Bugatti Bolide voted the most beautiful hyper car of the year

The Bolide wins the “Hypercars” category at the 36th Festival Automobile International in Paris.

Molsheim/ Paris, 27 January 2021. With the presentation of the Bugatti Bolide1 last autumn, the French luxury brand Bugatti unveiled its most extreme car to date. Now the Bolide has been officially voted the most beautiful and aesthetic hyper sports car in the world. The Bugatti Bolide won the “Hypercars” category at the prestigious Festival Automobile International in Paris. An expert jury voted the experimental vehicle from Molsheim the most beautiful hyper sports car of 2020 by a substantial margin from a total of four finalists.

In its 36th year, the Festival Automobile International gave awards to cars from a range of categories according to their beauty, aesthetics, form and design. The expert judging panel was made up of 14 judges, chaired by the architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte and Anne Asensio, Vice President of Design Experience at Dassault Systèmes. The jury selected a winner in each of a total of 15 categories.

Since 1985, the Festival Automobile International has celebrated the automobile in its most beautiful, creative and exciting forms. The industry itself as well as the changes taking place within it are examined, and the trends analysed. The Festival is also committed to shining a spotlight on those men and women who make the car what it is each and every day, who transform it and adapt it to meet changes in society, environmental requirements, economic upheavals and geopolitical challenges. Each year, the Festival judges reward not only major innovations but also the bold ideas and talent of those involved in the automotive field.

“We are extraordinarily proud that the Festival Automobile International judges were as enthusiastic about the design of the Bugatti Bolide as Bugatti fans all around the world. The experiment to demonstrate the brute force of our W16 engine in a lightweight and high-performance car has resulted in a driving experience akin to riding on a cannonball. Bugatti Bolide

With the presentation of the Bolide in October 2020, Bugatti introduced the most extreme, uncompromising, fastest and lightest vehicle concept in the company’s recent history. The French luxury car manufacturer designed an ultra-lightweight shell around the iconic 8.0-litre W16 engine with up to 1,850 PS. Weighing just 1,240 kilograms, the Bolide achieves a phenomenal weight-to-power ratio of just 0.67 kilograms per PS. The top speed has been calculated at well over 500 km/h – without sacrificing maximum handling and agility.

“The Bugatti Bolide has been both the greatest joy and the greatest challenge of my 17-year career in Bugatti Design,” says Achim Anscheidt, Design Director at Bugatti. “Combining the extreme aerodynamic and thermodynamic requirements into a complete and integral expression of Bugatti’s unique DNA is the clearest demonstration of our motto ‘Form follows performance’. The fact that this sequential iteration between technical development and design has been recognised by the jury on a stylistic level is a source of enormous pride for the Bugatti design team, and we are extremely grateful for that.”

At the European Property Awards UDesign picked up the 5-star prize for Spain, winning Best Architecture Single Residence, Spain. They then went on to win Best in Europe in the same category at the finals of the 2019 International Property Awards.

We don’t design to win awards. We design because it’s what we do. The award is a vindication of what we have already done, a confirmation, if one were needed, that we have done it right. In that sense, it’s very important for us.

How did you get into architecture and interior design?

More accident than plan. When my wife and I bought an apartment, it had an upstairs space that wasn’t properly integrated with the rest of the apartment. So we designed it into a master bedroom suite and it quickly became a sort of showroom for the neighbours, who wanted something similar. It was all done sporadically. Before we knew it, I had a dozen clients all wanting us to design their various projects. We rented a small studio to make furniture, and it escalated from there. Our first employees were carpenters, not interior designers, so we started designing the furniture we couldn’t find anywhere else. Later we realised that rooms were not quite how we wanted them, so we started designing our own rooms, and then villas for those rooms.

Can good design be summed up in a single sentence?

Yes, but the complexity of good design may require various single sentences: Good design should make you feel good / A good designer creates spaces that provoke emotion / The most important ingredient in good design is natural light. And so on…

What do you think of Spain’s most famous architect, Santiago Calatrava?

Well, my passion is interiors. I like to look at the insides of buildings, in volumes of space, light, and how it affects space, and his Oculus building in the World Trade Centre station is very impressive in this respect. From the outside it’s a piece of great sculpture sitting in the middle of all those skyscrapers, isn’t it?

What do these awards mean for the entire architecture and design sector on the Costa del Sol?

You know that in Spain, unlike Britain or Ireland, a bar or restaurant increases in value if located close to other good bars and restaurants, because quality attracts quality. The same has happened here on the Costa del Sol with regard to architecture and design, especially in the Marbella area, and this win of ours has added to the upward spiral of excellence. A high degree of competition has been created, and with that the level of quality and design keeps increasing. 

So Marbella really is special?

Yes, it certainly is. It’s the place to be if you want to design and build high end luxury villas.  You would think that places like Los Angeles or Beverly Hills could rival Marbella, but they actually don’t. There are, of course, some of the most expensive properties in the world in these other areas, but there isn’t enough land there to build luxury villas in volume, while the mountains of Ronda and Benahavís still have plenty of available plots with breathtaking views. Now is a great time to be developing new projects here.

