60 minutes the hour hand would jump to the next correct number. Meanwhile, the minute hand follows a conventional 60-minute cycle revolving around the dial. Time becomes a value that is personal, individual, and unique. You find yourself eagerly waiting at each 59th minute to observe the Crazy Hours’ mesmerizing jump.

With a bidirectional self-winding movement, this mythical and enchanting masterpiece of watchmaking enjoys a power reserve of 42 hours.

The Vanguard Crazy Hours Hom Nguyen is the perfect translation of a piece of art; each timepiece comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist in addition to the usual certificate of authenticity. To make the collection as unique as it already is, each timepiece will come in a special presentation box.

Available in stainless steel, titanium, ceramic and 18k rose gold, the limited edition of 50 or 100 pieces depending on the finishing, is presented in the sizes 41, 43 and 45 millimetres.

Patek Philippe presents luxury timepieces in Watches and Wonders Geneva 2023

Patek Philippe presents 17 new watch models with innovative technical and aesthetic features, enriching its vast range of collections

On the occasion of Watches and Wonders 2023, the Geneva-based manufacture is unveiling a wide selection of new models, ranging from a Calatrava with an original 24-hour display and a Travel Time function for the display of a second time zone, to a new haute joaillerie version of the Grandmaster Chime, and the first Annual Calendar to enter the ladies’ Aquanaut Luce collection, renowned for its modern casual chic. A new vintage celebrating technical mastery and creativity.

“Why does Patek Philippe offer so many different collections? Because each of them has its own character and its own way of enabling us to innovate and express ourselves.” That was the message from Thierry Stern, president of the family-owned manufacture, in a recent communications campaign centering on the company’s brand philosophy. From the Grand Complications to the elegant sports models and others that have become icons of horological design, Patek Philippe maintains a vast choice of watches for men and women in every market segment. As time passes, the manufacture takes great care to ensure a balanced evolution of the approximately 150 references, which are crafted in small series, ranging from about ten pieces to a few hundred. The 17 new introductions presented at the Watches and Wonders 2023 salon are the perfect illustration.

Five refined new looks for the striking watches –Grand Complications emblematic of Patek Philippe

Since the manufacture’s foundation in 1839, Patek Philippe has made its mark as one of the greatest specialists in striking watches. Its supreme mastery was confirmed in 2014 by the launch, as a limited edition, of the Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime – the most complicated Patek Philippe wristwatch, with 20 complications. This timepiece, which joined the current collection in 2016, is particularly notable for its five chiming modes, including an alarm striking the pre-selected time, and a date repeater striking the date on demand.

The manufacture is reinterpreting the design of the double-face reversible case, endowed with a patented rotation mechanism, by presenting it for the first time in a bicolor version combining white gold and rose gold. This new Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime Reference 6300GR-001 also stands out by its two brown opaline dials, with a hand-guilloched Clous de Paris or hobnail pattern on the side displaying the time of day, and its two-tone chestnut brown patinated alligator strap and bicolor folding buckle.

In 2022, Patek Philippe highlighted the mechanical perfection of the Grandmaster Chime with two gem- set versions, one with baguette-cut diamonds (Reference 6300/400G-001) the other with baguette-cut diamonds and baguette-cut blue sapphires (Reference 6300/401G-001). Now, the manufacture is presenting a new alliance between haute horlogerie and haute joaillerie with the Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime Haute Joaillerie Reference 6300/403G-001 shimmering with 118 baguette-cut emeralds (7.87 ct) and 291 baguette-cut diamonds (20.54 ct) in a superb example of the “baguette” and “invisible” setting techniques. This timepiece is endowed with two dials in ebony-black opaline, with a hand-guilloched Clous de Paris or hobnail pattern on the time side and a shiny black alligator leather strap with emerald-green hand stitching.

Another outstanding piece among the striking watches, Reference 5316, launched in 2017, unites a minute repeater, a tourbillon, a perpetual calendar with retrograde date hand and a moon-phase indicator. In the Grand Complication Reference 5316/50P-001, Patek Philippe gives this timepiece a unique new modern allure –with a platinum case and a sapphire-crystal dial with blue metallization and black-gradient rim, affording a veiled glimpse of the mechanical heart of the watch.

