What’s in Future Lab at the 2022 Festival of Speed

The 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard is just days away and we’re incredibly excited for everyone to see what’s in store. In addition to the unrivalled roster of cars, bikes, drivers and riders, Future Lab presented by Randox brings a new dimension, a look at the future of mobility in the air, on land, under the sea and deep into space. So given that Future Lab is bigger than ever this year, we thought we’d highlight a few exhibits you simply mustn’t miss.

E1 powerboats

The UIM E1 World Championship Series will be the first racing series for electric powerboats, with grids of RaceBird vessels taking to waters at iconic city locations to do battle. A full-size model will be on display at FOS Future Lab, while visitors will be able to sit in a representative cockpit and have a go in an advanced simulator to experience E1 in the virtual world.

Saab SeaEye

Saab Seaeye provides incredible, remotely-operated vehicles for ocean exploration and industrial purposes. A number of these underwater robots will be on display, including the Sabretooth, which is the vehicle that found the Endurance, Sir Ernest Shackleton’s vessel that sank in the Antarctic 107 years ago. The Saab Sabretooth had to descend 3,000 metres in pitch black frozen waters in search of this legendary vessel, finding it in good condition, with ‘Endurance’ still proudly and clearly emblazoned on its stern. This robot, like Endurance itself, is now an important piece of history and a testament to the potential of robotics in the exploration

Northern Light Motors

Meanwhile in the comfort of our cities and on our roads, Northern Light Motors want to revolutionise personal transport, and not with some anonymous pod you have to share. This is high-end car design crossing paths with environmentally friendly future mobility. The designer is the man who penned the TVR Sagaris and that flair is obvious in the NLM. This in spite of the fact it’s an electrically-augmented three-wheeled eBike and not a 400PS supercar. The company will be debuting the fully production-ready versions of these awesome little machines in the Future Lab. We can’t wait to see them in person.

eSkootr

Joining the E1 electric boat series as a brand-new motorised sport on show at Future Lab is eSkootr, a championship for electric scooter racing. The series reimagines racing as a platform for future sustainable urban mobility. A number of quirks of the sport include the fact that it’s due to never return to the same city twice and that race riders will come from a variety of different sports. You’ll be able to see one of the eSkootrs on display in Future Lab, while visitors can also try Electrik City, a VR experience where you can watch eSkootr races with an Unreal Engine simulation. Riders will also be riding them up the Hill on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Teslasuit

From the future of transport, to the metaverse – the Teslasuit is here to transport your whole body to the virtual world. Not actually any relation to the Tesla of the motoring world, the Teslasuit is, however, arguably as sophisticated. Full body haptics, motion capture and biometric sensors make up a platform that can be used for everything from F1 driver simulations, to safety or fitness training and body monitoring. At Future Lab, a Teslasuit demo will be available where visitors can experience this incredible full-body tech.

Interstellar Lab

How do you grow food in space? This is a question Interstellar Lab is trying to answer. With the revolutionary BioPod it can create conditions to grow pretty much anything, anywhere on Earth. The next step is taking that tech into space, to the Moon, Mars and possibly beyond. At Future Lab, you’ll be able to take part in a VR experience exploring one of these BioPods and what they can do.

Airspeeder

Airspeeder is the world’s first electric VTOL flying race series, dubbed ‘the F1 of the skies’. Pilotted E-VTOLs with eight motors and four rotors will be battling it out on virtual circuits in our skies soon but for now, at Future Lab, you’ll be able to take part in a VR driver experience. You’ll also be able to see an Airspeeder Mk3 race car in person when it’s on display on the maker’s stand.

All of these exciting experiences and much more will be there to enjoy as Future Lab opens at the 2022 Festival of Speed. We’re excited to show you the future of mobility and beyond, as well as its present and past.

Design Essentials IV – The Art of Creating Desire, 2022, Nice: Vision AMG

Design Essentials IV – The Art of Creating Desire, 2022, Nice: Vision AMG

Design Essentials IV – The Art of Creating Desire, 2022, Nizza: Vision AMG

Design Essentials IV – The Art of Creating Desire, 2022, Nizza: Vision AMG

Design Essentials IV – The Art of Creating Desire, 2022, Nice: Vision AMG

Design Essentials IV – The Art of Creating Desire, 2022, Nice: Vision AMG

Design Essentials IV – The Art of Creating Desire, 2022, Nice: Vision AMG

Design Essentials IV – The Art of Creating Desire, 2022, Nizza: Vision AMG

Design Essentials IV – The Art of Creating Desire, 2022, Nizza: Vision AMG

Design Essentials IV – The Art of Creating Desire, 2022, Nizza: Vision AMG

AUDEMARS PIGUET BUILDS THE FUTURE WITH TWO NEW MODULAR BUILDINGS

Le Brassus, November 9, 2021 – Swiss Haute Horlogerie manufacturer Audemars Piguet invests in the future with two contemporary and modular production sites able to adapt to the company’s evolving needs. While the Manufacture des Saignoles recently welcomed its employees in Le Locle after three years of construction work, Audemars Piguet just laid the first stone of its new building, named the “Arc”, adjacent to the Manufacture des Forges in Le Brassus. These two large-scale architectural projects embody Audemars Piguet’s sustainable approach and work culture requiring ever more flexibility and modularity. The two buildings also highlight the brand’s dedication to innovative architectures both integrated into and respectful of their environment.

