Mercedes-AMG: “55 years – changing the game”

Founded in 1967 by engineers Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher, the company has continued to build on its position as one of the leading performance and sports car brands through numerous successes in motorsport and the development of unique road cars. Legendary model icons such as the 300 SEL 6.9 AMG racing touring car, the 300 E 5.6 “The Hammer”, the CLK DTM or the SLS AMG Electric Drive have repeatedly confirmed the brand’s reputation as a gamechanger.

This is still true today: the Mercedes-AMG ONE brings modern and efficient Formula 1™ hybrid drive technology from the racetrack to the road for the first time in the world (fuel consumption weighted, combined: 8.7 l/100 km; combined weighted CO2 emissions: 198 g/km; combined weighted electrical consumption: 32 kWh/100 km)[1]. With one combustion engine and four electric motors, the hypercar produces a total of 782 kW (1063 hp) and proves how the Future of Driving Performance sets new records.

The Vision AMG design study provides a glimpse of the future: Beneath the shell of the four-door coupé is the independent AMG.EA platform, which is currently being developed in Affalterbach for all-electric performance models with revolutionary e-drive technology.

“AMG has been reinventing itself again and again for 55 years. As was once the case with our founding fathers, there is a very special spirit of optimism in Affalterbach today. The course is clearly set for an electrified future. And as in all the past years, our standards for future projects are extremely high. I am proud that we can rely on the best employees at our location. Because they are real gamechangers that make AMG so special. And we want to emphasise that just as much with our campaign,” says Philipp Schiemer, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

Brand campaign with authentic people and car stories

“55 years – changing the game” notices this spirit and translates it into a 360-degree social media campaign – with authentic stories of people and vehicles as video clips and stills. The implementation contains numerous, mutually complementary elements. AMG employees communicate their statements on “changing the game” via their social channels. The Brand Ambassadors will.i.am, Susie Wolff, David Coulthard and Lewis Hamilton underline the core message with their statements and build the bridge from tradition into the future.

Iconic pairings of historic and current as well as future vehicles bear witness to the brand’s unbroken innovative power. In addition, editorial contributions on the official Mercedes-AMG website, a special exhibition in the Mercedes-Benz Museum, a temporary exhibition in the AMG Private Lounge in Affalterbach, as well as a special episode “Inside AMG” on YouTube pay tribute to the 55th anniversary of AMG from different perspectives. This also applies to direct customer contact at the point of sale. Here, backdrops with the key visuals refer to the anniversary. Particularly exciting has been the renewed collaboration with various content creators like Sparkly.jada, kayo.daniel or Nictures, who, in keeping with the campaign, are distributing clips on the TikTok platform about “changing the game”.

The current Mercedes-AMG portfolio comprises more than fifty vehicles. The selection ranges from performance vehicles in various body styles to completely independently developed sports cars such as the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door model and the new Mercedes-AMG SL. The range of powertrains has also been continuously developed in line with market requirements and customer wishes and currently offers efficiency-optimised combustion engines with four, six or eight cylinders. In addition, Mercedes-AMG is consistently pursuing the path of the Future of Driving Performance: Performance hybrids with an independent drive layout and technology from Formula 1™ are offered under the E PERFORMANCE label. The portfolio also includes all-electric AMG derivatives based on the Group’s own EVA2 platform. In the near future, completely independent battery-electric AMG models will also follow, which will be based on the new, completely in-house developed electrical architecture (AMG.EA).

Heesen presents the 55-metre steel Project Serena at the Dubai International Boat Show

Heesen is delighted to be back at the Dubai Boat Show from 9 to 13 March. CCO Friso Visser and Sales Director Robert Drontmann look forward to welcoming visitors to stand MD4. Dr Reiner Behne and Tim Trenker from local representative Behnemar will also be in attendance.

“This is the first boat show held in the brand new Dubai Harbour, the region’s largest marina,” comments Friso Visser. “It is inspired by the Gulf’s long tradition of boatbuilding and seafaring and will further enhance Dubai’s position as a global yachting hotspot.” Acknowledging that the UAE is an important maritime hub whose truly international clientele understands and appreciates quality, he added: “We are thrilled to be part of this new beginning and look forward to seeing this boat show bloom. The new marina is an iconic project for Dubai and the region. It will be home to many superyachts, and it will most certainly generate new business – which we are ready to welcome, thanks to our partnership with Behnemar.”

Heesen will be presenting YN 20555 Project Serena, the latest in the shipyard’s successful 55-metre steel class. With exterior lines from the drawing board of Frank Laupman at Omega Architects and interior décor by Luca Dini Design and Architecture, she is currently under construction at the shipyard. She will be available for delivery in November 2024.

“Heesen’s 55-metre steel incorporates a unique combination of qualities in terms of size, features, and value,” says Tim Trenker of Behnemar. “Serena sports an appealing exterior style which mixes modern with traditional, while her Dutch pedigree, high level of quality and perfect market positioning make her an ideal yacht for Middle Eastern clients. And of course, the customer will also benefit from a short delivery time, thanks to Heesen’s speculative build programme.”