Rare Handcrafts World Time Minute Repeater Reference 5531G-001

Rare Handcrafts World Time Minute Repeater Reference 5531G-001

The manufacture is also enriching its selection of minute-repeating wristwatches –the largest such range in a current collection –with two reinterpretations under the heading of Rare Handcrafts. Rare Handcrafts World Time Minute Repeater Reference 5531G-001 – the first minute repeater model that always strikes the local time –is also the first World Time Minute Repeater in white gold. Its dial center is adorned with a new Grand Feu cloisonné enamel scene depicting one of the famous steamboats still plying the waters of Lake Geneva. Another new model, Rare Handcrafts Minute Repeater Reference 5178G-012, is endowed with a self-winding movement and “cathedral” gongs whose sound is particularly deep and rich. It features a new dial in blue Grand Feu flinqué enamel over a distinctive hand-guilloched swirling pattern.

Calatrava Reference 5224R-001

Calatrava Reference 5224R-001

A new complicated model and refreshed designs in the Calatrava collection

With its sleek round case and air of understatement, the Calatrava collection (launched in 1932) has made its mark as the archetype of timeless elegance. Over the years, Patek Philippe has added to this vast family a variety of complications used in everyday life, such as the Travel Time dual time zone function and the weekly calendar. The manufacture is now expanding its range of travel watches with the new Calatrava Reference 5224R-001 featuring the Travel Time dual time zone and an original 24- hour display. The new caliber 31-260 PS FUS 24H self-winding movement is further distinguished by its patented system for correcting local time by the crown. It is housed in a rose-gold case harmonizing with a blue dial embellished by complex finishing touches, adorned with numerals, hour markers and five-minute cabochons all in rose gold, individually applied by hand.

Since 2015, the models in the Pilot style – inspired by the Patek Philippe watches created for aviators in the 1930s – have featured prominently in the manufacture’s collections, with several versions of the Calatrava Pilot Travel Time with the dual time-zone mechanism, as well as a Grand Complication equipped with a 24-hour alarm. Patek Philippe is now endowing this distinctive line, known for its original, highly recognizable aesthetic, with its first two chronograph models: Calatrava Pilot Travel Time Chronograph Reference 5924G-001, with a blue-gray sunburst dial and a navy-blue grained calfskin strap; and the Calatrava Pilot Travel Time Chronograph Reference 5924G-010, with a lacquered dial in khaki green and an olive-green calfskin strap with a vintage finish. These two watches house the caliber CH 28-520 C FUS self-winding movement uniting three practical and user-friendly complications:   a fly-back chronograph, a Travel Time dual time zone function and the date indicated by a hand, coupled with local time.

Other new models in the Patek Philippe current collection include the Calatrava references 6007G- 001, 6007G-010 and 6007G-011 featuring a graphic modern style. The ebony black dials, enriched with three types of finish, center an embossed “carbon” pattern. The dynamism of the design is heightened by touches of color on the dials and straps: yellow (6007G-001), red (6007G-010) or sky blue (6007G-011). The white-gold cases house the caliber 26-330 S C self-winding movement with date and stop-seconds function.

4997/200R - CALATRAVA

4997/200R – CALATRAVA

Patek Philippe is also expanding its range of elegant watches for women with the new Calatrava self- winding Reference 4997/200R-001, a reinterpretation of a great classic that catches the eye with a rose-gold case and a dial and strap decked out in purple. The dial, embossed with a pattern of concentric waves, is coated with more than fifty layers of translucent lacquer, creating a mesmerizing sense of depth. The case is adorned with a diamond-set bezel and houses the caliber 240 ultra-thin self-winding movement.

New functions and new faces for the Aquanaut and Aquanaut Luce

Patek Philippe made its mark in the domain of sporty elegance by designing two models that have acquired cult status: the Nautilus (1976) and the Aquanaut (1997), the latter strengthening its offer in 2004 with the launch of the ladies’ Aquanaut Luce line. Following the introduction of a Travel Time dual time-zone model in 2021 and a self-winding chronograph version in 2022, the Aquanaut Luce is now treating itself to a new practical and easy-to-use complication: the patented Annual Calendar. Graced with a blue-gray dial and strap, this Aquanaut Luce Annual Calendar Reference 5261R-001 in rose gold enhances the choice of complicated watches for women with a non-gemset model.

The new self-winding ladies’ Aquanaut Luce Reference 5268/200R-010 coordinates a rose-gold case with a dial and integrated strap in taupe –a warm hue between brown and gray in perfect harmony with this model’s “modern casual chic” style. Its characteristic rounded octagonal bezel is lit by the fire of 48 diamonds. The case is water resistant to 120 m and houses the caliber 26-330 S C self-winding movement with stop seconds.