A CUTTING-EDGE ARCHITECTURE INTEGRATED INTO THE SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENT
Situated in Le Locle, the Manufacture des Saignoles hosts the workshops of Audemars Piguet Le Locle – previously known as Renaud & Papi – which specialises in complicated watch mechanisms. The new manufacturing site, whose construction work started in 2018 and ended in the spring 2021, consists of a 10,400 square-metre one-storey building spread on several split levels that have been adapted to the topography and to suit industrial flows. The new building seamlessly integrates the relief of the valley and draws inspiration from the surrounding meadows, boglands and forests. Conceived by the Swiss architect office Kuník de Morsier, it combines employees’ well-being and comfort, while giving prominence to natural light and new technologies. The building features large bay windows made of SageGlass®, a cost and energy-efficient electrochromic glass that tints automatically depending on natural light. In addition to filling each workshop with light, this type of glass ensures thermal regulation all year long and offers full view of the surrounding landscape. This “light architecture” has been developed in collaboration with Marilyne Andersen, Professor of Sustainable Construction Techniques at EPFL, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne. Her expertise in natural-light well-being was utilised to develop workspaces responding to the specific needs of each occupation.

In Le Brassus, the construction of the Arc, conceived by Swiss office De Giuli & Portier Architectes, has been entrusted to Steiner SA. This new U-shaped building will spread on a surface of 17,000 square metres divided between 3 floors and a basement where the technical rooms are located. In addition, the Arc will be connected to the current Manufacture des Forges.

Together, the two buildings will reunite under one roof all of Audemars Piguet’s industrial sites currently spread across the Vallée de Joux. Construction work started in the spring of 2021 and is planned to finish in 2025. Envisioned as an evolving project, the building allows long-term flexibility thanks to its modular layout and anticipates the company’s future needs. At the leading edge of technology, the Arc also privileges daylight thanks to electrochromic SageGlass® windows. This new construction aligns with Audemars Piguet’s commitment to promoting an architecture that is both avant-garde and respectful of its environment.
“Born in Le Brassus, raised around the world.”

EARTH 300 RESEARCH SUPERYACHT

Earth 300.
On a Mission.

Our ambition for Earth 300 was fearless from the start: we wanted to build the Olympic Torch of global science, to expand our knowledge and understanding of the universe, both above and below the ocean’s surface.

The result is a collaborative, next-generation platform for state-of-the-art science at sea. Our radical design – iconic, intelligent, aesthetically-pleasing – is intentional. It’s a 300-metre fabrication of the future. The 13-storey Science Sphere and cantilevered Observation Deck are the most obvious and eye-catching examples.

Carbon Free

One hundred percent emission free.

We have a choice of what kind of difference we want to make in the world. One of the choices we need to make is to become carbon free. We’ve found a way to get there.

It’s called the Molten Salt Reactor, a new generation of atomic energy that’s safe, sustainable and 100% emission free. The marine version of the Molten Salt Reactor will be small, with few moving parts, and provides the sustainable, clean energy needed to move ocean transportation into the future. Earth 300 is the first research vessel to be pursuing this revolutionary new technology.

EARTH 300 RESEARCH SUPERYACHT

EARTH 300 RESEARCH SUPERYACHT

Collaboration

Working together for the world.

Earth 300 represents an unparalleled opportunity for academia and private enterprise to collaborate on the most pressing challenges of our time. We’re bringing 160 of the brightest minds into our Science Sphere and equipping them with a level of technology never before seen on an ocean-going research vessel.

Science First

Science always.

We believe that scientists deserve to be treated like rock-stars, because they are; they are the ones who are at the frontlines of all discovery and advancement, they invent vaccines and protect our health; they allow us to move humanity forward.

Advanced Capabilities

Sea the future.

Oceans are our future. They are the beating heart of the planet, regulating everything from crops to climate to providing us with every second breath we take.

Our vessel promises to reframe what a floating research laboratory can achieve. The capabilities that our scientists will have at their disposal are exceptional: artificial intelligence, robotics, machine learning, real time data processing. We will also have the latest quantum computer on board, the first to take to the high seas.

