PHARRELL

The man from another planet

Maybe the word that best sums up Pharrell Williams is ‘universal’ —in every sense of the term. A deep link to the cosmos is something he felt very early on. No surprise, then, that Pharrell grew up a major fan of Star Trek, as anyone will know who has seen him use a Vulcan salute when conveying the name of his label, Star Trak. He has never made any secret of his fascination for the cosmos, or of the deep sense of spirituality he derives from it, of the wholeness at the centre of things.

Conjuring the visions, fantasies, and other imaginary projections of the brand’s partners is a familiar quest for Richard Mille, one that begins all over with every new adventure. A truly artistic project, the development of the RM 52-05 is special for the way it hinges on interpreting an idea, a symbol and a desire. This last has taken the form of a tourbillon whose originality lies in its astonishingly multidisciplinary techniques.

TAG HEUER EQUIPS ICONIC MONACO WRISTWATCH WITH AVANT-GARDE IN-HOUSE MANUFACTURE MOVEMENT

Combining innovation with its passion for precision timekeeping, TAG Heuer launched the Calibre Heuer 02, an in-house movement developed and manufactured in Switzerland, in 2017. This important automatic chronograph movement is now available inside a Monaco case – one of the brand’s most iconic products, and one that reflects TAG Heuer’s daring and unconventional spirit. Because of the Monaco’s unique square shape – a feature that renders this timepiece instantly recognisable – TAG Heuer’s watchmakers had to re-engineer the interior of the case to house the manufacture calibre. In addition to this change, the new Monaco also features a slightly revamped dial, which is clearly inspired by early Monaco models. It is also different from the Calibre 11 Monaco design, which features the crown on the left side of the case due to the construction of its movement.

Monaco Calibre 12 Final Edition

In contrast to the movement that initially equipped the Monaco – Calibre 11 – the Calibre 12 gave the renowned timepiece a sleek, traditional appearance, because it required the crown to be on the right side of the case, as opposed to the left side as with Calibre 11. TAG Heuer introduces the last Calibre 12 Monaco model with a stunning grey dial. Outfitted with a classic black alligator leather strap, this stainless-steel model features a vertically brushed ruthenium dial. Ruthenium, RU44 on the periodic table, is part of the platinum group and has a dynamic iridescent colour that changes in different shades of light.

The smooth black opaline counters at 3 and 9 o’clock offer a refined contrast to the brushed dial. The central seconds hand, 12 o’clock index, and the tips of the hour and minute hands feature a hint of bold red, an eye-catching feature that enhances the timeless yet modern style of this horological icon. As the final edition of the Monaco Calibre 12, only 1,000 of these models exist and the stainless-steel caseback of each watch is engraved with its limited-edition number.

After 50 years, the Monaco continues to surprise and innovate. With every new launch, this iconic timepiece embodies different facets of TAG Heuer’s avant-garde spirit and strengthens its reputation as one of the watch world’s most remarkable creations.

The latest chapter in Harry Winston’s unique Métiers d’Art saga takes place in Italy, in the historic city of Ravenna, known worldwide for its mosaics.

Harry Winston unveils its 2019 Métiers d’Art

Precious gemstones are synonymous with Harry Winston, and so are precious art forms, like the spectacular mosaic glass setting on the dials of the six new Métiers d’Art timepieces from the House. An inimitable luxury made by hand in Ravenna, Italy, the vibrant dials are highlighted with quintessential Harry Winston diamonds in an artistic marriage that is destined to shine for a lifetime.

An ancient art, mosaics are made from small pieces of colored glass, ceramic, stone or other materials known collectively as tesserae. The tesserae are then applied on an adhesive surface to create a design. Widely used in Ancient Greece and Rome, the art of mosaic flourished under the Byzantine Empire. Ravenna, the capital city of the Roman Empire in the 5th century, and then Byzantine Italy through the 8th century, took the art of mosaic to unprecedented levels, creating masterpieces for the local walls and ceilings of the early Christian monuments.

Finding new and original ways to animate timepiece dials is a true passion at Harry Winston, whose designers turned to the impressive art of glass micromosaic for their newest Premier timepiece. The six unique models feature timeless handcrafted dials that juxtapose bold color palettes with contrasting fragments of translucent and opaque glass, to create designs that are fascinating and unique.

Powered by a high-end Swiss mechanical automatic movement, the Premier Precious Micromosaic and Premier Precious Peacock timepieces are presented in both 18-karat white and 18-karat rose gold cases, and each dial composition is limited to just 30 pieces.
