BUGATTI BOLIDE ENTERS NEXT PHASE OF TESTING

When the Bolide was first revealed as a thought experiment in late 2020, it presented a vision of a lightweight, track-only hyper sports car delivering incomparable performance, built around the iconic W16 engine. That ambitious dream is being transformed into reality, as the Bolide prototype begins its next phase of development testing.

At The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering in August 2021, Bugatti announced that the Bolide1 would be developed for a limited production run of just 40 units. Centered on the premise of creating the ultimate track-only Bugatti and set to be the most uncompromising model to ever emerge from Molsheim, it represents an entirely new level of engineering, aerodynamic and technological innovation.

For the Bolide, Bugatti started with the quad-turbo W16 engine, and then built the lightest possible car around it. Its minimal bodywork is designed carefully to leverage maximum downforce, most efficient cooling and exceptional power-to-weight ratio. In its final form, the Bolide is expected to deliver 1,600 PS and a dry weight of only 1,450 kg to better the magical 1:1 ratio.

Christophe Piochon, President of Bugatti Automobiles, said: “The Bolide is treading new ground for Bugatti. Never before has such a powerful engine been paired with an ultra-lightweight design to create a track car that delivers motorsport levels of performance. Almost every component has been analyzed and redesigned to ensure Bolide is as light, capable and reliable as our strict targets require it to be. The next phase of development is a major milestone in the creation of a car that takes Bugatti’s “form follows performance” philosophy to a new level.”

Creating the Bolide is a case of bespoke craftsmanship. Although the engine may be familiar in its layout and capacity, it is integrated into the Bolide in a fully different way. A newly shaped carbon monocoque compared with Chiron2 meant re-engineering many components, including cooling, transmission and suspension, each of which now had to be packaged within the incredibly compact and aerodynamic design of Bolide, with a matter of millimeters to spare. With new engine mountings, the suspension of Bolide’s drive unit is three times stiffer than the Chiron’s. Together with the uniball suspension bearings, the Bolide gives the driver even more precise feedback. The Bolide also uses 3D-printed titanium rockers to help create intricately shaped and lightweight components.

The engine itself is central to the Bolide experience, but subtly adapted for this car’s unique character. It always operates on all four of its turbochargers – perfect for the racetrack where engine revs are consistently high, but also for weight and packaging reasons. The team has tuned the engine to deliver higher revs per minute and successfully paired it to a modified transmission designed to deliver even sharper performance.

The braking system offers entirely new levels of performance and innovation. In the Chiron, the brakes are an effective and long-lasting carbon ceramic system but the Bolide uses even more heat-resistant carbon-carbon brakes. These must be thoroughly warmed before they reach their peak effectiveness so Bugatti engineers designed completely new calipers that would more efficiently generate and absorb heat. With 18-inch tires, 390 mm brake discs were created and a carbon cover placed on each wheel to help protect the rims from the extreme heat generated by the brakes.

Befitting its status as a track car with the performance of a top-level motorsport machine, the Bolide is fitted with slick tires which – at the rear – can only be found on LMDh vehicles racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship. Thanks to tire manufacturer Michelin’s long-standing partnership with Bugatti, these tires can be used for the Bolide.

First deliveries of the Bolide will commence in 2024, with production limited to just 40 units at a net unit price of four million euros each.

Invencible y Auténtica rinden homenaje a las obras maestras del diseño de Lamborghini: el Sesto Elemento, un homenaje a la ligereza y el automovilismo caracterizado por un gran alerón trasero; el Reventón con su estilo aeronáutico único; y el Veneno, que lleva al extremo la búsqueda de la perfección aerodinámica.

“Hemos creado dos autos únicos con su propio carácter único, inspirados en los días de pista y el entorno de circuito de alto octanaje”, dijo  Mitja Borkert, directora de diseño de Automobili Lamborghini. “Están diseñados  por Lamborghini Centro Stile, ejerciendo la máxima creatividad sobre la plataforma V12. Estos diseños únicos se basan en nuestro ADN de diseño único y, una vez más, elevan nuestra herencia de diseño a un nuevo nivel”.

