Reflejando el núcleo de sustentabilidad que está en el corazón de la asociación junto con un propósito conjunto de innovación, el prototipo de The Macallan Horizon fusiona artesanía tradicional, materiales reciclados y un diseño horizontal exclusivo. Creado tras un extenso desarrollo conjunto entre Bentley Motors y The Macallan, el prototipo encapsula la ambición conjunta de construir un futuro sostenible a partir de la rica herencia de ambas marcas.

En homenaje a los aclamados Six Pillars de The Macallan, las piedras angulares de la marca que dan cuenta de sus distintivos whiskies de malta única, The Macallan Horizon incorpora seis materiales únicos reciclados, reutilizados o de origen ético que son parte integral de The Macallan y Bentley Motors.

Una armonía de seis materiales sostenibles clave

El recipiente prototipo que se ha elaborado conjuntamente es diferente a cualquier botella de whisky en la historia. El diseño único desafía la estética vertical tradicional de una botella de whisky y refleja la trayectoria horizontal de un automóvil, empujando los límites y el arte de lo posible. En consecuencia, la embarcación se asienta horizontalmente en una cuna especialmente diseñada y no tiene una base permanente.

En el centro del diseño se encuentra una botella de vidrio hecha a mano con un extraordinario giro de 180 grados, que representa el dominio del espacio y el tiempo logrado por The Macallan y Bentley Motors al crear el prototipo.

(Crewe and Speyside, 22 August 2022) Bentley Motors and The Macallan have today revealed the ground-breaking design of The Macallan Horizon – the first limited edition single malt whisky being created by the brand collaboration.

Reflecting the sustainability core that’s at the heart of the partnership together with a joint purpose of innovation, the prototype of The Macallan Horizon fuses traditional craftsmanship, recycled materials and an exclusive horizontal design. Created following extensive joint development between Bentley Motors and The Macallan, the prototype encapsulates a joint ambition of building a sustainable future from the rich heritage of both brands.

In homage to The Macallan’s acclaimed Six Pillars – the foundation stones of the brand that account for its distinctive single malt whiskies – The Macallan Horizon incorporates six unique upcycled, repurposed or ethically sourced materials which are integral to The Macallan and Bentley Motors.

A Harmony of Six Key Sustainable Materials

The prototype vessel that has been jointly crafted is unlike any bottle of whisky in history. The unique design defies the traditional vertical aesthetic of a whisky bottle and reflects the horizontal trajectory of a car, pushing the boundaries and the art of the possible. Accordingly, the vessel sits horizontally in a purpose-build cradle, and has no standing base.

At the centre of the design is a hand-made glass bottle with an extraordinary 180-degree twist, representing the mastery of space and time achieved by The Macallan and Bentley Motors in creating the prototype.

The vessel is then surrounded by an intricately twisted 3D structure crafted in a suite of beautiful, sustainable materials. The arms of the structure are crafted in:

  • Recycled copper from the disused, curiously small spirit stills which were located within The Macallan’s former distillery
  • Aluminium recovered from the production of the Continental GT, Flying Spur and Bentayga at Bentley’s home in Crewe, England
  • Recycled wood from both brands
  • The world’s lowest CO2 leather, locally-sourced in Scotland, and also used in the highly exclusive Bentley Mulliner Batur grand tourer unveiled yesterday

The final component will be the extraordinary single malt whisky being crafted for the release, which will also tell its own story of recycling and sustainability.

Si bien el líquido de color castaño oscuro tiene una suavidad suave, de acuerdo con el sabor característico de The Macallan, la complejidad de su perfil ofrece una variedad de sabores. Hay un rico y dulce ahumado, atribuible a la turba utilizada al maltear la cebada y al quemar los alambiques durante este período de tiempo. La nota ahumada es sutil pero inconfundible, complementada con roble antiguo.

Este single malt oscuro y bruñido se aloja en una jarra de vidrio soplado a mano, acunado por tres manos de bronce creadas por la escultora escocesa Saskia Robinson y con tres impresiones de huellas dactilares individuales de las manos que lo sostienen en alto. Las tres manos pasan un guiño implícito a las décadas que transcurrieron durante la maduración del whisky.