The self-winding Aquanaut chronograph for men, already available in steel and in white gold, also sports a rose-gold case for the new Aquanaut Chronograph Reference 5968R-001, endowed with a sunburst dial in a gradient of brown to black, and a matching composite strap.

From technical models to jewelry pieces

In the segment of complicated watches for men, Self-winding Flyback Chronograph with Annual Calendar Reference 5905R-010 endowed with a rose-gold case and a blue sunburst dial lends a new face to this alliance between two sought-after Patek Philippe complications.

Gondolo Serata Reference 4962/200R-001

Gondolo Serata Reference 4962/200R-001

The Gondolo collection, comprising the Patek Philippe “form watches” of Art Deco inspiration, announces the return of a jewelry watch with unique style and timeless elegance. The Gondolo Serata Reference 4962/200R-001, in rose gold, is set with spessartites arranged in a double color gradient, highlighting the case’s refined curves. The brown-lacquered dial presents a floral decoration with contrasting finishes.

A rich collection of rare handcrafts

Once again, as in previous years, Patek Philippe is also unveiling a splendid collection of one-of-a-kind or limited-edition pieces (dome table clocks, table clocks, pocket watches and wristwatches) showcasing the rarest and most refined of the artistic crafts, such as miniature painting on enamel, Grand Feu cloisonné enameling, hand engraving and wood marquetry. The “Rare Handcrafts 2023” exhibition, bringing together these 67 creations, will be open to the public from April 1 to 15 2023 in the Patek Philippe Salons in Geneva.

Vacheron Constantin, the luxury Swiss watchmaking ‘Into The Light’ A tribute to the beauty of hidden details

March 22nd, 2023 – Vacheron Constantin, the luxury Swiss watchmaking Maison with nearly 270 years of expertise and continuous history, is delighted to announce its Ramadan 2023 tale, ‘Into The Light’. An illuminated journey bringing together Middle East culture and the Maison’s commitment to watchmaking excellence and finest craftsmanship.

Light is an ancient timekeeper with its dawns and dusks that marks the passage of each day. It is of particular importance during the Holy Month of Ramadan. Vacheron Constantin recognizes the tradition of timekeeping, honoring it with ‘Into The Light’.

The Tale

Celebrating timeless traditions in honor of the Holy Month of Ramadan, ‘Into The Light’ is both modern and inspired from the past. The tale transports viewers on a unique and beautiful journey into a traditional lantern, the ‘fanoos’. The lantern opens its door to reveal a hidden Arabian city located in the desert lit by the glimmering moonlight. Its buildings are inspired by iconic Islamic architecture found in different parts of UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain. Navigating through the city, viewers arrive in front of a door designed to resemble a watch caliber showcasing the incredible craftmanship and finishing of the timepiece. The caliber is seen shinning and the beautiful light that comes out of it starts to illuminate the entire city and bringing life under the night sky. Viewers are then transported back outside the city, all the way through the ‘fanoos’ door showing the lit lantern that projects a beautiful mashrabiya pattern on the walls, inspired from Islamic art, a beautiful symbol that reflects the spirituality and radiance of Ramadan.
As the light is being unlocked at the completion of the pattern, the viewer understands the strong correlation between Islamic architecture, artfulness of mashrabiya patterns, and elements of a Vacheron Constantin caliber. These three elements share a commonality that is their perfect geometry. Serving both functional and aesthetical purposes in a very harmonious way, the perfect geometrical patterns appear to be at the foundation of the heritage of the region and the Maison.

The Ultimate Ramadan Elegance with Vacheron Constantin’s timepieces

Égérie Creative Edition

The Égérie Creative Edition timepiece draws on the decorative craftsmanship that has been an integral part of the Manufacture since the early 19th century. It echoes the silhouettes of the 21st century. Its asymmetrical features including the off-centre moon-phase display and the case’s integrated crown set with a rose-cut diamond between 1 and 2 o’clock accentuate the delicacy of the “embroidered” dial swept over by three graceful hands specially designed for the watch.

Égérie moon phase

Haute Horlogerie instils the technical sophistication so dear to Vacheron Constantin and the legacy of the asymmetrical displays that have marked its history, while Haute Couture endows Égérie with style, magnificently refined shapes, attention to detail and delicate textures. Égérie moon phase jewellery is first and foremost an exceptional aesthetic appeal, a refined silhouette with an impeccable fit on the wrist. Available in three versions, A full diamond-set version: Égérie moon phase jewellery, A diamond-set dial and case version: Égérie moon phase diamond-paved and a new model with a flowing pink gold bracelet: Egérie moon phase.

