BLANCPAIN FIFTY FATHOMS 70TH ANNIVERSARY

In 2023, Blancpain celebrates the 70th anniversary of the first modern diving watch.

Launched in 1953, the Fifty Fathoms is the first modern diver’s watch. Created by a diver to meet the needs of underwater exploration, it was chosen by diving pioneers and elite marine corps around the world as a professional timekeeping instrument. With its water resistance, robust doubled-sealed crown, self-winding movement, contrasting dark dial with luminescent indications, unidirectional rotating bezel and anti-magnetic protection, the Fifty Fathoms has become an indispensable instrument for divers on their underwater missions.

These key signature elements that established the Fifty Fathoms as the archetypal diver’s watch continue to define the identity of such timepieces for the entire watch industry. Bearing witness to the past while simultaneously looking firmly to the future, contemporary Fifty Fathoms models incorporate modern movements renowned for their robustness and reliability. They feature numerous technical innovations derived from Blancpain’s longstanding experience in the field of diving, its risks and its imperious necessities.

The Fifty Fathoms has played an essential role in the development of scuba diving and the discovery of the ocean world. It has enabled Blancpain to forge close links with the ocean community that have been consistently strengthened over the past 70 years. The Fifty Fathoms is the catalyst for Blancpain’s commitment to the preservation of the ocean.

Its innovative products and audio solutions create outstanding sound experiences for customers the world over. A shining example is Sennheiser’s audiophile reference model HD 800 S, cherished by audio enthusiasts for its brilliant sound reproduction and impressive spatiality. To celebrate 75 years of audio history, Sennheiser releases a collector’s edition limited to 750 units worldwide. THE EMBODIMENT OF 75 YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SOUND

Sennheiser releases special Anniversary Edition of acclaimed HD 800 S headphones

“Our 75-year history has not only been shaped by exceptional ideas and innovations, by taking on challenging projects and achieving numerous successes – above all, we are celebrating an enduring passion for great sound this year,” said Dr. Andreas Sennheiser, co-CEO of Sennheiser, who alongside his brother Daniel Sennheiser is the third generation of the family to manage the company. “Our reference headphones HD 800 S are a testament to this passion that has been driving us for 75 years. They are cherished by audiophiles all over the world, so we wanted to celebrate our anniversary with a collector’s edition of this very special model,” added Daniel Sennheiser, co-CEO.

Hearing the difference in every detail

Brilliant trebles, precise bass reproduction and a particularly clear sound image combined with a frequency range of 4 to 51,000 Hz make the HD 800 S a firm favorite among the audiophile community. The diaphragm of the headphones’ 56-mm transducer is made of Sennheiser’s patented duofol-transducer material to ensure exact music reproduction and reduction of resonances, keeping total harmonic distortion to less than 0.02 percent. Additionally, Sennheiser’s innovative absorber technology reduces the so called “masking effect”, an acoustic phenomenon that arises as the human ear is unable to perceive higher-pitched sounds that have low-volumes, while significantly louder sounds in a lower frequency range occur. The patented technology neutralizes the energy of the resonances, thus preventing any unwanted peaks in the frequency response and ensuring that even the finest nuances of music remain audible across the entire frequency range. The circum-aural earcups were developed with meticulous attention to detail as well, as the design directs the sound waves to the ears at a slight angle, thus creating an impressively natural and spatial sound experience.

Luxurious design for luxurious sound

The HD 800 S Anniversary Edition is handcrafted at the audio specialist’s headquarters in Wedemark, Germany. Sennheiser uses glass-fiber strengthened plastic, a material valued in the aerospace industry, for the headphones’ housing, making them particularly durable yet lightweight. The earpads are made from a soft vegan velour material for optimal wearing comfort, while the grid and grills have been crafted from a stainless-steel mesh. The matte gold yoke, decor ring and shell ring give the HD 800 S Anniversary Edition a uniquely elegant look that is every bit as exceptional as their sound. Each of the 750 units in the collector’s edition has its serial number laser-engraved on the headband.

The HD 800 S Anniversary Edition will be avaible from September 22 for 1,599 EUR at the Sennheiser webshop, Sennheiser stores and at selected retail partners.

Technics Announces the SL-1210GAE Limited Edition Direct Drive Turntable to Commemorate Its 55th Anniversary

Special and exclusive specifications of the SL-1210GAE 55th anniversary model

1. All-black colour scheme

The SL-1210GAE’s 10-mm-thick aluminium top panel sports a meticulously anodized black brushed hairline finish. In addition, the operation buttons and tonearm also employ a high quality black finish that results in a uniform, premium appearance.

2. Special badge inscribed with a serial number

The SL-1210GAE is wholly made in Japan by skilled artisans’ hands, with a significant level of hand-made processes to ensure the highest quality possible. The top panel features a special badge, inscribed with the unique serial number to signify that it is a 55th anniversary model.

3. Insulator

The specially developed zinc insulator features αGEL™, a soft gel-like material with excellent shock absorbing properties which is also used on the highly acclaimed, ‘flagship’ SL-1000R reference turntable. The high-density zinc die-cast housing offers superb vibration damping characteristics and excellent long-term reliability. The new insulator effectively isolates the turntable from external vibrations, ensuring completely undisturbed music reproduction whilst preserving every fine nuance and detail within the musical signal.