Ambos autos nuevos comparten el mismo monocasco de fibra de carbono del Aventador, producido en Sant’Agata Bolognese, junto con una carrocería completamente de carbono que incorpora diseño y tecnologías probadas con éxito por Lamborghini en el automovilismo. El imponente capó repite el del Essenza SCV12, junto con el divisor frontal pronunciado completo con puntales verticales diseñados para administrar el flujo de aire de la manera más eficiente.

El hexágono, un motivo bien conocido del diseño moderno de Lamborghini, se integra de manera armoniosa pero llamativa en los elementos visuales distintivos del automóvil, comenzando con el llamativo conjunto de luces delanteras y traseras resaltado por innovadoras luces LED hexagonales. En el capó, las tomas de aire recuerdan a las del Sesto Elemento, y las mismas señales se repiten en el triple escape central con puntas de Inconel: una aleación especial de acero de alto rendimiento derivada de la industria aeroespacial.

El interior de ambos coches está dominado por líneas limpias, con un salpicadero minimalista realzado por salidas de aire hexagonales impresas en 3D y sin instrumentación en la consola, para subrayar la ligereza de la cabina y centrar la atención en el puro placer de conducir. La cabina en sí está enmarcada en fibra de carbono, con una lectura digital que presenta gráficos dedicados para cada automóvil.

El Invencible coupé se caracteriza por el sutil contraste entre el tono dominante de rojo y los elementos con aspecto de carbono realzados por “copos” rojos. La carrocería del Rosso Efesto se complementa con umbrales y marcos de las puertas de carbono, al igual que las pinzas de freno del Rosso Mars, que se asientan detrás de ruedas de una sola tuerca con carenados de fibra de carbono para ventilar el conjunto de frenos. En las clásicas puertas de tijera, hay dos tricolores hexagonales prominentes: un homenaje a la bandera italiana que se repite en los revestimientos de las puertas y en el volante.

El interior, en el mismo color que la carrocería, contrasta con el cuero Rosso Alala y Nero Cosmus Alcantara, acentuado por bordados personalizados en Rosso Alala y Nero Ade. El salpicadero presenta un logotipo de Lamborghini en Rosso Efesto: el mismo color que se utiliza para las levas de cambio de marchas en el volante.

En una línea similar, manteniendo su carácter verdaderamente único, el roadster Auténtica presenta una carrocería en Grigio Titans con detalles en Matt Black y una decoración Giallo Auge: un color que se repite en las pinzas de freno, así como en los principales elementos aerodinámicos. Estos incluyen el divisor delantero y el alerón trasero derivado de los deportes de motor que optimiza la carga aerodinámica, flanqueado por un par de aletas. El perfil del automóvil se vuelve único gracias a dos cúpulas con barras antivuelco integradas, inspiradas en los autos de carreras descapotables del pasado. El interior al aire libre cuenta con elegantes bordados en Giallo Taurus, con tapicería de cuero Nero Ade en contraste y Nero Cosmus bicolor y Grigio Octans Alcantara.

El Invencible y el Auténtica son los últimos automóviles producidos por Lamborghini equipados con un motor de 12 cilindros y 6,5 l montado longitudinalmente en la parte trasera (Longitudinale Posteriore: ‘LP’) antes de la transición a una era híbrida. El saludo final al tren motriz Lamborghini V12 saliente ofrece 780 CV y ​​un par máximo de 720 Nm a 6.750 rpm, acoplado a una caja de cambios ISR de siete velocidades, tracción en las cuatro ruedas y el sistema Lamborghini Dynamic Steering que controla las cuatro ruedas.

En el espléndido marco de la Sala del Cenacolo, rodeada de dibujos originales de Leonardo da Vinci, la última creación del taller de Módena diseñada por Horacio Pagani encarna una visión utópica y visionaria del automovilismo, un concepto no convencional separado románticamente del significado contemporáneo de automóvil. Comisariada por Pagani Automobili y Pietro C. Marani, un destacado experto en Leonardo da Vinci y autor de numerosos libros sobre el artista toscano, la exposición ofrece a los visitantes la oportunidad de una exploración dual. Por un lado, el asombroso genio de un hombre con la capacidad -hace seis siglos- de representar hasta lo invisible, plasmado en una colección de hojas del Codex Atlanticus sobre el estudio del aire y sus aplicaciones; por otro, el pensamiento que llevó al diseñador Horacio Pagani y su equipo a concebir el proyecto Utopía. Una visión binaria de forma y función.

