JEWELER’S

BEYOND THE LIGHT

AN INITIATIVE JOURNEY TO THE HEART OF ANCIENT EGYPT

This year, Valérie Messika explores the fascinating and mysterious allure of ancient Egypt. She presents a collection of solar and powerful high jewelry: Beyond the Light, an incandescent shower of gold and diamonds, a promise of eternal radiance. The Parisian Maison dreams of a unique and mystical journey. A magical odyssey where passion, audacity and excellence make up a fascinating and majestic collection of art without equal.

The artistic director perfectly combines her inspirations and her know-how. Through a purity of graphic shapes and lines, an imperial look and exceptional stones, Valérie Messika conducts a subtly tinged retro-futurist symphony of Egypt and its hypnotic mythology. Unique and innovative sets in which diamonds are transformed piece by piece result in a vibrant and mystical jewelery collection.

AKH-BA-KA

THE ODYSSEY OF AN EXCEPTIONAL DIAMOND

The Maison of Messika is writing a new chapter in its history with an extraordinary 33-carat diamond, an extraordinary stone that illuminates the centerpiece of the 2022 High Jewelery collection . Valérie Messika dares to take on an unexpected challenge by creating Akh-Ba-Ka, a set with a design inherently inspired by ancient Egyptian mythology and style, conceived in diamonds and white gold. The Heroic Diamonds featured in the game are 15 rare gems cut from the same 110-carat rough diamond.

In ancient Egyptian mythology, KA symbolizes vital energy and BA represents transformation, from flight to the afterlife. From the union of these forces springs AKH, the transfiguration of a person towards the light. Therefore Akh-Ba-Ka is transcendence, a fascinating epic of a diamond in the rough, as well as a story of transmission, family and unique know-how.

THE RENAISSANCE OF AN EXTRAORDINARY ROUGH STONE

The 110-carat diamond is a bold venture that began at the Lucara mine in Botswana.

The mapping of the modular composition is followed by the moment of metamorphosis of this 110-carat rough gem into 15 cut diamonds. A meticulous effort, the precision of the work is inspired by the very nature of the rough diamond, which dictates what shapes it should take. The devotion and experience of the diamond dealer have joined with the bold instinct of the designer to bring this 110-carat rough diamond back to life in an incredible and unique high jewelery set that marks a milestone in the history of Messika Maison.

A UNIQUE MASTERY FOR AN EXCEPTIONAL NECKLACE

A true masterpiece within the ensemble, the necklace features 2,550 diamonds, totaling 71.49 carats. Its contemporary yet progressive design reinterprets the mythical Egyptian winged scarab through an ingenious combination of diamonds and faceted white gold. At the center of this extraordinary necklace, the 33-carat diamond is inserted through a subtle set of pendants. The strength of this gem comes from its extraordinary properties: classified D for its color and FI for its clarity. Therefore, this special stone is of a very rare purity. Its incomparable radiance makes it almost incandescent.

To bring out the best in a 33-carat diamond requires vision and know-how backed by exceptional craftsmanship. The creation of Akh-Ba-Ka required over 1,000 man hours, four to five full-time jewelers over 6 months using 800 diamond paves to set the 33-carat diamond. For this adventure in design, the House has multiplied the challenges by designing a transformable piece. The structure that cradles the 33-carat stone can be detached from the necklace to become a brooch. Another challenge more brilliantly taken up by master jewelers.

Girard-Perregaux – Tourbillon with three flying bridges -Aston Martin Edition

  • New Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges – Aston Martin Edition celebrates the shared passions of the two luxury brands
  • This is the first timepiece to be offered after Girard-Perregaux was announced as Official Watch Partner of Aston Martin in February
  • World premiere – black calf leather strap featuring Girard-Perregaux’s exclusive Rubber Alloy
  • Just 18 Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges – Aston Martin Edition will be made

La Chaux-de-Fonds – Switzerland: The first timepiece borne of the recently announced partnership between Girard-Perregaux and Aston Martin has been revealed today. The Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges – Aston Martin Edition unites the watchmaking expertise of Girard-Perregaux with Aston Martin’s unique knowledge of luxury and performance.

Both brands demonstrate a passion for refined craftsmanship and have been working together, sharing their understanding of design, materials and technology. This latest model celebrates the iconic Three Bridges pocket watch from the 19th century in a decidedly contemporary way, down to the smallest details, including the strap. The latter is a world premiere, presented in black calf leather and featuring Rubber Alloy, an innovative rubber insert injected with white gold. The design of the strap is intended to evoke thoughts of Aston Martin racing cars of the past.