4. Strobe light ON-OFF switch

Turning off the strobe light allows the listener to concentrate more effectively on the music, especially in dimmed environment.

Product features of the SL-1210GAE

Coreless Direct Drive Motor

Conventional analogue turntables have problems with degradation in sound quality caused by factors such as minute speed vibration during rotation and rotation irregularity called “cogging.” In the SL-1210GAE, the use of a coreless direct-drive motor (with no iron core) eliminates cogging. Also, the twin-rotor construction reduces the bearing load whilst maintaining high torque, and also reduces minute vibration during rotation. These factors enable reproduction of the warm, high-level detailed sound available from analogue vinyl records.

High-Precision Motor Control Technology

The application of motor control technology developed for Blu-ray devices, and switching the drive mode depending on the operational status of the motor achieves a high starting torque and high speed stability for optimum playback.

Three-layered Turntable Platter

The turntable features a three-layered construction with a rigidly combined brass top-plate, an aluminium die cast core platter and a solid rubber coating covering its entire rear surface to eliminate unwanted resonance, thereby achieving overall superior rigidity and vibration damping. This delivers smooth rotational stability and high inertial mass surpassing the SP-10MK2 (the direct-drive turntable standard used by broadcast stations worldwide), as well as having more than twice the inertial mass of the SL-1200MK5.

High-level Balance Adjustment

When the weight distribution of the turntable is uneven, excess vibration or noise occurs during rotation, which causes degradation in sound quality. To counteract this, the balance of the turntable is adjusted at the factory by using specialised high-precision balance adjustment equipment for each and every item after the turntable is assembled. Turntables that have undergone adjustment are labelled with a sticker reading “BALANCED” to indicate that individual adjustment has been done.

High-Sensitivity Tonearm

The tonearm employs lightweight magnesium which has a high damping effect, with cold drawing improving the characteristics of the material and achieving the high-precision required. In addition, high initial-motion sensitivity is attained by employing the traditional Technics gimbal suspension construction with the horizontal rotation axis and the vertical rotation axis intersecting at a single central point, as well as high-precision bearings using a cut-processed housing.

High-Quality Terminals

The use of brass-milled and gold-plated phono terminals and ground terminals prevents degradation in sound quality while enabling the easy attaching and detaching of cables. Also the use of metal shielding construction inside the case reduces the effects of external noise.

Four-layered Cabinet Construction

A hairline-processed, 10-mm-thick black top panel of immaculate aluminium is added to a three-layered construction of aluminium die-cast, BMC(Bulk Moulding Compound), and heavyweight-class rubber. This four-layered construction combines high rigidity necessary for superb vibration damping with a superior solid build and a luxurious finish and feel..

FOUR SEASONS RESORT NEVIS CELEBRATES 29TH ANNIVERSARY WITH UNVEILING OF EXCLUSIVE NEW CROWNED MONKEY RUM

NEW CROWNED MONKEY RUM

Exclusive to crowned monkey RUM BAR, only one barrel of Crowned Monkey Rum was produced, yielding a total of 345 private label bottles. “Bottle 001,” which comes adorned with the original cask seal, is sure to become an instant collector’s item, giving the opportunity for rum lovers and long-time fans of Four Seasons Resort Nevis to purchase a piece of history.

“We wanted to create something special that spoke to the history of the property and its significance here in Nevis,” says Pasquo King, Director of Food and Beverage. “From its rich, caramel colour and light vanilla notes to the hints of aromatic floral scents that waft over the senses as it is poured into the glass, this is a rum that represents the legacy of the Resort while showcasing the history of the destination.”

Crowned Monkey Rum was produced by Foursquare Rum Distillery in Barbados and aged for 14 years in a single Jim Beam bourbon barrel. The rum spent its first eight years in the tropics before being transferred for five years to age in more temperate climates and finally returning to the region for its final year before its local hand filling, labelling and bottling in Nevis.

As an unfiltered rum, all of the wonderful oils developed over the years allow Crowned Monkey Rum to have a smooth and creamy mouth feel with notes of burnt caramel, hints of vanilla and light golden raisins, which gives it a delicate balance throughout with a sweet aftertaste on the finish of light toffee and even lighter honey and floral notes. The rum enjoys a wonderful prolonged finish that belies its 46% ABV, which also serves to elevate the balance between more flavour at more strength.

“It was important to get the right rum, something that was a smooth sipping rum,” said Mark Theron, Master Rum Blender. “The rum breathes life into the warm feel of the Caribbean and exemplifies craftsmanship making it the perfect addition to any rum collection.”

To symbolise Nevis, the Crowned Monkey Rum label was specifically designed to pay homage to the lush beauty of the Resort’s island home, as well as highlight the green vervet monkeys that are the unofficial ambassadors of the island and the namesake of the rum bar at Four Seasons. Aside from Bottle 001, guests can also purchase a bottle number that is significant to them for USD 288 or by the shot (45ml) for USD 22. The rum will also be available in the bar’s new signature cocktail, called The Peak. The drink stirs in vanilla sugar and cherry bitters to complement the rum before being smoked with cherry wood to enhance the flavour profiles.