“La presentación de nuestro nuevo automóvil en el marco extraordinario del Museo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología de Milán tiene un significado especial”, dice Horacio Pagani. “Leonardo fue muy creativo aquí en Milán, donde disfrutó de un período maravilloso. La ruta creativa llega a su punto culminante en la Sala del Cenacolo para ver de cerca el nuevo Pagani Hypercar. Desde el exterior, una carrocería de líneas suaves y elegantes construida en materiales compuestos de alta tecnología; en el interior, el poderoso corazón del motor Pagani V12.

“Un hilo conecta las observaciones de Leonardo y sus conocimientos sobre aerodinámica con las creaciones de Horacio Pagani”, comenta Pietro C. Marani. “Es como si el diseñador finalmente hubiera dado forma concreta a lo que Leonardo simplemente intuyó sobre la forma en que el aire ‘forja’ y esculpe formas, que se puede ver, por ejemplo, en los dos dibujos de fortalezas de la exposición”.

La exposición se enriquece con una sección titulada “Historia de un sueño”, la aventura del joven Horacio Pagani que llegó a Módena desde Argentina con una ambición: crear los autos más bellos del mundo. Los invitados podrán juzgar por sí mismos si ese sueño se hizo realidad: en los claustros, junto con el nuevo Pagani Utopia, se exhibirán dos modelos históricos -el Zonda C12 (1999) y el Huayra Coupé (2011)- para contar la historia de una marca que pronto celebrará su 25 aniversario.

El acompañamiento musical de la exposición es una interesante obra sinfónica escrita por el Conservatorio de Milán a partir de las composiciones para piano del joven Horacio Pagani, que ahora es la banda sonora de la nueva Utopía de Pagani.

Milan, 13 September 2022 – Italy’s National Science & Technology Museum in central Milan is the venue for the official debut of the new Pagani Hypercar, the vehicle that will write the third chapter in the brand’s history, with the title: Pagani Utopia. In the splendid setting of the Sala del Cenacolo refectory hall, surrounded by original drawings by Leonardo da Vinci, the Modena-based atelier’s latest creation designed by Horacio Pagani embodies a visionary utopian idea of motoring, an unconventional concept romantically detached from the contemporary meaning of automobile. And it does so in the purest Pagani spirit, where the guiding element underpinning the company’s cars has always been Leonardo’s principle of Art and Science.

No better location could have been chosen to present the new arrival: Milan, the cosmopolitan city that was home to the artist, and the Museum that houses the Leonardo Galleries, the world’s largest permanent exhibition on Leonardo da Vinci – engineer, humanist and scholar of nature.

“At the entrance to the Museum, the visitor is welcomed by a phrase with a profound significance: Scienza è Cultura – Science is Culture. The expression represents the very essence of the Museum as a place dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci and, like the artist himself, condenses the interrelations between different but complementary branches of knowledge, which, together, help us understand reality. This dialogue between art, science and technology is a distinguishing feature of the Museum’s identity. Furthermore, the discovery and invention that never cease to surprise us are combined with the fundamental ability to design and build, thus giving concrete value to human ingenuity,” says Fiorenzo Galli, General Manager of the National Science & Technology Museum.

Enhancing the ties between the design of Pagani Hypercars and Leonardo da Vinci is an exceptional loan from the Biblioteca Ambrosiana, which, for the presentation of the new car, has granted permission for six original drawings of Leonardo’s studies on air, to leave its vaults on a temporary basis for the exhibition “The shape of air: from Leonardo to Pagani Utopia”.

Curated by Pagani Automobili and Pietro C. Marani, a leading expert on Leonardo da Vinci and author of numerous books about the Tuscan artist, the exhibition offers visitors the opportunity for dual exploration. On one hand, the astonishing genius of a man with the ability – six centuries ago – to represent even the invisible, displayed in a collection of leaves from the Codex Atlanticus on the study of air and its applications; on the other, the thinking that led designer Horacio Pagani and his team to conceive the Utopia project.  A binary vision of form and function.