Una mano conmemora a los trabajadores de la destilería de 1940 que elaboraron el espíritu en tiempos difíciles. Otro es la mano del ex presidente de The Macallan, Allan Shiach, cuyo abuelo dirigía la empresa cuando este licor se envió por primera vez a su barrica. El tercero es el de Master Whisky Maker, Kirsteen Campbell, quien seleccionó cuidadosamente la barrica especial utilizada para crear The Reach y decidió que ahora era el momento de lanzar este exquisito whisky.

Marek Reichman, has often spoken about the concept of the ‘Golden Ratio’ – the mathematical ratio found in nature that creates aesthetically pleasing compositions -, which sits at the heart of the design of every Aston Martin. Absolute beauty can be created when you achieve a perfect relationship between each proportion of the car.

Reichman explains: “Proportionality defines every precise detail of designing an Aston Martin. We are constantly striving to achieve the Golden Ratio; the optimal of proportions.  And it is this force which guides the creation of absolute beauty. To achieve this, we must combine our skill, passion and experience. Coming together with Ron just brings a whole new perspective on this and is hugely inspiring and enlightening. This whisky perfectly and harmoniously brings us together to create a beautiful, yet powerful equilibrium.”

For Bowmore, proportions define character and shape flavour combinations; from cask selection and age to blending. Ron Welsh, Master Blender, Bowmore, explains, “For the first time with this whisky, we have adopted the Golden Ratio to inspire each of the elements bringing their own unique flavours and selecting the optimal casks to forge the desired character, taking inspiration from Marek and his team.  What seems totally contrasting is, in fact, perfectly balanced and proportionate. Working with Marek has given me a new lens from which to explore whisky making.  This whisky serves as a celebration of our unified knowledge and experience; our shared passions, values and ideas.”

Taking inspiration from an engineered approach, this whisky incorporates the divine proportion of 61.8% formed from a base of 21 year old Bowmore matured in first fill Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry casks. The remaining parts are made up of exact ratios of each other, in line with the Golden Ratio theory, and include exceptionally aged Bowmore matured for over 35 years.

For this single malt, a powerful and complex yet sweet warming, the creators seems, on the face, to have created absolute contrast but in reality, they have captured perfect balance and proportion. With a clear nod to Aston Martin in the very creation of this Bowmore whisky, it exudes a sophistication and complexity which is truly considered yet promises a thrilling taste experience.

En 2020, los hermanos Roca abrieron Casa Cacao, un hotel y fábrica de chocolate en el centro de Girona, España, la misma ciudad que su restaurante de tres estrellas Michelin El Celler de Can Roca. Dirigida por el pastelero chef Jordi Roca, Casa Cacaoconsta de 15 habitaciones de hotel, un taller de chocolate, una tienda de chocolate y una fábrica de chocolate.

La Whisky Maker de Macallan, Polly Logan, viajó a Girona para visitar Casa Cacao y se sumergió en el mundo del chocolate, explorando su proceso de elaboración del chocolate y aprendiendo sobre los perfiles de sabor distintivos.

Para crear el primer whisky de edición limitada en una nueva serie de lanzamientos anuales, The Macallan Whisky Maker Polly Logan se embarcó en un viaje único a Girona, España, donde se sumergió en el mundo del chocolate, explorando el proceso de elaboración del chocolate y descubriendo el distintivo Perfiles de sabor en Casa Cacao.

Polly trabajó con Jordi Roca, dueño de la famosa boutique y hotel de chocolates Casa Cacao y el más joven de los aclamados hermanos Roca. Como parte de la exploración, también pasó tiempo con el maestro chocolatero de Casa Cacao, Damien Allsop.

Un subproducto en el proceso de elaboración del chocolate, estas cáscaras se habrían enviado al vertedero o se habrían destruido, pero ahora han renacido con un propósito renovado.

CRAFTED BY TIME.