Patrimony perpetual calendar ultra-thin

The Patrimony perpetual calendar ultra-thin watch beats to the rhythm of the legendary 1120 QP calibre, an ultra-thin selfwinding movement. With its sleek lines embodying quintessential elegance, this version treats connoisseurs to unrivalled contemporary refinement. The perpetual calendar complication requires miniaturisation prowess in that the movement must be mechanically adjusted to deal with calendar irregularities. This miniaturisation has been pushed to the limit in order to create an ultra-thin perpetual calendar, with Vacheron Constantin’s Calibre 1120 QP measuring a mere 4.05 mm thick.

Traditionnelle complete calendar

The classically inspired Traditionnelle complete calendar – with its stepped round case and lugs, fluted caseback and railway minute-track swept over by Dauphine-style hours and minutes hands – retains Vacheron Constantin’s signature touch of originality in the display of the calendar indications. The day and month windows are positioned around the rim of the dial, while the date is shown by a dedicated pointer. This layout particularly highlights a precision moon phase located at 6 o’clock. Powered by Calibre 2460 QCL/1, the Traditionnelle complete calendar watch features a 22K gold openworked oscillating weight with a design inspired by the Maison’s Maltese cross emblem, the movement visible from the back bears all the finishing touches one would expect from an Haute Horlogerie calibre.

INNOVATIVE AND CLASSIC
A TIMELESSLY ELEGANT WATCHMAKING FEAT

“This is a masterpiece of horological science. It is, in fact, a synthesis of all that has been achieved up to the present day.” Upon its launch, the Datejust was described by Hans Wilsdorf, the Rolex founder, as a consummate demonstration of watchmaking techniques. Indeed, it showcased all of the brand’s major accomplishments to that point, with a certified chronometer movement, a self-winding mechanism and a waterproof case, complemented by the date display in a special window on the dial.

In 1957, a woman’s version with a diameter of 26 mm (today 28 mm) was released: the Oyster Perpetual Lady-Datejust. As reliable as the Datejust, it concentrates all the attributes of the original model.

The Datejust also expresses harmonious elegance and perfectly embodies the classic watch according to Rolex. Its enduring aesthetics make it instantly recognizable. The characteristic shape of the Oyster case, the 18 ct gold fluted bezel, the Cyclops lens over the date and the five-piece link Jubilee bracelet – specially made for the model – all helped make this watch a classic.

A WITNESS TO WORLD AFFAIRS
CELEBRATING DATES WITH DESTINY

AN OPTIMIZED READING

Created to improve the legibility of the date, the Cyclops lens is both an aesthetic and a technical brand signature. This Rolex invention, named after the one-eyed giant in Greek mythology, was patented in the early 1950s and presented for the first time in 1953 on a Datejust. Its magnifying effect makes the date easier to read. Initially in plexiglass, it has been crafted in sapphire since the 1970s, like the watch’s crystal. Virtually impervious to scratches, the sapphire now features a double anti-reflective coating, making it even more effective.

THE DIALS
INFINITE FACES

With a large selection of dials, the Datejust offers the most varied combinations of all Rolex watches. Set with diamonds or made from mother-of-pearl, adorned with palm or fluted motifs, or featuring a sunray finish, the Datejust dials offer a host of faces available in a wide variety of materials, colours and motifs, with different hour markers (index or Roman or Arabic numerals) and multiple gem-setting possibilities. Bearing chief responsibility for the identity and legibility of Rolex watches, all the brand’s dials are developed in-house for optimal results.

THE BEZEL
A DISTINCTIVE FEATURE

Smooth, fluted, domed or set with diamonds, the varied bezels allow the Datejust to reflect the personality of the wearer. The bezel is one of the watch’s most visible features and one of the most emblematic aspects of Rolex know-how. It can therefore be set with brilliant-cut diamonds, selected in-house by experts to ensure they sparkle beautifully. An iconic Rolex signature, the fluted bezel is crafted from 18 ct yellow, white or Everose gold.

AN ICON OF ROLEX KNOW-HOW

THE 31, 36 OR 41 MM OYSTER CASE
A SYMBOL OF WATERPROOFNESS

The Datejust’s case, 31 mm, 36 mm or 41 mm in diameter and guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 100 metres (330 feet), is a paragon of robustness and reliability. The middle case is crafted from a solid block of Oystersteel, a particularly corrosion-resistant alloy, or 18 ct gold. The case back, edged with fine fluting, is hermetically screwed down with a special tool that grants only Rolex watchmakers access to the movement.