Upholding Girard-Perregaux tradition, this model skilfully plays with proportions and shapes much to the delight of aesthetes. The 44 millimetre case of the Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges – Aston Martin Edition is formed of Grade 5 titanium, a strong, hypoallergenic alloy selected by Aston Martin for its
lightweight properties. It is suffused with black DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon), bestowing the watch with a stealthy appearance. Interestingly, titanium ore was discovered in Great Britain, the home of Aston Martin, back in 1791 by an English clergyman, William Gregor, in the same year Girard-Perregaux was founded.

A sapphire crystal ‘box’ is positioned front of house, as well as to the rear, coaxing light to illuminate the case interior, thereby augmenting readability. The movement eschews a mainplate, sitting between both panes of sapphire crystal and seemingly floating in mid-air. Three bridges, an iconic signature of Girard-Perregaux, span the dial and are formed of titanium with black PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) treatment and polished angles. The design endows the timepiece with an airy appearance, affording breathtaking views of movement components ordinarily hidden from view. While Girard-Perregaux has a long history of making the invisible visible, in this instance it has ventured off-piste, creating a watch whose movement appears to levitate within the case. This is achieved by paring back the movement, causing the mainplate to seemingly disappear, thereby creating the illusion of the movement flying within the case. It was this particular characteristic that led to the term ‘Flying Bridges’.

The cage of the tourbillon, positioned in the lower portion of the dial, is ‘lyre-shaped’, a characteristic found on all the company’s tourbillons dating back to the 19th century. A blued hand affixed to the cage imparts the running seconds. The tourbillon cage, measuring a mere 10mm in diameter, is composed of 79 components which collectively weigh only 0.25 grams. This remarkably low figure helps mitigate energy consumption.

The barrel, positioned at 12 o’clock, is openworked, affording partial views of the mainspring. A white gold micro-rotor, positioned beneath the barrel, energises the mainspring and, unlike most automatic watches, it grants unobstructed views of the movement. The car company’s name is engraved on the vertical flank of the micro-rotor and is filled with white luminescent treatment which appears blue in restricted light. Likewise, the indexes and hands are also treated with white luminescent treatment and, once again, emit a blue glow in dim light.

Patrick Pruniaux, CEO of Girard-Perregaux, said, “We are delighted to partner with Aston Martin, entrusting their team with arguably our most iconic timepiece, delivering a fresh perspective on Haute Horlogerie. Rarely do we work with others to reinterpret the Three Bridges, however, on this occasion, we have made an exception, mindful of Aston Martin’s prowess for design.

“When viewing the design of an Aston Martin, you will note the firm’s distinctive front grille, first seen on the DB Mark III of the late 50s. Likewise, the scoops and side strakes found on the company’s modern-day models are functional elements, intended to improve airflow while enriching the overall appearance of each car.”

“At Girard-Perregaux we share a similar philosophy. For example, when the Maison released the now-legendary Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges in 1867, it transformed three functional elements into attractive aesthetic features and demonstrated an approach that we continue to employ today. Finally, this latest partnership provides a fascinating chapter in Girard-Perregaux’s 230-year history.”Marek Reichman, Aston Martin Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer adds: ‘The greatest of the challenges we faced with the design of this new timepiece were those of scale, as you can imagine. We had to consider lines and proportion on a far smaller scale than we are used to in the realm of automotive design. That said, good design is good design, whether it is a watch or a car, the principles remain the same. I’m delighted with the finished watch and congratulate everyone who worked on this project as this collaboration has produced a timepiece of great beauty.

The Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges – Aston Martin Edition, a limited edition of 18 pieces, is immediately available worldwide in all authorised Girard-Perregaux retailers.

Catalogue Essay

Phillips is extremely honored and thrilled to present the very first Patek Philippe Nautilus ref. 5711/1A-018 with a stunning, Tiffany Blue® lacquer dial. It is, without a doubt, amongst the most exciting, exclusive, and coveted examples of a Nautilus ever offered.

