Description

Chassis no. DB5/1681/R

Clothed in aluminum ‘saloon’ bodywork by Milanese design house, Carrozzeria Touring, Aston Martin chassis no. DB5/1681/R is resplendent in Snow Shadow Grey over red Connolly leather. Delivered new to Mr. A. White on July 7, 1964, this five-speed DB5 spent much of its life in the UK until it was purchased by Sir Sean through RS Williams, a well-known Aston Martin specialist. Today, the availability of the Connery DB5 represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, DB5/1681/R is the only DB5 ever personally owned by Sir Sean and is offered for sale directly from the Connery estate, who have also committed to donating a significant portion of the sale proceeds to benefit the Sean Connery Philanthropy Fund.

Another aspect of note in the sale of the Connery Aston Martin is that his longtime friend, fellow Scotsman, and multiple F1 World Championship racing driver, Sir Jackie Stewart has offered to give the successful buyer a drive in the car at a mutually agreeable time. While the drive itself will no doubt be memorable, the opportunity to perhaps hear a bit more about Sir Sean from a lifelong friend will no doubt be an equally compelling aspect of the added bonus. Sir Sean and Sir Jackie shared a long history of charitable work together dating over four decades and the Connery family has continued to support the work and commitment of their father to his friend. They continue to do so today by supporting Sir Jackie Stewart’s Race Against Dementia Foundation, an admirable endeavor shared between generations of family and friends.

The Aston Martin DB5 is in highly presentable condition. In fact, shortly after Sir Sean purchased the car, it went to noted marque specialist RS Williams where it received a mechanical freshening along with a full repaint to the correct Snow Shadow Grey, the correct shade of silver for Mr. Bond’s Aston Martin. Since then, the car has been well-maintained and has recently undergone a thorough service and inspection by RS Williams in preparation for the auction.

EXHIBITION ABSTRACT

Produced in collaboration with EON Productions and The Ian Fleming® Foundation, Bond in Motion is the first official exhibition in the United States to feature original vehicles from the James Bond film franchise. The exhibit celebrates the 60th anniversary of the 007 films, since Dr. No was released in 1962.

With the publication of his first spy novel, Casino Royale (1953), author and former naval intelligence officer Ian Fleming introduced the world to the enchanting exploits of James Bond, a British officer in the Secret Intelligence Service, also known as MI6. In all, Fleming would produce twelve novels and two short stories, laying the foundation for what would become a global literary and cinematic legacy.

Beginning in 1962, with the movie adaptation of Fleming’s sixth title, Dr. No, the exciting and dangerous world of James Bond was translated to screen, setting the tone for Bond films to come. Much like the novels on which they are based, Bond films combine the adventure of exotic locations and scheming villains with the action of death-defying stunts, and heart-pounding chases in nearly every type of vehicle imaginable. Often modified by quartermaster “Q,” these vehicles, much like Bond himself, conceal their true nature until their weapons and gadgetry become important plot devices.

The Bond in Motion exhibit offers visitors a rare up-close experience of the most iconic vehicles associated with the world’s most famous secret agent, 007.

Cutting-edge style and innovation have always been essential parts of the James Bond story. In keeping with that legacy, OMEGA has now delivered a brand new Seamaster Diver 300M James Bond Numbered Edition, offering plenty of high-tech details for 007 fans to enjoy.

OMEGA Goes Platinum-Gold For New James Bond Watch

OMEGA has been equipping James Bond with its Seamaster timepieces since GoldenEye in 1995. This special new release is a proud celebration of that partnership, and provides a new addition to the 007 collection.

For an exceptional look, the 42 mm case is crafted in platinum-gold, with a platinum-gold plate on its side, engraved with each Numbered Edition number. The same beautiful material is also used for the polished-brushed buckle of the watch’s black leather strap.

More unique details can be uncovered throughout the design, including a black ceramic bezel ring with a platinum diving scale in positive relief, as well as a black enamel dial, which has been given a spiralling gun barrel design in 18K white gold.

As part of the OMEGA James Bond collection that was launched last year, this watch also includes a hidden number 50 within the Super-LumiNova of the 10 o’clock index – a reference to the 50th anniversary of the James Bond film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Elsewhere on the dial, you can find a 007 logo at 7 o’clock on the white enamel minute track, as well as 18K white gold features, including the hands, indexes and Bond family coat-of-arms at 12 o’clock.

Turning the watch over reveals a second Bond family coat-of-arms, which has been laser-engraved and filled with platinum on the sapphire crystal caseback. Its captivating final effect is completed with hand-engraved finishing in the finest detail. Through the glass, you can spy the OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8807 – certified at the highest standards of precision, chronometric performance and magnetic resistance.

Finally, for fans who are able to obtain this Seamaster Diver 300M James Bond Numbered Edition, it comes presented in its own Globe-Trotter™ suitcase, bound by NATO-inspired straps. Inside, an additional black rubber strap is included.