Built on Heesen’s proven 55-metre concept, Serena will be presented at the show with a six-cabin layout – but the 55-metre engineering platform offers the possibility of numerous custom options, as Tim Trenker points out: “Thanks to this design’s generous enclosed volume of 760GT, there is great flexibility. I imagine that some owners might choose to add an extra cabin for the staff, for example, or the beach club could be transformed into a gym. There are plenty of possibilities.”

Heesen’s 55-metre Steel allows customers to link their inspiration to the expertise of the shipyard and the creativity of its designers. The result is a perfect match of their unique lifestyle to a tried and tested engineering platform.

TIMELESS PROFILE

Heesen’s 55-metre steel – a uniquely successful superyacht platform. Worldbeating, fuel-efficient Fast Displacement Hull Design, ocean-crossing range, huge interior volumes and a timeless profile – and available on a short delivery schedule, thanks to Heesen’s bold speculative build programme.

Larger windows, assertive shapes, and longer horizontals lend a more aggressive edge to the profile. But take a closer look, and there’s a new French balcony in the owner’s suite. A transformative innovation.

“This is one of the most impressive innovations on the latest version of the 55-metre Steel,” says Heesen CCO Friso Visser. “This is something truly unique that fundamentally changes the space.”

Enhancements to exterior deck spaces are not limited to the upgraded furnishings. Functionality in the new-look 55-metre Steel is improved by additional stairways to provide better access and circulation for the crew. Less formal layouts for the aft seating areas complement a new focus on alfresco dining.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

The muscular exterior lines of Project Serena, have been revisited by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects. “As much as we love our original design with the vertical windows, we felt it was time to make an evolutionary step,” said Frank. “We opted for a larger expanse of floor-to-ceiling glass, without mullions, in the main saloon and sky lounge. Then we took the opportunity to give a slightly more aggressive look to the profile, by using continuous sheets of tinted glass. The horizontal lines stretch the optical length and balance the air draft. The result is beautiful: we retained the family look and feel, but gave it an elegant touch.”

FROM YAMAZAKI,

The birthplace of Japanese Whisky.

Introducing Single Malt Whisky Yamazaki 55 Years Old. The oldest single malt whisky in the history of the House of Suntory. Bottled in 2020.

CRAFTED BY TIME.

In its much anticipated first release of the Yamazaki 55, the House of  Suntory pays tribute to the passage of time. It was in Showa 38 (1963)  that Kotobukiya was renamed Suntory after Keizo Saji succeeded his father, founder Shinjiro Torii as the House’s Second Generation  Master Blender. Keizo was charged to bring his father’s dream to life,  creating not only the quality liquid gold but a quintessentially Japanese experience and lifestyle that rooted Suntory Whisky as the people’s choice.

Today, the House of Suntory is not only regarded as one of the most awarded distillers but as a House that has consistently introduced  Japanese Whisky as a cultural experience to the world.

Keizo Saji and Shinjiro Torii

TOUCHED BY THE HAND OF SHINJIRO TORII,  YAMAZAKI 55 REACHES OUT ACROSS TIME.

A spiritual blend highlighting the Mizunara cask whisky distilled in 1960 under the supervision of founder Shinjiro Torii and the White Oak cask whisky distilled in 1964. Each matured, amber drop reveals  a complex and mystical Yamazaki-ness the world has yet to discover.

Yamazaki 55 is the House of Suntory’s tribute to the passage of time.

THE HOUSE OF SUNTORY’S ART OF AGING

In the world of whisky, we are often led to believe that age is the defining criteria of quality. That the more aged the whisky, the more precious it is. The House of Suntory has consistently challenged this convention because like anything else, the truth is not so simple. Fifth Generation Chief Blender Shinji Fukuyo demonstrated this belief with the launch of Yamazaki Distiller’s  Reserve in 2014 that changed perception of no age statements,  highlighting the young bloomers – the fruity and exuberant malt  whiskies as “ young talents ”, receiving worldly acclaim.

The House of Suntory has always believed that like people, each  malt whisky has its own narrative. Each whisky celebrating its own  peak regardless of age.

There are both young and late bloomers.
With the Yamazaki 55, Fukuyo faced an ironic challenge confronting the complexity of working with rare old whiskies. When he acknowledged imperfections in the casks of 1964, the challenge was  to enhance the potential of these late bloomers, to unveil a Yamazaki-ness not known before.

Fukuyo worked closely at hand with Shingo Torii, Third Generation  Master Blender, to find the right creative alchemy and master the signature art of blending to properly reveal the particular depth,  complexity and wisdom that is Yamazaki 55. What Fukuyo respected throughout this process was a combination of the passage of time and what the Japanese refer to as Wabisabi – the imperfections that make up perfection.

‘‘ Very old Scotch Whiskies gave me this impression of them being perfect Greek sculptures with  beautiful toned beauty. Instantly impressive as a piece of art. But the Yamazaki 55 is more like an old Buddhist statue. Calm and mysterious.  It takes time to take in its inner beauty with the smell of Japanese incense and stripped old wood,  like the Toshodaiji Temple in Nara. ’’

Shinji Fukuyo and Shingo Torii