Announced to the public just days ago, this limited series Nautilus celebrates the 170-year alliance between Patek Philippe and Tiffany & Co. that remains one of the longest and most enduring relationships in all of watchmaking. A total of 170 timepieces will be produced and available exclusively through Tiffany locations in New York, Beverly Hills, and San Francisco – with the exception of this very watch. The present lot is therefore the first timepiece to be sold, and will be available for immediate delivery to the winning bidder.

The Nautilus reference 5711 is the modern iteration of the first luxury sports wristwatch by Patek Philippe, first launched in 1976 as the reference 3700. Premiering in 2006, the reference 5711 updated the Nautilus for modern times with new innovations, such as an exhibition caseback, and an in-house, self-winding movement with center seconds.

Selected by Tiffany’s founder, Charles Lewis Tiffany for the cover of its annual Blue Book published beginning in 1845, the dial’s “Tiffany Blue” color is immediately recognizable for its distinctive shade and vibrancy. Tiffany Blue is now registered as a color trademark by Tiffany & Co., standardized as a private custom color by Pantone as “1837 Blue” – with the number marking the year of Tiffany’s founding. Not only featuring a Tiffany Blue-colored dial for the first time ever, the dial is also double stamped with the exclusive “Tiffany & Co.” signature at 6 o’clock paired with the Patek Philippe logo at 12 o’clock – both in black print. The luminous, baton hour markers and hands are in blackened 18K white gold, perfectly matching the printing, while providing outstanding legibility against the dial’s light blue lacquered surface.

PATEK PHILIPPE X TIFFANY & CO. NAUTILUS WATCH

PATEK PHILIPPE X TIFFANY & CO. NAUTILUS WATCH

Soon to be retired in 2022, this last version of the reference 5711 is fitted with the self-winding caliber 26-330 S C. Featuring a stop-seconds mechanism permitting time to be set with one-second accuracy, this state-of-the-art movement is visible through a sapphire-crystal caseback, inscribed “170th Anniversary 1851-2021 Tiffany & Co. – Patek Philippe”.

Accordingly, the watch pays tribute to the historic, 170-year shared vision and relationship that links Patek Philippe with the United States. Soon after Patek Philippe (1839) and Tiffany & Co. (1837) were founded, in 1851, the two companies forged an agreement that made Tiffany & Co. the first official partner for Patek Philippe timepieces in the U.S. In 1876, the two companies signed a new agreement appointing Tiffany & Co. as the general representative for the U.S. “who safeguards the interests of Patek Philippe & Cie. as if they
were its own interests”. At the same time, Patek Phillipe pledged to safeguard Tiffany & Co.’s interests as evidenced by a large sign “Agents for Tiffany & Co., New York” at Patek Philippe’s historic headquarters in Geneva. On the premises of the same Patek Philippe Salons in Geneva, there is further proof of this enduring relationship: a large steel vault formerly owned by Tiffany & Co. and decorated by an American eagle sporting two flags.

During the early 1900s, Tiffany & Co. supported key relationships between Patek Philippe and major American collectors, including Henry Graves Junior, for whom the manufacture crafted an extensive range of complicated watches. In the 21st century, Patek Philippe created several limited editions for Tiffany & Co., many of which commemorate important dates and featuring double-stamped dials for both brands, including the ref. 5150 Annual Calendar launched in 2001, the ref. 4987 Gondolo launched in 2009, and the ref. 5396G-012 in 2012. This last reference commemorated the fifth anniversary of the Patek Philippe Boutique at Tiffany & Co, which opened in 2008 and was the manufacture’s first boutique in the U.S.

Today, Tiffany & Co. remains the world’s only retailer whose name appears on a Patek Philippe dial, making any Tiffany-signed timepiece extremely sought after. Throughout the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries, much has changed, but the relationship between Tiffany & Co. and Patek Philippe has only grown. The present lot, offered in factory new condition, is a rare and stunning limited series Nautilus exemplifying the strength of their long-lasting partnership, and is certain to delight any watch enthusiast.

One hundred percent of proceeds from the sale of this watch will benefit The Nature Conservancy (TNC). Founded in the U.S. in 1951, TNC is a global environmental nonprofit working to create a world where people and nature can thrive. Its mission is to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends and shape a brighter future for people and our planet. To date, TNC has protected more than 119 million acres of land and 5000 river miles worldwide, with the past support of Tiffany & Co. and The Tiffany & Co. Foundation. With conservation programs in more than 70 countries around the world, their programs are dedicated to food and water sustainability, protecting land and water, deploying solutions for climate change, and building healthy cities.