“The presentation of our new car in the extraordinary setting of the National Science & Technology Museum in Milan has a special significance,” says Horacio Pagani. “Leonardo was very creative here in Milan, where he enjoyed a wonderful period. He has been a huge influence in my life since I was a boy, he is the inspiration for the fundamental concepts of Art and Science that guide our work. So to be in the museum that bears his name and to have his original drawings next to our car is a truly indescribable emotion for me.”

Visitors will be able to trace the genesis of the Pagani Utopia project on a series of special panels: from the sources of inspiration to the first sketches of the car, the colour palette and the materials used, condensed in a three-dimensional moodboard. The creative route reaches its culmination in the Sala del Cenacolo for a close-up look at the new Pagani Hypercar. From the outside, a body with soft, elegant lines built in hi-tech composite materials; inside, the powerful heart of the Pagani V12 engine.

Providing the ideal frame for the new Pagani Utopia are the six original Da Vinci drawings selected by Marani. Six works that highlight how the artist was able to represent the invisible, to depict “the existence of nothingness”, that infinite interstitial extension that surrounds all bodies, in contact with the air. Together with water, air is one of the four elements (including earth and fire) that most intrigued Leonardo, whose movements and manifestations he strove to portray.

“A thread links Leonardo’s observations and his insights into aerodynamics with the creations of Horacio Pagani,” comments Pietro C. Marani. “It’s as if the designer had finally given concrete shape to what Leonardo simply intuited about the way the air ‘forges’ and sculpts forms, which you can see, for example, in the two drawings of fortresses in the exhibition.” 

The exhibizion is enhanced with a section entitled “Story of a Dream”, the adventure of the young Horacio Pagani who came to Modena from Argentina with an ambition: to create the most beautiful cars in the world. Guests will be able to judge for themselves whether that dream came true: in the cloisters, together with the new Pagani Utopia, two historic models will be on display – the Zonda C12 (1999) and the Huayra Coupé (2011) – to tell the story of a brand that will soon be celebrating its 25th anniversary.

The musical accompaniment to the exhibition is an interesting symphonic work written by the Milan Conservatory starting from the compositions for piano of the young Horacio Pagani, which is now the soundtrack of the new Pagani Utopia.

Milan, 13 September 2022 – Italy’s National Science & Technology Museum in central Milan is the venue for the official debut of the new Pagani Hypercar, the vehicle that will write the third chapter in the brand’s history, with the title: Pagani Utopia. In the splendid setting of the Sala del Cenacolo refectory hall, surrounded by original drawings by Leonardo da Vinci, the Modena-based atelier’s latest creation designed by Horacio Pagani embodies a visionary utopian idea of motoring, an unconventional concept romantically detached from the contemporary meaning of automobile. And it does so in the purest Pagani spirit, where the guiding element underpinning the company’s cars has always been Leonardo’s principle of Art and Science.

No better location could have been chosen to present the new arrival: Milan, the cosmopolitan city that was home to the artist, and the Museum that houses the Leonardo Galleries, the world’s largest permanent exhibition on Leonardo da Vinci – engineer, humanist and scholar of nature.

“At the entrance to the Museum, the visitor is welcomed by a phrase with a profound significance: Scienza è Cultura – Science is Culture. The expression represents the very essence of the Museum as a place dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci and, like the artist himself, condenses the interrelations between different but complementary branches of knowledge, which, together, help us understand reality. This dialogue between art, science and technology is a distinguishing feature of the Museum’s identity. Furthermore, the discovery and invention that never cease to surprise us are combined with the fundamental ability to design and build, thus giving concrete value to human ingenuity,” says Fiorenzo Galli, General Manager of the National Science & Technology Museum.

Enhancing the ties between the design of Pagani Hypercars and Leonardo da Vinci is an exceptional loan from the Biblioteca Ambrosiana, which, for the presentation of the new car, has granted permission for six original drawings of Leonardo’s studies on air, to leave its vaults on a temporary basis for the exhibition “The shape of air: from Leonardo to Pagani Utopia”.