Education

Citizen science.

We are combining exploration with education so that consumers become contributors. The interaction is immediate and constant. Imagine embarking on one of the most exhilarating and meaningful voyages of a lifetime where you’ll witness the cutting edge of science – you’re sitting under the tree with Newton when the apple falls, you’re walking on the moon with Armstrong and Aldrin, you’re holding Galileo’s telescope with one hand and a fine libation with the other. You will create and imagine with some of the most eminent thinkers of the day. You’ll make history.

Next Generation

Future proofing.

We love life and want to ensure that humanity survives the future. It’s why we are representing tomorrow by setting aside berths for some of the world’s most promising young students. We want to inspire and empower the next generation of global leaders to step up and help lead us into the future.

Its design is anchored by the Hideaway Hinge, which fits seamlessly into the device body with the CAM mechanism and enables free standing capabilities2 that power all new Flex mode experiences. Galaxy Z Fold2 also employs sweeper technology, first introduced on the Galaxy Z Flip, within the gap between the body and hinge housing to repel dust and undesirable particles. As Galaxy Z Fold2 features a third-generation refined design, the space for the sweeper structure is even smaller than on the Galaxy Z Flip. To achieve this, Samsung developed new innovative sweeper technology to achieve the same level of protection in a smaller space. The Galaxy Z Fold2 Hideaway Hinge features revolutionary slim cutting technology, modified fiber composition and adjusted fiber density.
  • Customizable to Match Your Style – For those looking to stand out even more, Samsung is offering an online tool to customize your Galaxy Z Fold2 with four distinct Hideaway Hinge colors – Metallic Silver, Metallic Gold, Metallic Red, and Metallic Blue. Now you can create the Galaxy Z Fold2 that perfectly complements your unique style, adding a personalized touch to premium design.

Capture and View Exactly How You Want

The innovative foldable form factor and its sophisticated design are taken to the next level with unique mobile experiences on the Galaxy Z Fold2. The Galaxy Z Fold2 pairs Flex mode4 with App Continuity5 to provide expanded usability, crossing the boundary between the Cover and Main Screen. This flexibility enables you to create or view content that is curated to your exact preferences, from folded to unfolded.

  • A Device That is as Flexible and Productive as You Are – With Flex mode, it’s now easier than ever to capture content and review in real time. With Capture View Mode,6 now you won’t have to leave the Camera app. Clearly see the photo or video you just took or review up to five of your most recent captures on the bottom half of the Main Screen, and the preview of your next shot will be on the top half. Or take your creativity one step further with Auto framing.7 Whether you’re jumping in on the latest social dance or showing off your cooking skills, the Galaxy Z Fold2 can record hands-free video and keep the subject in focus even when it moves.
  • Features to Support Your Creativity – Rethink content capturing by incorporating both the photographer and subject’s perspective into getting the shot. Using the Main and Cover Screen at the same time with Dual Preview, both parties can see what’s being captured. What’s more, thanks to the Galaxy Z Fold2’s flexibility, take a high-quality selfie with the rear cameras with the Cover Screen acting as the viewfinder.
  • Flagship Camera Features – The Galaxy Z Fold2’s camera also offers flagship-level camera quality and control. With Pro Video mode,8 Single Take,9 Bright Night10 and Night Mode, the Galaxy Z Fold2 helps you capture the moment in stunning quality.

Maximize Every Moment

The Galaxy Z Fold2 aligns next generation mobile productivity with advanced multitasking capabilities thanks to new intuitive ways to interact. Get the most out of your day by tailoring the Galaxy Z Fold2’s tablet-sized Main Screen to fit in with your working style.

  • Seamless Multitasking – Use advanced Multi-Active Window11 to control your screen layout with more ease and flexibility. Experience more productivity now that you can open multiple files from the same app at the same time and view them side by side.12 With an improved Multi-Window Tray, you can open multiple apps at once with the integration of App Pair and the Edge Panel to enjoy added convenience. With drag and drop,13 you can simply drag text, images and documents from one app to another for instant transfer. Or quickly screen capture in one app and transfer the captured image into another seamlessly with Split Screen Capture.
  • Optimized App Interactions to Support Your Flow – Choose the most optimized UI on the Main Screen to suit your needs. Quickly and easily switch layouts between a large screen layout or traditional phone layout in the Settings.14
  • Optimized App Display– Maximize every moment in your daily life and upgrade the viewing experience of your favorite apps, including Gmail, YouTube and Spotify. Use the Main Screen with Office apps in Microsoft 365 to mimic the tablet experience. For example, use Microsoft Outlook to its true potential by viewing your inbox on the left side with current conversations at the same time. Draft Word documents, Excel spreadsheets or PowerPoint presentations with PC-like toolbar arrangements