In its much anticipated first release of the Yamazaki 55, the House of  Suntory pays tribute to the passage of time. It was in Showa 38 (1963)  that Kotobukiya was renamed Suntory after Keizo Saji succeeded his father, founder Shinjiro Torii as the House’s Second Generation  Master Blender. Keizo was charged to bring his father’s dream to life,  creating not only the quality liquid gold but a quintessentially Japanese experience and lifestyle that rooted Suntory Whisky as the people’s choice.

Today, the House of Suntory is not only regarded as one of the most awarded distillers but as a House that has consistently introduced  Japanese Whisky as a cultural experience to the world.

Keizo Saji and Shinjiro Torii

TOUCHED BY THE HAND OF SHINJIRO TORII,  YAMAZAKI 55 REACHES OUT ACROSS TIME.

A spiritual blend highlighting the Mizunara cask whisky distilled in 1960 under the supervision of founder Shinjiro Torii and the White Oak cask whisky distilled in 1964. Each matured, amber drop reveals  a complex and mystical Yamazaki-ness the world has yet to discover.

Yamazaki 55 is the House of Suntory’s tribute to the passage of time.

THE HOUSE OF SUNTORY’S ART OF AGING

In the world of whisky, we are often led to believe that age is the defining criteria of quality. That the more aged the whisky, the more precious it is. The House of Suntory has consistently challenged this convention because like anything else, the truth is not so simple. Fifth Generation Chief Blender Shinji Fukuyo demonstrated this belief with the launch of Yamazaki Distiller’s  Reserve in 2014 that changed perception of no age statements,  highlighting the young bloomers – the fruity and exuberant malt  whiskies as “ young talents ”, receiving worldly acclaim.

The House of Suntory has always believed that like people, each  malt whisky has its own narrative. Each whisky celebrating its own  peak regardless of age.

There are both young and late bloomers.
With the Yamazaki 55, Fukuyo faced an ironic challenge confronting the complexity of working with rare old whiskies. When he acknowledged imperfections in the casks of 1964, the challenge was  to enhance the potential of these late bloomers, to unveil a Yamazaki-ness not known before.

Fukuyo worked closely at hand with Shingo Torii, Third Generation  Master Blender, to find the right creative alchemy and master the signature art of blending to properly reveal the particular depth,  complexity and wisdom that is Yamazaki 55. What Fukuyo respected throughout this process was a combination of the passage of time and what the Japanese refer to as Wabisabi – the imperfections that make up perfection.

‘‘ Very old Scotch Whiskies gave me this impression of them being perfect Greek sculptures with  beautiful toned beauty. Instantly impressive as a piece of art. But the Yamazaki 55 is more like an old Buddhist statue. Calm and mysterious.  It takes time to take in its inner beauty with the smell of Japanese incense and stripped old wood,  like the Toshodaiji Temple in Nara. ’’

Deep amber distinctive of Mizunara casks.

NOSE
A robust aroma redolent of sandal wood.  A sweet, mature bouquet like well-ripened fruit.

PALATE
A soft, smooth first sip that blossoms in the mouth with flavor.
A mixture of sweet and slightly bitter, followed by a woody note
from the Mizunara cask.

FINISH
Slightly bitter, a fragrance like scented wood and a hint of smokiness.
A sweet, rich, lingering finish.

No solo raro, sino único. Esta es la primera malta irlandesa que se envejece en una barrica de roble irlandés.

Este es un momento monumental para nuestra destilería, y en la historia del whisky irlandés, embotellado.

EL PRIMER MUNDO SUCEDE SOLO UNA VEZ

El líquido en sí es sublime, y cada uno de los tres barriles y los dos líquidos predecesores se suman a su sabor en la medida y el orden correctos.

La lujosa dulzura del barril Bourbon de roble americano muy carbonizado es seguido por los sabores audaces y redondos del roble español tostado, los barriles de Oloroso, con la última palabra animada para las especias vírgenes de roble irlandés.

Todo esto es claramente discernible en orden cronológico a través de una exquisita suavidad.