The Twinlock winding crown, fitted with a double waterproofness system, screws down securely against the case. Completely waterproof, the Oyster case provides optimum protection for the Datejust’s movement.

ROLESOR
AN ALLIANCE OF ALLOYS

For close to a century, gold and steel have come together in a pas de deux where sophistication meets strength. Created in the early 1930s, Rolesor features exclusively on Rolex watches in the Oyster Perpetual collection. The concept is simple: the bezel, the winding crown and the centre bracelet links are made of yellow or Everose gold while the middle case and outer links of the bracelet are made of Oystersteel. On white Rolesor models, the bezel alone is in white gold. These unique combinations are one of the brand’s signatures.

PERPETUAL CALIBRES 2236 AND 3235
MOVEMENTS AT THE FOREFRONT OF WATCHMAKING TECHNOLOGY

Datejust models are fitted with calibre 2236 (Datejust 31) or calibre 3235 (Datejust 36 and Datejust 41), self-winding mechanical movements entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. A consummate demonstration of technology, these movements carry a number of patents. They offer outstanding performance in terms of precision, power reserve, resistance to shocks, convenience and reliability.

The oscillator of calibre 2236 and calibre 3235 has a balance wheel with variable inertia regulated to an extremely precise degree via gold Microstella nuts. It is held firmly in place by a height-adjustable traversing bridge enabling very stable positioning to increase shock resistance. The oscillator is also fitted on patented high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers, designed by Rolex.

Calibre 2236 incorporates a Syloxi hairspring in silicon, which is manufactured by the brand and patented. Calibre 3235 features an optimized version of the blue Parachrom hairspring, manufactured by Rolex in a paramagnetic alloy. Both hairsprings are resistant to strong magnetic fields and offer good stability in the face of temperature variations.

The geometry of the Syloxi hairspring in calibre 2236 guarantees the regularity of the movement in any position; the blue Parachrom hairspring in calibre 3235 is fitted with a Rolex overcoil offering the same level of performance.

Calibre 2236 features a paramagnetic escape wheel in nickel -phosphorus. Calibre 3235 incorporates the patented Chronergy escapement, made of the same alloy, which combines high energy efficiency with exceptional dependability. This escapement is also resistant to strong magnetic fields.

Calibre 2236 and calibre 3235 are fitted with a self-winding module featuring a Perpetual rotor, which ensures continuous winding of the mainspring by harnessing the movements of the wrist to provide constant energy. Calibre 2236 offers a power reserve of approximately 55 hours, while the power reserve of calibre 3235 extends to approximately 70 hours thanks to its barrel architecture and the escapement’s superior efficiency.

The Datejust’s movements will be seen only by certified Rolex watchmakers, yet they are beautifully finished and decorated in keeping with the brand’s uncompromising quality standards.

THE DATEJUST, SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER CERTIFIED

Like all Rolex watches, the Datejust is covered by the Superlative Chronometer certification redefined by Rolex in 2015. This exclusive designation testifies that every watch leaving the brand’s workshops has successfully undergone a series of tests conducted by Rolex in its own laboratories and according to its own criteria. These certification tests apply to the fully assembled watch, after casing the movement, guaranteeing superlative performance on the wrist in terms of precision, waterproofness, self-winding and power reserve. The Superlative Chronometer status is symbolized by the green seal that comes with every Rolex watch and is coupled with an international five-year guarantee.

The precision of every movement – officially certified as a Chronometer by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) – is tested a second time by Rolex after casing to ensure that it meets precision criteria far stricter than those of the official certification. The precision of a Rolex Superlative Chronometer is approximately −2/+2 seconds per day – the rate deviation tolerated by the brand for a finished watch is significantly smaller than that accepted by COSC for the official certification of the movement alone.

Superlative Chronometer certification testing is carried out using state-of-the-art equipment specially developed by Rolex, according to an exclusive test protocol that simulates the conditions in which a watch is actually worn and more closely represents real-life experience. The entirely automated series of tests also checks the waterproofness, self-winding capacity and power reserve of all Rolex watches. These post-casing tests systematically complement the qualification testing performed during the development and production of the watches to ensure reliability, robustness and resistance to magnetic fields and shocks.