Curated by Pagani Automobili and Pietro C. Marani, a leading expert on Leonardo da Vinci and author of numerous books about the Tuscan artist, the exhibition offers visitors the opportunity for dual exploration. On one hand, the astonishing genius of a man with the ability – six centuries ago – to represent even the invisible, displayed in a collection of leaves from the Codex Atlanticus on the study of air and its applications; on the other, the thinking that led designer Horacio Pagani and his team to conceive the Utopia project.  A binary vision of form and function.

“The presentation of our new car in the extraordinary setting of the National Science & Technology Museum in Milan has a special significance,” says Horacio Pagani. “Leonardo was very creative here in Milan, where he enjoyed a wonderful period. He has been a huge influence in my life since I was a boy, he is the inspiration for the fundamental concepts of Art and Science that guide our work. So to be in the museum that bears his name and to have his original drawings next to our car is a truly indescribable emotion for me.”

Visitors will be able to trace the genesis of the Pagani Utopia project on a series of special panels: from the sources of inspiration to the first sketches of the car, the colour palette and the materials used, condensed in a three-dimensional moodboard. The creative route reaches its culmination in the Sala del Cenacolo for a close-up look at the new Pagani Hypercar. From the outside, a body with soft, elegant lines built in hi-tech composite materials; inside, the powerful heart of the Pagani V12 engine.

Providing the ideal frame for the new Pagani Utopia are the six original Da Vinci drawings selected by Marani. Six works that highlight how the artist was able to represent the invisible, to depict “the existence of nothingness”, that infinite interstitial extension that surrounds all bodies, in contact with the air. Together with water, air is one of the four elements (including earth and fire) that most intrigued Leonardo, whose movements and manifestations he strove to portray.

“A thread links Leonardo’s observations and his insights into aerodynamics with the creations of Horacio Pagani,” comments Pietro C. Marani. “It’s as if the designer had finally given concrete shape to what Leonardo simply intuited about the way the air ‘forges’ and sculpts forms, which you can see, for example, in the two drawings of fortresses in the exhibition.” 

The exhibizion is enhanced with a section entitled “Story of a Dream”, the adventure of the young Horacio Pagani who came to Modena from Argentina with an ambition: to create the most beautiful cars in the world. Guests will be able to judge for themselves whether that dream came true: in the cloisters, together with the new Pagani Utopia, two historic models will be on display – the Zonda C12 (1999) and the Huayra Coupé (2011) – to tell the story of a brand that will soon be celebrating its 25th anniversary.

The musical accompaniment to the exhibition is an interesting symphonic work written by the Milan Conservatory starting from the compositions for piano of the young Horacio Pagani, which is now the soundtrack of the new Pagani Utopia.

Sunshine, Superdeportivos sublimes y números récord para Beaulieu Supercar Weekend 2022

El glorioso sol de verano y más de 1000 superdeportivos durante todo el fin de semana hicieron  del fin de semana de superdeportivos de Beaulieu el  mejor y más grande hasta ahora, ya que más de 20 000 asistentes asistieron al espectáculo repleto de dos días el 6 y  7 de agosto  .

Se exhibió una selección excepcional de máquinas de alto rendimiento en los terrenos del  Museo Nacional del Motor , mientras las familias y los fanáticos de los superdeportivos experimentaron las imágenes y los sonidos de algunos de los autos más impresionantes del mundo. Con exhibiciones de alto octanaje y acción impresionante, así como exhibiciones especiales y puestos comerciales, hubo algo para que disfrutara cada miembro de la familia.

Siempre en el corazón del espectáculo, las muy esperadas carreras de demostración regresaron para el deleite de los espectadores, con tres carreras cada día para ver todo tipo de superdeportivos que se ponían a prueba a lo largo de Chestnut Avenue en Beaulieu. Desde Lamborghini Superleggera, Nissan GTR, Ferrari 812 Superfast y Aston Martin DB9, hasta Ginetta G33, Audi R8, BMW i8, Lotus Exige 430 Cup, Rolls-Royce Wraith y más, el chirrido de los neumáticos y el rugido de los motores fue un verdadero placer de ver.

Otro punto culminante imperdible fue el sonido de superdeportivo diario, ya que una amplia variedad de autos de alto rendimiento se estacionaron en la Arena y se aceleraron para descubrir qué motor sonaba mejor. Desde Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Porsches y Mustangs, hasta un impresionante corredor de Fórmula 2, estos increíbles autos fueron aclamados por la multitud amante de los autos.