With each new project you have to let go and start all over again. How do you manage?

Design and architecture doesn’t feel like work for me. We try to attract clients so that we can continue to design, rather than design to attract clients. It’s all about new ideas and improving on quality and creativity. I almost never go to see my finished projects, because I only see all the things that could be better and get frustrated.  We go to design and architectural fairs to see something new and I think to myself: “This is an idea. I can integrate an improved version of this into my next project.” It’s a never-ending process, and that’s what keeps it exciting.

What’s next for Bright?

Believe it or not, the other day I was thinking even bigger than a single development. I got thinking about a whole community with hotel, shops, bars, restaurants, golf course and everything else, all developed by Bright. Who knows what the future holds?

The next generation of television display technology is ready for the home out of the box with the unveil of Samsung’s 110’’ MicroLED in Korea

Samsung Electronics announced the launch and pre-sale of the groundbreaking 110” Samsung MicroLED beginning today in Korea. Unlike any other displays currently available on the market, Samsung MicroLED delivers astonishing color vibrancy and brightness with self-emissive LED display technology.

In 2018, Samsung’s first MicroLED display was introduced in the form of “The Wall”— a system of configurable modules that could be installed professionally. With the new 110” MicroLED, Samsung is delivering the MicroLED experience in a traditional TV form for the first time. Unlike its modular counterpart, installation and calibration is streamlined since the new 110” MicroLED model is prefabricated — offering stunning video, audio, and smart capabilities out of the box.

In the past year, consumer interest and demand for large screen TVs has continued to grow rapidly. With the launch of the 110’’ MicroLED, Samsung offers a breathtaking visual experience on an ultra-large next-generation TV display.

Innovative Engineering Delivers Next-Level Picture Quality

Ultra-large screen enthusiasts want excellent picture quality with vibrant colors and stunning resolution. With Samsung’s latest engineering innovations, the 110’’ MicroLED uses micrometer-sized LED lights to eliminate the backlight and color filters utilized in conventional displays. Instead, it is self-illuminating—producing light and color from its own pixel structures. It expresses 100% of the DCI and Adobe RGB color gamut, and accurately delivers wide color gamut images taken with high-end DSLR cameras. This results in stunning, lifelike colors and accurate brightness from the display’s 4K resolution and 8 million pixels.

The 110’’ MicroLED also has a processor powerful enough to live up to its display capabilities. Its all-new Micro AI Processor delivers stunning 4K HDR content — resulting in bright, vivid, realistic picture quality that is optimized to each scene.

What’s more, the 110” MicroLED makes that stunning picture quality last for the long term. MicroLEDs are made of inorganic materials which are long-lasting and durable — allowing a lifespan of up to 100,000 hours, or over a decade.

Previously, mass-producing a MicroLED screen as small as 110’’ for simple home installation wasn’t possible. But Samsung innovated to make it a reality by developing cutting-edge surface mount technology — along with a new production process derived from its semiconductor business — making MicroLED technology easier to manufacture, deliver, and install. These same innovations will allow Samsung to produce even smaller MicroLED models in the future, so even more consumers can enjoy the breathtaking MicroLED experience.

Immersive Design and Premium Audio

When you turn on the 110’’ MicroLED, you are treated to a spectacularly immersive experience thanks to its 99.99% screen-to-body ratio. The black matrix and bezel have been completely removed from the display — leaving only the screen, delivering consumers the most immersive content experience.

Samsung has innovated and optimized its Smart TV features to take advantage of the 110” MicroLED’s massive screen. For example, consumers can use the Multi View feature to comfortably watch up to four sources of content simultaneously on up to 55’’ sized split screens. When using this feature, the viewers can connect multiple external devices and enjoy watching news, movies, and other apps simultaneously on one screen — so they can keep up with multiple sports at once, or stream a walkthrough while playing a video game, all in stunning quality and size.

Custom Acoustic Design

From the canopy to the ear cushions, every part of AirPods Max is carefully crafted to provide exceptional acoustic performance for each user. The breathable knit mesh canopy, spanning the headband, is made to distribute weight and reduce on-head pressure. The stainless steel headband frame provides strength, flexibility, and comfort for a wide variety of head shapes and sizes. Telescoping headband arms smoothly extend and stay in place to maintain the desired fit.
Each ear cup attaches to the headband through a revolutionary mechanism that balances and distributes ear cup pressure, and allows it to independently pivot and rotate to fit the unique contours of a user’s head. Each ear cushion uses acoustically engineered memory foam to create an effective seal — a critical factor in delivering immersive sound. The Digital Crown, inspired by Apple Watch, offers precise volume control and the ability to play or pause audio, skip tracks, answer or end phone calls, and activate Siri.

Using the gyroscope and accelerometer in AirPods Max and iPhone or iPad, spatial audio tracks the motion of a user’s head as well as the device, compares the motion data, then remaps the sound field so it stays anchored to the device, even as the user’s head moves.