Había mucho que ver en el recinto ferial. Ariel Motor Company trajo consigo una selección de sus extraordinarias máquinas ligeras de alto rendimiento, con la Atom, la todoterreno Nomad y la moto Ace. Celebrando la legendaria marca italiana hubo una exhibición con un Ferrari F40, F50, Daytona y LaFerrari, junto con una línea de superdeportivos e hiperdeportivos Ferrari contemporáneos.

Los fanáticos de McLaren quedaron asombrados con una selección de ejemplos de edición limitada en exhibición, incluido un legendario McLaren F1, un híbrido Artura y P1, junto con, solo el domingo, un McLaren Senna y MSO 1. Mientras que un par de Jaguar XJ220 y un E-type clásico fue un verdadero placer para la multitud.

Sunshine, sublime supercars and record numbers for Beaulieu Supercar Weekend 2022

Glorious summer sunshine and over 1,000 supercars across the weekend made Beaulieu’s Supercar Weekend the biggest and best yet, as over 20,000 show-goers came for the packed two-day show on 6th and 7th August.

An exceptional selection of high-performance machines was on show in the grounds of the National Motor Museum, as families and supercar fans alike experienced the sights and sounds of some of the world’s most impressive cars. With high-octane displays and impressive action, as well as special displays and trade stands, there was something for every member of the family to enjoy.

Always at the heart of the show, the greatly anticipated demonstration runs returned to the delight of spectators, with three runs each day seeing all manner of supercars being put through their paces along Beaulieu’s Chestnut Avenue. From the Lamborghini Superleggera, Nissan GTR, Ferrari 812 Superfast and Aston Martin DB9, to the Ginetta G33, Audi R8, BMW i8, Lotus Exige 430 Cup, Rolls-Royce Wraith and more, the squeal of tyres and the roar of engines was a real treat to watch.

Another must-see highlight was the daily supercar sound-off, as a wide variety high performance cars were parked up on the Arena and revved to discover which engine sounded best. From Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Porsches and Mustangs, to an impressive Formula 2 racer, these amazing cars were cheered on by the car-loving crowd.

There was a lot to see across the showground. Ariel Motor Company brought along a selection of their extraordinary lightweight high-performance machines, with the Atom, the off-road Nomad and the Ace motorbike. Celebrating the legendary Italian brand was a display featuring a Ferrari F40, F50, Daytona and LaFerrari, along with a line-up of contemporary Ferrari supercars and hypercars.

McLaren fans were in awe of a selection of limited-edition examples on display, including a legendary McLaren F1, hybrid Artura and P1, along with, for the Sunday only, a McLaren Senna and MSO 1. While a pairing of a Jaguar XJ220 and a classic E-type was a real crowd-pleaser.

Toyota’s Supra was well represented by classic and modern-day examples of the impressive machine, along with the stunning 2000GT. Nearby, the GT40 Enthusiasts Club was showing a crowd-pleasing selection of its members’ cars, while the Honda NSX Owners Club put together a strong display.

There were some real automotive treasures to be found over in the event fields, as supercar and performance car owners parked up their pride and joy in the paddock. A Noble M12 GTO-3R, Holden Monaro, a selection of Audi R8s and Nissan GT-Rs, a classic Marcos Mantula and even a pair of Deloreans – one a perfect replica of the Back to the Future car – were joined by a line-up by Lamborghini Club UK, which included a Miura S, Urraco, Diablo, Hurracan EVO, and Aventador LP 700-4.

Throughout the weekend, the lawns of Palace House became home to a prestigious display of Aston Martins through the ages. From the classic DB4, DB5 and DB6, to the Vantage, DBS Volante, DB9, V12 Vantage, DB11, Virage and Zagato Shooting Break, there was something for every Aston fan, while inside the National Motor Museum, Bond’s own DB5 could be enjoyed in the exhibitionBond in Motion – No Time To Die exhibition.

Throughout the weekend, Southampton University Formula Student Team were on their stand talking to showgoers about the racing car that they had designed and built.
